Lefty issue

Post » Fri Sep 17, 2010 11:21 am

Does anyone know if the quick menu buttons can be changed to e.g. the keypad numbers? I'm left handed and it's not particularly convenient to have to let go of the mouse during combat to switch to a different spell or weapon via the number buttons. Since I use the arrow button for movement control it would be very convenient if I could use the keypad buttons for my quick menu.

You're on PC right, Phoss?

You could use http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Oblivion_Hotkey_Fix;69276 to map your numpad. Never tried it myself, so let us know if it works.

I'm on PC yeah. I might give that a go, I'm just having some stability issues and random crashes so I'm a little wary of adding more mods right now. Thanks though, I'll let you know if I try it.

I'm a lefty too, though I use computers right-handed(ly?) Personally, I think Bethesda should make the games compatible for left-handers as well, particularly by implementing left-handed combat. (Which will hopefully appear in UV6.)

You could use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34735. This mod allows you to map hotkeys to the num-pad amongst many other keys.

Yes - I think this is the one I read about, between the times when the Oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the Sons of Ariyas.

yes, she wants to be able to use quickslot spell keys close to the movement arrows, which for her are those left-right,etc arrows to the right of keyboard.

I'm a lefty here, too, with my mouse on the left-hand side of the keyboard...personally, I've never had trouble using the quickslot keys where they are. I always map the movement keys to the number pad, rather than WASD. (I do this with every game I play that has customizable bindings, actually. It's so much more comfortable for me; otherwise my hands are all cramped in together on one side of the keyboard.) So yeah, it's a small reach to go from movement to the quickslots, but I guess I'm just used to it--my inventory (I) / use (E) / auto-walk (Q) keys are all over on that side of the keyboard anyway. Have you tried taking your hand off the movement keys to hit the quickslot buttons, rather than off the mouse?

(Disclaimer: I also have a smaller-sized keyboard, due to my hands being small and my fingers being on the short side. :P So the reach isn't that far for me. If you've got a larger sized keyboard it might be problematic; I'm not sure.)
