Legacy Controls for Skyrim

Post » Fri Dec 17, 2010 7:57 pm

I believe Legacy controls should be an alternative to the default controls.
Even though there is not too many gamers who use the Legacy stick layout, it would be really helpful if Bethesda could put this layout in for these gamers.
Anyone agree??

Yeah, do explain. I know Skyrim for PC will most likely support Xbox controllers, but I don't know what you mean by Legacy. If it's cool I say go for it, but I'm clueless :P

I think I know but I am not sure. Its kind of like southpaw playing. Their is a different layout and the buttons will do different things.

The controls mostly started off with the original games Perfect Dark and Golden Eye on the Nintendo 64.
Now a lot of first person games use this stick layout as an alternative choice, where the default stick layout is still of course an option.
Games such as Halo and Call of Duty use this option, and it really helps when going back from these games, that the Legacy players can still use this layout, and it not be as frustrating to get readjusted.

Left Thumbstick : Walks forward and backwards, but looks left and right.
Right Thumbstick: Looks up and down, but walks left and right.

Ugh, I played goldeneye for the first time in over 10 years a few weeks ago... Reminded me why I'm glad the control system has changed so much since then. I wouldn't mind it being included for console users who still like that system.

Anyway, I'll happily use my mouse.

Sounds weird. I kinda prefer the current layout. First person games have a stick for changing direction and a stick for walking and strafing, while third person games have essentially the same thing except with camera and character movement in general.

If you're playing on PC, there are programs you can get to modify the functionality of an Xbox controller. That may help.

Highly doubt they will spend the time on outdated control schemes just for a handful of people.

Most First person games use this alternative control along with southpaw.. Every Call of Duty, Crysis 2, Halo, and many more games use this.
Its not outdated at all and many people use it.. Im sure it just has not been brought up because it may not be a big deal, and i dont think it would be too hard for them to put it in the game with still a long release date.
Im not just speaking for me, but for the other players that use this.

That'd confuse the heck out of me but if it makes it more enjoyable for you, why not>. I'm always for being able to re-map controls.

I've tried to play games in this layout. I couldn't do it.

All for adding it though, couldn't hurt anything.

I know what it is, personally it drives me up a wall, but I have a friend who swares by it. Can't for the life of me understand, but he can't play any other way. At any rate, it wouldn't hurt anything to add it as an option...just please don't make it the default.

The stick layout you were saying, the "legacy" layout, wont work all that well for Skyrim because of the fact the back peddal isnt an option anymore in this game. You either have to face and fight or turn and run away and the usual button mashing you would do with this layout of controller will make you hate this game. They make the controls how they are for a reason, not because some people wont think there are other better ways to reconfigure it, but because its the best layout suited to learn and adapt to the game they created.

And i play Call of Duty black Ops alot, my firend comes over and always changes my controller layout to tactical, from my favored DEFAULT layout. And every time he does it and i try to play, i die 5 times before i figure out, " OHH the B button is melee now! stupid me." (how useless is that? lol)

Yeah well see, The Elder Scrolls originated on PCs. So, for TES legacy = Mouse and Keyboard. :P

Damn do we have to hold down the mouse button and swipe our mouse around like a moron trying to us MSPaint to fight again? :P

It makes no sense to add a legacy option for a game series that wasn't made for a legacy platform. Frankly if you can't adapt to using one stick for moving and one for aiming in the 12 years (count it, thats the number of years it has been since Sony released the Dualshock controller) since games started to feature it as mainstream controls you might want to see a neurologist because something is wrong. I can go back and play any old n64 shooter without a single problem, then go right back to MW2 or Borderlands.

Cant see how it effects button mashing...

Well, the OP wants "legacy" controls and that would be "legacy TES." :P

Of course, the OP wants some legacy that never appeared in TES, so I don't really know what they're on about.

How would it not work?? it changes no buttons. It is only the thumbsticks and im only talking about this for the 360 console, not PC. Everything is normal, i just adjust to it better.
Tactical is what i play on.. thats a button layout, completely different than a thumbstick layout. You are talking about something completely different.

Legacy controls wouldnt affect people that play on default.. just dont change your controls to Legacy.
Also yeah i can do it, i had to do it for Oblvion and Fallout, but having this option to change my controls wouldnt hurt anything :/
And the Legacy option is still used a lot and been out for longer than 12 years.

because people are used to just gliding around and going equally the same distance in all directions while attacking in one spot, if, for example, the back peddal is reduces as much as 50% or more it will make most peoples stradigies of just circling around while pressing A a ton of times not really work, especially if youre up against, say a mountain troll, or a dragon, as for making the left stick effect anything other than just the feet and the right stick controlling anything other than your view is kinda confusing honestly

HAHAHA!! Dude, I play legacy stick layout with inverted camera because I went to the bathroom at a friends house and he [censored] up my controls and wouldn't let me change my controls back, so I adapted... I'm usually able to adapt back though.
