Left click vs Right click

Post » Sat Oct 08, 2011 2:19 am

In Skyrim we can control our hands independently, so on the controller there is a button for each. On the PC, it would make sense to use the to mouse buttons respectively.

But:

Our main hand (aka the one with the weapon) is the right one, but we are used to trigger the main action with the left button (In both MW and OB attack was left click), so attacking with right click would feel weird. But switching the two mouse buttons wouldn't be intuitive either.

Was there any official word on that yet? It probably can be configured. What do you think will be the default? How would you like to control fighting with a mouse?

Can't you just equip your weapon in your left hand?

LMB for right hand for me, like 99% of the games out there.

It's like when you use a joystick the first time in your life, most people push the joystick away from their body if they want to go up rather than pull it back. After a little while you are completely used to it.

This. In Oblivion I used LMB for attack (right hand) and the RMB for block (left hand). Didn't make sense either, but it didn't bother me at all.

The thing is, we use the same finger for both the left mouse button on a mouse and the right trigger on a gamepad. Whichever finger we use for the right mouse button/left trigger would be considered secondary anyway.

Not if you want to use a shield.

Configurable, that's how I would like it xD

I'd like left hand with right mouse and right hand with left mouse, its what nearly everybody is used to.

I'll get used to it, I hope. I'll try both buttons for the main hand and see how it feels.

Well, since it's the main* input device, it's kind of important.

* yes, keyboard is also important, but I would put walking on the mouse wheel just to disagree with you ;-)

Well if you bundle all complaints people have of this game (or most other games), one would believe that Skyrim has to be the worst game that's even been created.

True this. I'm sure whatever comes up, we'll be able to deal with it fine. And personally, I'd rather not have control of both hands separately...that's not what I want to be worrying about when I play.

Why wouldn't using the mouse buttons be intuitive? Left hand on the keyboard controls all your body motions. Right hand controls your attacks. I don't really see the disconnect there. This isn't a Wii game where you are swinging your mouse around in the air.

Left button for left hand, right button for right hand. Sounds pretty intuitive to me.
