Learning The Creation Kit.... A Barrage of Errors?

Post » Mon Apr 06, 2015 4:31 pm

Well I was going to try and be calm about this but I forgot I couldn't post links and when I did it removed everything I wrote! So here we go again! My beautiful paragraph gone! So expect a TL;DR version now!
Am a Source Hammer apprentice (to a friend who is a master of it) looking to take a break and try something else for a bit. Loves Skyrim. Found The Creation Kit. Loved the tutorials on it. Followed the first two tutorials but encountered strange errors. Assumed it was just because I had mods on even though I set the Data to only the main Skyrim file and none of the mods. Brushed the errors off because of that. Tried to make a test house. Got really far and was having a lot of fun. Took a break and saved. Came back next day and loaded up the save; horribly gazed upon the a barrage of errors that led to huge chunks of the house vanishing and overall destruction of the file. Could not recover the file at all; had to trash it. Decided to do some tests. Noticed many errors coming up before I even chose something in the Data section to load. Even more when I chose just the basic Skryim master file. Cannot continue having fun in The Creation Kit with these errors. Need help!
Errors (in no particular order as I forgot to keep track of the stupid order; hopefully that doesn't matter) (Also had to write all these errors out because The Creation Kit wouldn't let me copy/paste the text in the errors!):

I tried google searching and all but I couldn't find the location of the Warnings File or else I would have just posted the information on that too. I also discovered that, through some research, many of these errors can be ignored but I have trouble believing that after what happened to my awesome house I was working on. I followed the official tutorials very well, even creating the same thing in the first two videos (like the small Nordic room) so I had a good idea of how to make a layout by then. This is why I have doubts that I screwed up something in my layout to cause it to glitch and be destroyed. I was very careful and I made sure I selected things that were static and under things such as walls, floors, roofs, etc. I'm also not a complete newbie to this stuff because I did come from Hammer, which although is very different, does have a lot of similarities too and I've made maps in Hammer before. So I'm not jumping into this editor without some knowledge on how these types of editors work.

I also find it hard to believe that I can ignore all these errors when none of them showed up in any of the tutorials. Granted those tutorials are kind of old but still.

I was going to post some pictures and the remains of my house (hence the word remains; it got wrecked by those errors) but I couldn't figure out how to get the "My Media" thing working and you know.... No links.

The errors messages that pop up when you load a plugin or master file are "normal", just click on "yes to all" and ignore them. They are not responsible either for the poor state of your plugin; this will have to be investigated.

You'll be able to post links in your messages once you have posted 10 comments. Just chat here and it'll come fast and you'll be able to publish images related to your problem. You'll have to host these image on a third party site though; I use http://imgur.com/; easy and reliable.

It's possible that I could have saved something incorrectly. The tutorials, at least in the ones I saw (the first 2) didn't cover anything about saving. I'd imagine saving would come very early as it's very important. One thing that happened was that I had trouble saving it. I named the plugin, in both data and normal entry, HouseTest1. However, it wouldn't let me normally save it after I made changes. It forced me to save any changes I made into another plugin that I had to name HouseTest2. Same thing happened again and I ended up with HouseTest3. Upon further inspection the next day, HouseTest1 was empty of everything, HouseTest2 had a large portion of the house I'd made but it was missing the newest stuff, and HouseTest3 had the newest stuff I'd added (which mainly focused on a smithing/forging room) and a few parts of the main hall of the house (which I made first obviously) but they were rather glitchly and most of the main hall was missing.

I'm actually not mad because I'm well aware that I probably did something stupid. However, making mistakes is an important part of the learning process and that's probably why I'm not just raging over losing so much work. Of course, I want to prevent this from happening again.

I just don't want people to make fun of me for my mistakes. Everyone has to start somewhere. Even I did some really stupid stuff in Hammer before I finally got a good hang of it.
