I can't believe I did this, but I've deleted my level 53 Nord that I poured over 150 hours in. :wallbash:

I have three other characters - a level 82 Imperial (280 hours), a level 32 Dunmer (34 hours) and a level 27 Breton (27 hours).

This... was pretty devastating, to be honest. Ulburf was perhaps my most interesting character, followed closely by Devarri (the Dunmer), and especially after I butchered Barnum by making him into a god-of-everything.

So I ask you lot, have you ever made a monumental mistake like I have? And if so, what did you do? I've been playing my other characters a little but that incident has soured my taste for gaming right now, so I've just spent more time judging people on the forums.

And while we're at is, anyone got a good idea for a Nord warrior?

R.I.P. Ulburf, your death was the product of human stupidity.

I'm afraid I don't understand. How could you have deleted a character by accident? Was there only one save for the character?

I used to always accidentaly delete my characters until someone posted a way to name your saves. the post mentioned doing , * characters name* when naming your character and then the save would have your characters name.
e.g. , Finna
the save would then be called Finna

A long time ago when I still played on the 360 I accidentally overwrote a save file and was set back about 3 days (10-15hrs)

I took a break after that because I didn't feel like doing everything over again.

On PC there is a way to have separate save folders too. Skyrim.ini, [General] section
[General]sLocalSavePath=Saves\
Just put whatever behind saves and all saves will be made into that folder until you change it or the launcher recreates the ini.

if on the PC, wouldn't the deleted save be in your trash bin still, unless you cleared it?

What is that trick that Garrus was talking about?

Oh yes, My saves on PC are all in different folders, categorized by the character's names. Makes it easy to just copy the saves I want to use (assuming I'm switching from one char to the next), and paste them in the main save folder.

Never rely on just one save. Even on console it's best to have several saves. If something's not right with one of them (like let's say you've lost an important item) you can now go back to a previous save and start from when you still had this item.

Console command
save "save name"
It creates a save with what ever name you want.

The one I was talking about is one I did on Xbox for about 1 year. you just name your character like this (I'll use my character as an example)-

, Finna

But for some reason it doesn't work on PC though.

So you literally name your character with a comma before their name, and that works? But wouldn't the comma be in letters and other in-game things with your name on it?

Oh. That i didn't know. Very handy.

I still don't understand why BGS hasn't made save folders possible trough the game, that ini setting has existed since Oblivion, at least :stare:

That happened to me I think....two or three times?

On my first playthrough, I had a Nord at level 36 I believe (and at the time that was pretty damn high for me), and I accidentally deleted him.

On my second playthrough, I had a Redguard Warrior at level 45...he was overwritten :(

On my third (this was the worst), I had a level 53 Redguard warrior; I was trying to redo what my previous character did. He was deleted due to corrupt save :( it was like killing my own child D;

Right now I have a level 58 Dunmer who has done almost everything in Skyrim - only guilds he hasn't completed is the Dawnguard and Bards. If he was deleted, I think I'd go into deep depression.

Bob's looking pretty sixy.

But like I said in the edited post, won't the comma be in letters and things with the character's name written on it?

I once deleted all of my save games for Skyrim. The entire folder. I was having problems with steam so I did a complete re-install of Steam, all my games, and to be thorough I deleted my savegames folder too. I was certain I had backed up that folder on a DVD. But apparently I was having a senior moment because I never could find the disk I backed my savegame folder to. So I started a new Character. After I got everything working again it turned out the problem was on Steam's end and they had resolved it while I was re-installing everything.

I recently blew up a save on accident.

It was a level 40 Dunmer named DudeBro ( I was too lazy at the time of character creation, ok? ). Really interesting and fun RP, probably my favorite character so far.

But eventually I blew up the save with really sloppy management of script heavy mods and what not. So eventually the world fell apart. :(

I made one. My first character ever, An Imperial about level 50. I had just gotten Dawnguard, enjoying it I try to read the new Elder Scrolls like I did when I got the Dragon scroll

But it failed. Little did I know that the gate would close behind me when I tried to read them, swarmed by butterflies. So he was stuck forever.

I've never deleted a character luckily. Whenever I save I go into third-person and face the camera toward my camera. When over I overwrite a save I make absolutely sure the save I'm overwriting is the same as the character I'm currently playing. Also, I make copies of my save and stick them in a backup folder.

I've done this so much that it isn't even a big shock anymore. Although, when it happens to me I always turn it into a great RP for my next character. Your character "died" somewhere in skyrim (or even tamriel) to someone or something. If you wanted to go so far, you could RP an unknown heir to his father who died.

Just my ideas.

This is why I urge people to make at least four saves for a character. I keep nine just in case.

Had a really high level character.

The file got deleted by accident.

Had to go back like ten levels.
