Lefty PC Support

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:53 am

Being a lefty, whenever I get a new game I'm forced to remap every hotkey to fit my right hand, usually mirroring the controls. In Fallout 3, however, there were a handful of hotkeys that couldn't be changed (such as the buttons in the loot menu and some parts of hacking). Does anyone know if F:NV will be fully remappable? If not, I might just have to buy the xbox version.

Should probably learn to play with the normal controls. Im a lefty also and it is no problem. Computers really are a right handed field

Anyhoo, I imagine that the controls will be identical to Fallout 3

They make left-handed keyboards and mice. They cost no more than a regular keyboard and you can get them from places like Amazon. It might be worth it so that you can game on the PC in comfort without having to remap controls in every new game. It might even improve your general computer use.

I would say still get the PC version, as long as you can remap the important ones who cares about the bottoms in the loot menu.

I'm left handed myself and, I use the arrow keys for move, Return for V.A.T.S Right shift for jump and, so on.

If you go with the 360 you'll not get any mods so, maybe try a 360 controller.

While I only played Fallout 3 on the computer, with Morrowind and Oblivion which is like Fallout 3, or I should say Fallout 3 is like Oblivion, I was able to map all the keys I wanted on the Num Pad. So I am not too shure what you mean. What keys can't you remap?

Google for a keyboard remapper like SharpKeys. I saw a kb a few weeks ago somewhere that let you remap the keys any way you want. I don't know where I saw it but probably engadget or gizmodo.

Really? I'm lefty too. How many left handed people are there in this thread? I never really had a problem with computers. I learned righty so I've never really had that issue come up. Of course playing on console makes things simpler. Just saying.

Damn, this board is active.
I guess I'll look into some keyboard remappers to fix any screwed up hotkeys. If that doesn't work, I can always get my hands on a wired xbox controller and play it that way.

Left handed keyboard? (I'm just wondering why  )

Any mouse can have the left & right buttons switched in the Windows Control Panel. And any symmetrically shaped mouse will work just fine on the left side of the keyboard. The WASD keys can be mapped to the arrow keys or even the number jack (Both on the right side of the keyboard).

*What cannot be done, is to have the PC hold their gun in the left hand ~Unless they really want to show off and impress :tops:
(this would require almost double the animation sets; OR.. some pretty sharp assembly hacked into the engine).

I'm betting more than people think! My home computers are all set up in the proper left handed mode. I work on other peoples computers quite often and, have learned to work with my left arm tucked under my right arm to use the mouse with my arms crossed. Not to disturb there world! :violin:

I love when my friends come over and want to check something out on the interweb and, get so frustrated that things don't work as they expect.

The world was built backwards, right is just WRONG! :brokencomputer:

So that all the keys are reversed to be more comfortable for someone who is left-handed. Like the ACTUAL keys are all swapped. Arrow keys on the left, caps lock and the wsad keys on the right, etc. I don't know how much it would improve things, I just knew the option existed and threw it out there.

I'm one of the 90% of humanity that is fortunate enough to be in the majority so that everything is built around our "right handedness".

I'm a fellow Southpaw (lefty) for me a lefthanded keyboard would just mess me up now since I've used righthanded ones since the days of the Vic 20 & I use ambidextrous mice set for righthander but placed to the left of my KB.

for me Gamepads just don't work for me because my right hand doesn't work well enough for one

I know you can change the mouse to be left handed, but I never bothered. I don't think I can even do it if I wanted to. I am so use to using my left index finger using the left mouse button I don't think I can change now. "Teaching an old dog new tricks" as the saying goes.

The funny thing is, I always moved the mouse over to the left side of the key board to use it. Well that is not funny, but the funny thing is the rest of the 4 family members don't bother moving the mouse to the right side of the key board. The funnier thing is, I have my laptop for a year and half now so I haven't use my wifes computer, and the mouse is still on the left side. I can't belive that. LMFAO. :celebration:
