Leather Boots HELP!

Post » Fri Jun 04, 2010 11:11 am

I'm having problems with my Leather Boots (technically, they're classed as armor) as I want to change the stats so that it isn't Light Armor anymore.

Wearing them, my spell effectiveness level is only 95%, and this is because of the armor rating. Is there a way I can use the CS to change the settings so that I can wear these boots BUT NOT let them count towards armor?

Incidentally, for some reason Leather Boots in the construction set are not forund via Armor->Leather->Leather Boots, BUT ARE INSTEAD Armor->Thief->Leather Boots. Which is confusing.

Anyhow, please can you give me some advice! Thank you.

Just make a new clothing item name it Leather boots and use the NIf that the leather boots armor uses -- then place them in the game world and use them.

Step by step approach? I'm not sure how to get hold of Nifs! Thanks :P

1. Scroll down to the Clothing heading in the Object Window and click on it.

2. In the right hand section, right click and select New. You will see http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/1688/newboottutscreen.jpg.

3. In the Biped column (where it says Head, Hair, UpperBody, LowerBody, etc.) select Foot.

In order to do the rest of this, you will need to unpack the needed files. The files you need are under Meshes/Armor/Thief. You will also need these texture files: Textures/Menus/Icons/Armor/Thief.
The Oblivion Mod Manager has a BSA utility that can do this.

4. Under the Male and Female headings, you will see two buttons that say Add NIF File and one that says Add Icon Image. Click on the Biped Model button under Male (the top button) and go into your Armor folder. Find the Thief folder and open it. Open the M folder and double click on the boots.NIF listing.

5. Now click on the World Model button (the middle button) and do the same as step 4, but choose the boots_gnd.NIF this time.

6. Now click on the Icon Image button (the bottom button). Go into the Armor folder, open the Thief sub-folder, open the M sub-folder and double click on boots. That will get you the meshes and icon needed for a male character.

7. Click on the Biped Model button under Female (the top button) and go into your Armor folder. Find the Thief folder and open it. Open the F folder and double click on the boots.NIF listing. Now follow step six again to add the same menu icon used in the Male heading, click OK and you're done.

Now you just need to place the boots somewhere for your character to pick up.

Vyper, thanks. I will take your advice (still unsure how to ''unpack'' Nifs though, any tips as I haven't got OBMM as of yet, is there a way to do it manually?)

Also, I am asking you directly (because you clearly know your stuff!) this question: can you put your own mp3's in Oblivion? I heard someone say that they replaced Atmosphere1 with one of their Beatles tracks, how the heck did they do that?? Thanks

You're welcome. Unfortunately, there is no way to unpack a BSA manually (it would be like trying to open a 7z archive without 7-zip, or another program that could read it). You will need a BSA unpacker. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3311 is a good one. LHammonds has a great BSA Unpacking tutorial http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=168

Oh yes, i have a lot of added tracks. Open your Oblivion/Data folder and find the Music sub-folder. Inside it, you will find five more folders (Battle, Dungeon, Explore, Public & Special). You can replace any of the tracks in those, or add your own. The name of the track isn't important (except, perhaps, for the Special folder) because the game chooses tracks at random. I have tracks from Castlevania (great for dungeon and battle music), Legend of Zelda (for exploration) Metroid Prime (public and battle), Era (dugeons), David Arkenstone (dungeons, exploration & public) as well as several other sources. I have never renamed a track before adding it and haven't had any trouble with it.
