Learn Dova

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:48 am

I don't know it may just be me, and I am just wondering how other people think about this but, who else wouldn't mind
learning the language for themselves. Personally I think it would be awesome if a friend of mine came up to me and we
just started talking in this language no one has ever heard. It would also be pretty sweet to understand what some
of the creatures say in the game when spoken. What is everbody elses opinion or thoughts to this?

Well it's not a "real" language, but more of it will be expanded on in the game. By real language, I mean you probably couldn't fill a full dictionary with it nor could you use it as a spoken language in the real world.

Dova won't be a complete language that would be really usable in a real world.
Not to count time you should put to learn a fictional language , when you could learn some another language from real world. That's just unbelievably geeky.

If I decide I need to learn another language it will be a real world one with real world application. Some things are just to much "dedication" to the game. But I think I'll pick up a world or two in the in game language for giggles :)

This is true at the moment. I just have a feeling in time somebody will be able to understand more on this "not real language" and be able to
add more to it. But it would still be awesome to know some words to make even the smallest sentence.

My friend's brother had a font he used in AIM that was elvish. The devs already worked it out so you will learn it.

I'm all for learning Dova, I already speak three languages to a point, I think Dova would be incredibly easy compared to a real world language to learn.

There are many constructed fictional languages that are spoken by a large group of interested/fans of a particular franchise.

Many people speak Sindarin (Elvish alá LOTR) I heard they even at one time, offered classes at Oxford that taught it.

The bible have been translated into Klingon (Stark Trek)

After the sucess of Avatar, an obsessed friend of mine is trying to learn the Na'vi language.

Plus you have Esperanto which is a constructed language.

So I can't see it strange that some TES fans go all the way and teach themselves to speak Dova.

Those people are crazy too. :P

Learning real world languages expands your horizons, but fictional languages just narrows them down in my opinion.
It's skill that can only be used with people who also learned how to speak Klingon, so they're all just like you.

Learning a language that doesn't exist feels a bit to me like wanting to escape into that universe.
I'm all for people have vivid imaginations, but going so far as a group of fans locking themselves up in their own fantasy world is a bit sad.

But that's just how I feel about it, doesn't mean it's the same for others.

People may find learning dova to be nerdy or like someone said, "escaping into that universe" but what is so wrong
with having a little fun? I'm just thinking of it as a little hobby that I myself would have fun in doing so.

You could also have fun learning a real language with practical use. :P

Learn German or something, more practical.

Or Klingon or Elfish from LOTR, those are fully developed if i'm not mistaken, at least Klingon is, and you will find more people who you could converse with in these languages, if you find the right places.
