This is wrong in my opinion. Let's just imagine for the sake of argument that the Forsworn weren't crazy Daedra worshipping murderers, if they wanted to live in Markarth, in their ancestral homes they would have to pay the Nords who stole them and in most cases would not be able to live in the actual building belonging to them. This is wrong. I don't think the Forsworn should really be left in charge of a city due to the fact they straight up murder travelers and have hargravens and all that, most of them should proably be imprisoned or executed for their crimes anyway.

On topic, Bretons by default. What exactly is there to like? Or dislike? Criminally underexplored

I'm torn between Bretons and Imperials... it's a feeling, nothing against their culture in the lore.

That's only true because they decided to make them just like imperials with funny accents. It's a shame they didn't diversify them more, either on Kirkbride's wacky themes or simply on Scandinavian culture. There could have been so much more unique about Skyrim rather than it being Oblivion North. That's mainstream commercialization for you.

Imperials. They're the only race I've never played.

Nords are basically vikings, which is a plus in my books.
Bretons have the whole merish blood thing, and feudal society.
Redguards sank a continent with swords.
Imperials are good at talking. Awesome...

The Forsworn are insane tribals. It's only right that Nords took Markarth.

And the Forsworn didn't build Markarth. They found it and they conquered it from whoever was living there before (Falmer, I assume). Then came in the Nords and repeated the same. Forsworn conquered it from the Nords, and then Nords conquered it back again.

The way Nords are just copied from Scandinavian Hurr Durr Viking culture is the very thing that annoys me. I don't know what Kirkbride had in his mind, but if it would have pushed Nords away from viking stereotypes, I'd have been glad.

Ancient Nord culture is just that. It has much unique mystique to it with the Dragon Cult, Dragon Priests and the Dragon War. Contemporary Nords - not very interesting.

Tough.

I'm not sure if you are agreeing or what. Basically to both of you, I don't see why in the world the Nords should just give up Markarth. They took it. If the forsworn want it, try taking it back. Would it be the right thing for the nords to do? Sure, but why would they want to?

Apparently a major complaint for Morrowind was that it was too other worldly, so they made Bloodmoon to be a more derivative setting. Since then they've relegated the weird and wonderful to the expansion packs and not the main games.

I'm agreeing that the Nords shouldn't give Markarth too the Forsworn, but simply because they are (mostly) deranged criminals. Not just because the Nords took it.

My opinions on this are perhaps shaped by Australia's history with 'Terra Nullius' laws, and I guess it isn't quite the same thing (seeing as the Forsworn didn't build the city).

Even if they weren't criminals I see no reason the Nords would just give away territory Just because the forsworn claim it as their own. Nords think they were created on Skyrim, so in their eyes they have the rightful claim.

Where the borders of Skyrim lies is kinda the issue there though, since the Reach have been in Skyrim the last 600 years or so. Before that it wasn't as far back, at least in my knowledge, as the Nordic Empire. And before that it was controlled by the Aldmer and stuff.

Since I usually play Dunmer (or other elves), I hate all human races equally. I'm not a racist, you know, but

is simply a proven fact. :tops:

As to the topic I'd say nords. They were my "favorite" human race since Morrowind, since they offer a good combination of offensive and defensive capabilities as a warrior. Redguards lack the defensive capabilities and the Bretons are still not as good at magic as the elves.

Imperials do not offer anything special at all. They are a force to be reckoned with on the scale of a legion, but individually, they are utterly average. I don't remember playing an imperial character at all, and I've played all TES games. Even lore-wise they are nothing special and their culture is just a weak attempt at mimicking parts of the elven or nordic culture.

The Reach was independent from Skyrim originally wasn't it? In any case I was thinking in a more philosophical sense of whether it actually is justified for the Nord's to have taken Markarth and keep it (which it is, seeing as the Forsworn in their current state couldn't govern their way out of a paper bag) rather than whether or not the Nords think they are justified.

I think the whole point of the Imperials in Morrowind was to be the jack of all trades race (from a gameplay perspective).

More reason why I say whoever can take it owns it.

I see. Personally I don't think it matters if it is justified or not.

But they aren't even Vikings. The Norse culture present is all very superficial. Actual Norse culture would be a lot more interesting.

I think this view is largely because the Reachmen are stereotypically evil, and because it is a medieval themed setting. Think of it this way, should a group of people have to live in abandoned old forts, with poor quality of life, no regular source of food, having to live hand to mouth just because years go another group of people were stronger?

Might doesn't equal right.

I'm not saying it is right. But in TES might is what rules. If they want it, take it.

By that logic we should give the Native Americans all of America, except the original 13 colonies or all of America and we go back to Europe.
