Left Hand Elves

I've always been curious about why the purported "left hand" elves of Yokuda were called that. I always just assumed that they were stereotyped as being left-handed by the Yokudan humans because the Yokudan men thought they were terrible swordsman (two left hands = svcking at sword dancing).

Today I had a random thought, maybe they're called Left Hand Elves because some pompous, ego/geocentric Altmer looked at a map and Yokuda is on the left-hand side. So, therefore, the inferior mer who dwelt there were simply and crassly called Left Hand Elves.

What are the current thoughts on this? Am I just ignorant and have missed the already deciphered meaning of the title?

Now that I've put my opinion down in words, I actually like both of my explanations.

I'm for the Altmer theory, makes it a lot more fun because the left-handed Elves built an empire that is greater then Septim's.

They held their weapons with their left hand…

I don't see how that excerpt applies to the Left Hand Elves... it's talking about Cyrus - and it sounds like he absorbed some sword techniques, Matrix-style. But, unless "ahzirr traajijazeri" is known as the Left Hand Elf fighting form....... please explain yourself.

As much as I like my Altmer naming theory, there is a flaw with it. As can be seen in the Meeting with Cyrus text: the Yokus call the Left Hand elves Left-Handers. So, it is pretty likely that they came up with the name, not the Altmer. And it does still sound like a derogatory name to me.

edit: grammar
