Leak smells like a publicity stunt to me....

So, some people saying that they can't play past the third level and EA and Crytek actually made a public announcement about the leak, which would just encourage more people to download it as. To me it sounds like a publicity stunt for more sales and a clever stunt it is. Your views?

How is this increasing sales anyway? Why not just release a demo?

Your logic baffles me

I don't really know how hard it would be to just change the key. If people weren't making such a fuss over that detail I would just assume changing the key at this stage wouldn't be very hard at all.

A bit illogic...

It actually could be, if they have finshed making Crysis 2 and putting it on DVD's, them DVD would be useless because they are using a differnt Masterkey.

Yet we know the version leaked is nowhere near finished.

Anyways, no company would do this as a publicity stunt, however they can definitely use this to their advantage. The PC community as a whole seems very much on crytek's side and most are actually more hyped about the game than ever after seeing youtube footage! Combine this with the beginning of the marketing campaign and add crysis 2 to steam for pre-order and you can build upon the new found awareness of crysis 2 :D

After all the **** that Crytek has pulled against PC and PS3 players, I don't know what to think anymore. I kind of wonder if this is their way of getting out of putting out a PC version. Like burning down the building to collect the insurance. From what I've seen of the leaked copy so far, it doesn't look that great. It just looks like another CE2 game.

It's running in medium/high dx9 on a compressed youtube video, OF COURSE it won't look stunning. But anyone with enough brainpower to extrapolate compared to crysis 1 knows it'll look amazing.

Watching youtube videos or looking at screenshots of an unfinished product does not equate to a bad game.

Although this could be a marketing strategy, I don't think it will really affect Crysis 2 sales on PC, after all, Crysis 2 sold Over 3 Million Copies on PC, just being a singleplayer game with a somewhat good unsupported Multiplayer, Crysis 2 has a awesome singleplayer with a Excellent Multiplayer mode.

Again, with leak or no leak people would still pirate the game, but with the leak, everyone who would have pirated the game is playing the leaked version and possibly missing some cool features of the final build, so they end up quitting and don't pirate the final build when it's released, or they get excited and pre-order the game

I believe since the leak, the pre-order amount has increased, both from pirates and non-pirates.

However it's difficult to believe it can be a marketing strategy since instead they could have just released a working demo of the first level and MP with 2 maps

I also think that this is somekind of an marketing trick, otherwise they wouldn't advertise this on gamesas.

I was thinking the same... why they advertise this themselves? i mean cmon it's on EA site, this website. What the hell? i dont know what to think now. Someone said maybe they did this on purpose to have a strong reason for no Crysis 3 for PC (if there will be a 3rd part).

It's not an 'advertisemant', it's a formal response to an issue that needed responding to. If Crytek/EA had said nothing by now then there would be dozens of threads asking "why no comment?".

As for the rest and why this thread is being locked, i refer you to: http://www.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=7292&p=117628#p117628
