Leadtek Winfast 8800GTX in SLI

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:39 am

Hey all,

hope everyone is well. Ok, first of all I would like to inform you that this post is a continuation of an earlier converstaion I had a few days ago where a few helpful members replied. Now, the reason that I am posting a new one (sorry if confusing and not doing it in the same one) is because I can't seem to find the earlier post and I am not being emailed or told if I have had a reply.

Not sure if there is a way to do this and still getting my head round this forum. Even had signing in issues today :(

I have to periodically keep signing in to the forum and checking if I've had a reply by looking for my post. Surely this isn't the way to do it?

Many people will post after me and i'd like to know if there's a way I can navigate to a previous post from the main control panel so I don't have to start a new topic everytime or find the previous one I did.

Now, with regard to the game itself my question is will adding a second Leadtek Winfast 8800GTX to my comp benefit me if I use an SLI configuration?

I think I have some space to fit a second one and I've seen a few floating around on Ebay recently at dirt cheap prices. Before you say, yes I know its an old card my mates still give me stick, espec my mate who has the top ATI card to date.

And, I know its only DX10 compatible so I won't get DX11 features but I will get enhanced graphics right but with 1536Mb dedicated graphics memory.

Basically, old computer and trying to keep her going without shelling out on new parts (scruge I am indeed).

So here goes and laugh whilst you curse at same time with your super spec pc:

Intel Core 2 Duo e6700 @ 2.67Ghz
3.25GB Ram (windows XP - going into win 7 very soon so will have 4GB Ram)
FOXCONN P9657AA Mobo
1 x Leadtek Winfast P8800GTX
320GB HDD

So, yeah basically how much would I benefit....if at all?

Thanks guys as always for continued support :)

Why bother when you can pick a GTX460 for £110?

i know nothing about desktop cards so ill let the experts reply to that one.
i do know 2 is always better than 1 though.
i know maplins were selling 9800GT cards which is the next card up for £99 a while ago (wish laptop cards were this price).
also dont forget you will need 64bit windows 7 to get the full use of the ram. 32bit only shows and uses 3.1gb

Well if you're looking for a card around that price, buy a GTX460 1Gb. Trust me. http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-nvidia/geforce-gtx-460-pci-e-%28288-336-cores%29

Don't bother with Maplin, they are expensive and just no good for graphics cards.

Don't go for the 768Mb version.

Thanks for your replies guys. What do you think of this card:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nvidia-GTX550Ti-192-Bit-Ready-Graphics/dp/B004S5CCP4/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_3

Opinions please and whether it would fit my Mobo and would work with my CPU. Also, is it any better than the 460GTX that was posted in link on Scan.co.uk site? Price wise not a mssive amount of difference and would be willing to go up to say £115 at a push.

Oh, by the way, thanks for telling me about how to view latest posts seen it now. How though do I know if I've had a reply? Just keep checking??

Thanks

No, don't got for 450/550, they're cut down. GTX460/560 are the best price and performance for this class of cards.

Cheers mate.

You obviously know what your talking about.

Is the card on the scan site (Part No: LN37603) the one you are referring to? It's just that there are quite a few here to choose from and some numbers to look at. Confused dot com indeed :)

This one mate will do you http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-evga-gtx-460-superclocked-3800mhz-gddr5-gpu-763mhz-shader-clock-1526mhz-336-cores-2x-dl-dvi-i-mi

Just make sure your PSU is up to it, because you need two PCI-E power connectors(cards come with adaptors anyway), anything above a 450W PSU will do.

Nice one.

By the way, I looked at your rig specs. Very nice I must say and I see why your keen to recommend the GTX460 :)

Also, multiplayer stats is good too. I don't really play it due to the fact it runs sloppy and this cheating/hacking lark means I would get pasted online as I'm noob. Even against a highly skilled player I get served so can you imagine a cheater? Nah, not my cup of tea.

It would be interesting to see on a chart where my card stacks up against the GTX460. Bet mine isn't even in the top 50, maybe even 100. I will look into that as I'm a tad curious.

Anyway, back on point. 2 power supplies eh. I take it that it's a dual slot configuration then. I would have to check my case to see that I have the space and I need 2 free PCI-E slots? Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Thanks

Yep, thanks. :) You just need 1 PCI-E slot and 2 PCI-E power cables but as I said, the card comes with an adaptor.

Apparently my card is listed as No 32 in best ranked cards although it may be lower as list was compiled 6 months ago. Oh well not as bad as I thought :)

My PSU is 650W so I'm ok in that department. Would that card fit my Mobo. Would have to check that one out I'm sure it would fit. Think it's ATX. Incidentally, do you play Crysis 2 in 3D? if so whats it like?

Don't use 3D no, but the card can run Crysis 2 maxed out at 1920x1080. You cannot beat a GTX460 for a midrange card, not just because I have one. :)

Well, I will take your word for it then :)

I don't think I could run at that resolution. Currently, I run at 1680 x 1050. Monitor is NEC Multisync 2070WNX. Don't know if that means anything to you. Comp is like 5 years old and monitor is from purchased.

Haven't upgraded a single thing hence my initial question about GPU. To get 1920x1080 I'd need a better monitor right? Or, would the GTX460 give me that option?

Can I pick your brain with something else. Mobo is Foxconn P9657AA-8KS2H. I'm not sure of this but I think the max CPU I could go to as its socket 775 LGA is core 2 extreme. Could you please confirm this.

Me thinks that getting that card but with the core 2 duo that I currently have might hold back the cards full potential.

Thanks.
