Layers and customization for clothing and armour.

Post » Thu Sep 23, 2010 10:03 pm

One thing that I think would be really nice, and would help make your characters look more unique/different is if there was a simple "layered" clothing/armour system in the game.

Basically where you could layer clothing over/under armour or vice versa. This can allow you to really mix/match things and find a unique look that you like.

you could have tight fitting clothes which could be worn under armour and things, which can be seen in places where the armour doesn't cover. Then you can have looser clothing that could be layered over that armour, such as Tabbards, cloaks, etc.

This way if you play characters like say, a warrior that has to wear armour, you can still have a more unique appearance then looking like every other warrior with that plate armour. Throw on a tabbard with a coat of arms/colouring that you like, maybe wear a cloak on the back of it or not. This allows flexiability and customization that is not that hard to do and can offer some different choices as far as finding an appearance you like for your character.

Only if you can't enchant clothing or else it will cause imbalance issues like in Morrowind.

NOOOO! It's hard enough to make outfits that don't clip with the current setups. Layered would be too much effort for us mod-makers.

I prefer the customization. I mean like changing colors, removing/replacing some parts, adding unique parts. Or may be adding some accesories. Should be nice

Changing clothing colours and trim is definitely a must if customisation is a focus of the game at all.

I mean, Fable manages it...

Just don't give the other clothing/armor independent vectors and they won't clip each other. Hard to clip each other while your moving in unison.

I hope I can wear a pair of pants, a shirt, a belt, a full set of armor, and a robe/cloak on top of that.

Voted yes, but it sounds anything but simple.

*Now if they designed the game to have top & bottom to armor and clothes... that might mean they could add a node for Khajiit (say), and the suit's legs could be different (like was done with the Pipboy appearing on PC worn armor).

**I'm aware that Skyrim isn't the same engine.

To stay true to the roots of Fallout 1 and 2 where there were only 2 slots for armor. Helmet and suit.

No the the last bit.

NO! this sounds like an improvement to the game with no obvious drawbacks, and we can't very well have that.

In Fallout that was called a perk. In TES it would (in this case) be a reasonable evolution of the game.

fair enough. I still say that this thread is unnecessary, though.

I wouldn't say evolution since it was in morrowind.
