Laws of gravity

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 7:16 am

It came across my mind today, and I wasnt able to find any similar threads when browsing through the forum, so I ask you guys.

Is it confirmed that the laws of gravity will affect the gameplay, example:

I am running with a shield and a sword in my hand, suddenly an enemy appears in front of me, so instead of stopping and starting to fight, are we able to bash them so they get knocked out from theyre feet on the ground?!

Second example:

You throw an axe towards an enemy but he is a bit further away then ussual so instead of hitting him where you aimed, the axe slightly starts to lose its speed and hits him below the aiming point, you aimed for the head but it hits the enemy in mid-chest.

What are your opinions about this, and if ANYONE knows anything about this please say so.

Thanks, Mraz...

Well, we know we can't throw Axes, but Arrows will do this, they did in Oblivion, why shouldn't they now?

And it has been indicated that there is 'shield-bashing'. Whether this works as you described is unknown.

yeah we won't be throwing any axes but if you ran into people it would be nice to see some affect from it

Ok, so no axes flying around, but you get what I mean I am running away from a huge dragon, and crowd of terrified people is running away and you need to escape somewhere out in the open so you bash through the crowd with knocking everyone on theyre knees, something similar to Assassin's creed.

I think there is no confirmation about not being able to throw axes (or other weapons).

Like I said, we don't know if this is possible yet. There may be shield bashing, where you hold down whichever button you have assigned your shield to and bash your opponent with it.

I agree if you aim higher it should have higher % to knocking it on ground and if faster / heavier arrow it should apply too well at least I think like that and like all ways of %

Elphaba can defy gravity . . .

It would be neat for what the OP stated, but if not, I won't complain. Were there rumours or something of shield bashing?

Edit: Bad grammar.

The first example would mostly be an example of Newton′s laws of motion and I do think it may be possible considering they′ve (can someone tell me how to spell this without getting a red underline under the ′ve ?) got a dragon shout for pushing people, so why not let us bump into people too ? As for the 2nd example we had arrows and throw-able objects slowly dropping to the ground in Oblivion so I expect to see a return of this in Skyrim.

I′m not so sure if we′ve be able to knock someone off the feet by bashing them while running though.

I think it said something in the February GI about it?

Awww...man, I would really like to know will it be possible to run and knock someone out while doing so, in cost of stamina(fatigue) or something...

yea I like the idea that you could throw any object in to enemy even fork on the table tho you wouldn't do much damage but still :P

EDIT:

why cost of fatigue if you bash in to them
why not cost of fatigue to get your body in to speed as in RL: so you loose fatigue to get your body in to run and in runing you loose only 90% less than when you start getting your body in to speed

That first example is of inertia, not gravity.

Another thing that bothered me about gravity in oblivion was that it had no accelaration, rather it was just a constant speed.

That's not quite true, it just reached it's max speed quickly and the max speed was very low.

Velocity, weapon construction, point of aim will effect point of impact, yes.

I hope this gets implemented and then maybe in the next fallout we can see effective external ballistics come into play.

That's kinda weird not to have. Would the alternative be that the arrow/axe flew indefinetly?

BTW I'd say that would be awesome perk for spellarrrows. The infinite range arrows, I mean

Haha confirmed not possible in Oblivion.

Heh, maybe Daenlin svcked at arrowmaking. ;) Maybe with that perk the arrow flew its max distance and then abruptly drops to the ground.

It wouldnt be an arrow flying indefinetly, but it would be pretty much until it hits it's target.
Whatever the target may be in the end, such as a wall.
