Lean?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:56 am

I've searched, to no avail, for topics regarding leaning. I've noted it in a few videos and was wondering if it is included in the final copy of the game?

Brink looks amazing, I'd be happy if it was included or not. Just curious if a definitive yes or no has been issued.

To the best of my knowledge yes. I have heard nothing of it being removed.

No definitive answer that I know of. The last time I saw someone use it was in the container city gameplays, a year ago.

There's been no demonstrations of it in the recent videos, but there's no word I've found on it disappearing either.

I doubt it's going to be a big game-chenger whether it's there or not though - it's neat, but with the high-mobility combat, I think it will see very limited use if it's still in.

Hoping lean is not implemented, I feel it's like prone, and would be a detriment to a good flow for gameplay.
Tactics that are more so beneficial to campers, and defensive players are not OK in my books.

NP its a nifty feature and it should be in. Still trying to remember if I have seen it in any recent gameplay vids. Might have to go rewatch them.

Yes. I don't know were the source is but I remember Paul Wedgwood talking about how when you aim with ironsights the right and left on the d-pad turn into lean controls until you get out of ironsights again. Of course the buttons you use for leaning are completely re-mappable thanks to SplashDamage. :foodndrink:

Hmm, I wonder if its like some other games and its disabled in consoles because I haven't seen leaning in any videos other than the ones posted a year ago of Container City as well.

They would have no reason to remove it. I like the lean, it will probably help a lot for us Lights. Then again, it will help everyone who uses it effectively, I highly doubt they removed it though. But you never know...

If it is still there I wonder how it will be implemented. I've listed a few pros and cons to a quick/slow lean function.

Quick lean

Pros
-Maintains fast paced environment
-Gives ability and feeling of "peeking" around corners
-With a proper learning curve, can be used very effectively

Cons
-Encourages shooting instead of helping
-(obvious) provides a more difficult target to shoot

Slow lean

Pros
-Forces players to move entire bodies around corners instead of hiding behind terrain
-Ideal for watching a particular choke point or objective

Cons
-Encourages camping
-Decreases function usage

Like I previously state, I will be happy if it is implemented or not. Brink will be a great game and lean is a function that we will simply have to account for. Just my 2 cents.

Is lean on consoles too? I know traditionally it's only on PC, but I saw people doing it while using a 360 controller, but I don't know if they were using PC + controller or just using a 360.

most games that have LEAN are only implemented for PC. this is what i've noticed! there are more keys on a keyboard and q/e are used primarily for Leaning around corners. it's very accessible, easy to use, and very tactical.
i dunno if it's in the game, but i'm PRETTY sure consoles won't have a lean feature, there's just not enough buttons for it... FAIL.

if you do pull left trigger, then push the dpad it seems too hard to use imo. your hand will be in a tough position and overall not worth it. if that is how it would be for consoles i could see people not using it at all because of its difficulty.

So who failed?

EDIT: I can easily hold L1 or L2 with a finger and reach the d-pad with a thumb. I also know where my "edit" button is so I don't have to double-post. Well done on Wraithing me though)

You had to be ADS and you pushed the left and right d-pad button in order to lean on the 360. I don't have a PS3 nor have I ever used the controller for it, so I can't comment there, but it can't be excluded if the 360 has it.

Only leaning I could find was, like Napalm said, back in http://www.gametrailers.com/video/container-city-brink/59709 at 2:09 when Paul was leaning around the corner right after placing a charge at the door.
*I say Paul because he kept saying "I" thru the whole thing*
But like the others already said, no reason to take it out and no mention of it being taken out so I would assume that its still in the game. Just funny that the peeps in the videos dont ever use it... wonder why?

The Medal of Honor campaign had it. And it was a pain to use. i just couldnt aim accurately while using it. i had to move my fingers into positions not meant for the controller and it really annoyed me. i ended up not playing the campaign for that reason. i watched my friend play it and got the story line from it and that was enough for me.

Agree with this. There's something in videogames called defender's advantage which is what actually makes the game challenging. Rolling through a defense really easily is not fun, nor does it create balanced gameplay. Camping in this game will be focused around an objective, not a little corner with a shotgun. That should be good enough for the majority of gamers, and it certainly is good enough for me.

In paintball this method is called "snapshooting" and in paintball, it is one of the most useful skills you can learn because it makes you very hard to hit. So it could be useful if you are holding back a few people while waiting for a medic to buff you.
This could be very effective with grenades as well... Just pop out and toss it, go back in and wait for the points.
A very versatile feature if you ask me, and if it is a one hit kill situation, it could make it very intense

i think he was implying defensive players are campers... and having this lean feature would promote camping, which isnt a good thing.
