Legendary Difficulty Is Stupid, There Is No Point!

Post » Wed Apr 24, 2013 6:06 pm

In terms of skills, I don't see the point of resetting your skills to 15 again just to level them up again, you are not actually making your character more powerful when they are weaker after you make it Legendary.

The worst thing of all is the difficulty, Bethesda did nothing to improve the semi-bad AI in the game, the only thing they did was make it almost impossible to kill some harder enemies. They added more hit points and increased their attack power but they did nothing to improve AI.

1. So you can increase in level beyond 81, and gain more perks and HP/MP/SP.

2. Yes, just like Master -> Expert -> Adept etc.

I love legendary difficulty.

Oh and the skill reset means-
more leveling
health
stamina
magicka

I have 4 characters over level 100(legit) and 1 alot higher(cheated).

Honestly, I don't see the point of it either. I have not bothered to download 1.9. Some people want to level beyond 81, I guess. Don't see the point of that myself.

Are you really gaining more perks by leveling up past 81? Afterall, if I give up my perks, but then begin leveling up again, and putting those perks back into said skill as it levels back up, did I really gain any new perks?

Even if I put them somewhere else, I didn't really gain perks, I just swapped them around.

Of course you gain perks. If you level up to 82, you now have 81 perks to distribute. If you level up to 83 you now have 82 perks to distribute. You may decide to "bank" those perks, but that is a different matter.

Don't forget the fact that you don't need to be on Legendary Difficulty to make your skills legendary.

I guess one main idea is that now you can take all the perks in your "character relevant skills" (ie. those that fit the role you are playing) without having to make use of skills that are "out of character" --- like a warrior wanting to get more perks by leveling up their Illusion skill.

But I do agree that there's very little need for more than about 55-60 perks, and that's about 8-9 skills at 100. So there's really only a need for these Legendary skills if you play characters that are strong in the majority of skills, and you want to take almost all perks in all or most of those skills.

Yea, but if I level up to 82, but undid 10 One Handed perks, won't the next 10 levels I gain just replace the perks I already had?

Sure, you may just put those 10 perks back into One-Handed as you get it back up to 100; but you'll still have that extra perk to use.

This ^^^^ is what I was wondering. Good to know. I have absolutely no interest in playing on the legendary difficulty level, but I thought I might try "legendarizing" a skill or three, just to see how it works.

example-
Smithing has 10 perks. reset smithing. get 10 points back. level smithing again. gain more levels and perks. put points back in smithing.
result- higher level. more M,H,S. extra perks points.

I agree. It seems like it was aimed at creating jack of all trades characters that are good at everything for people who want to get all the perks on one character. But that undercuts one of the arguments in favor of the perk system, which is that characters were not all the same at high level. It doesn't bother me that they introduced it but it is not something I will ever use. I wish they had focused on something that supported roleplay options more instead.

I don't even understand how to use the "legendary" skills. I don't even see how they can be "legendary" as they are reset to the lowest level and our character loses all the knowledge he had accumulated yet.

This thing, if I understand correctly, could be useful if we levelled a useless skill up to 100 and reset it so that we can carry on levelling up. But why would I put money in buying levels in a skill I don't want to use?

How is something that's optional stupid ? yeah I would of preferred improved AI but as there moving on that's never going to happen. In the absence of better AI then legendary is the next best thing and I think one off the best tweak's they have made to the game.

The entire concept is rather "meta", but if you want a character of insanely high level... have at it. My current character will have all of the perks they really want/need by 51. Shrug. Level-ups past that point are gravy, for the most part. More health, and a few more perks that may be nice to have but non-essential.

And it doesn't necessarily take money with trainers... look at Alteration or Alchemy, for example. The former can be maxed out in mere minutes of you go about it right. The latter can be maxed out in mere minutes also, if you know a couple of good leveling potion recipes and have good stocks of ingredients. Then you sell the potions and crank up Speech. Maxed out Speech already? Reset it. 2 birds with one stone, as they say.

There are lots of optional things that would have been better. Like, a toggle to turn off the compass or auto health regen or kill cams, or a bedroll and tent you could carry with you, or any number of ideas that have been posted on the forum over the past year to improve roleplay.

Yep I wouldn't disagree but that in itself doesn't make legendary stupid it just makes it one option that has been added when we would of preferred a few more.

Tried Legendary difficulty for like 10 seconds. Attacked a bear for hardly a tic, took one hit and died. Switched back to normal.

I don't think I've ever gone past level 50 something with a character. What's the point of becoming a powerful jack of all trades? No wonder people turn up the difficulty setting. Using only some skills (not necessary making a cliché character) introduces an element of strategy in the game and makes it more challenging and rewarding as well.

honestly the legendary difficulty only applies to consoles. PC players with overhauls like skyre + uncapper can just play on master and watch their skills hit 100+, and get HP at the same time!

so it sounds like anyone who isn't level 80 shouldn't set in "game settings" to Legendary?

That's true and I have characters that I rp and don't use certain skill trees e.g. smithing. I do though have a demi god character that I enjoy playing and legendary makes even that character fun to play.
