Left hander's?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:50 pm

I know it seems pointless but i would enjoy a left handed option to fight for bows and Swords i understand most people may not see why this matters to me but ive always wished in games to make my char as close to me as possible and playing left handed in game would make it much much easier to get immersed

I think that having dual wielding will fix that, as you can ( SHOULD ) be able to block with the hand u like or something

Being a left and always wanting a left handed option like in Unreal Tournament, I think I might default to righty as that is what I have come to be used to. we will see.

This. It STRONGLY looks like you will be able to be lefty if you want.

If you want to be a lefty, put a weapon in your left and and a shield in your right or whatever you want. Now that you can dual wield, you can be whatever your mind wants. I for one am ambidextrous and my character will be too.

Obviously you'll be able to do sword lefty, but i wonder if when you equip a bow if it'll just go into (standard) right handed mode, cause correct me if i'm wrong but i feel a left handed person would hold a two handed weapon (sword, axe, or hammer) differently, with the left hand on top or something.

well that wouldn't be too bad, but id be dissappointed if you draw the bow with your right hand no matter what.

It seems that you will get what you want, however dual wield doesn't mean that you'll be able to play a lefty character. The animation for drawing a bow is probably the biggest issue. We'll just have to see what they do, but I hope you get what you want.

Assuming they let you put a shield in your right hand. It wouldn't be shocking if shields were marked "off hand only", or something like that.

That said, I'd also like a decent lefty option.

For bows, you should put arrows in one hand and the bow in the other (of course the quiver would be on your back, but you grab arrows with the hand you equip arrows with). This would make it so a left-handed person can draw the bow with his left hand, and it kinda makes sense. I feel like if they don't do this, string will always be pulled back with the right hand.

There are no official word from them that we can put one-handed weapon in the left hand while not holding anything or holding a shield in the right.

I'm definitely sure that Todd said you can put whatever you want in whatever hand. "Dual wielding" happens to be doable because of that.

A quote from the article-
Bethesda’s solution is a new two-handed combat system that allows players to equip any weapon or spell to either one of their character’s free hands. This flexible platform opens up countless play styles – dual wielding, two-handed weapons, the classic sword and shield combo, ranged weapons, or even equipping two different spells. Switching between loadouts on the fly is made easier thanks to a new quick-select menu that allows you to “bookmark” all of your favorite spells, shouts, and weapons for easy access.

yeah, I always wondered why we haven′t seen any good fps with left/right hand option since Unreal

but as other stated, the dual wielding system seams to be a good way to playing as a lefty ^.^

I doubt that two handed things like Claymores and Bows will be able to held as if you were a left hander though.

If they have it like I'm thinking, you either select which hand to use when equipping something or you drag and drop whatever you want to use. If you wanted to wield a two-hander lefty style, select your left. I'm just speculating though.

I'll probably make my character a lefty, just in order to attack with left hand I press the left mouse button - makes it consistent.

Bows/2-handed weapons is the concern.

Well, I am worried somewhat about the "two-handed" weapons like swords and bows. For instance I am right handed, but I draw the string with my right hand and left hand on the bow. Or hold a sword with the left hand on the top of the hilt and hold it on my left side. Like shooting left in hockey or using a golf club left... In Morrowind they had the two-handers "right handed" and Oblivion "Left-handed". So hopefully they allow the two handers to be used in whatever handedness.
