If I leave the map

Simple questionm, really, if I leave the map boundaries via Searchlight airport or what have you can I access Dry Wells and the Long 15 without having nuked them? Or do they show up as a seperate zone completely irrespective of the Mojave Wasteland, and the nuking triggers the entrance?
