Legendary Edition upgrade on Steam

Post » Wed Sep 25, 2013 6:50 pm

the Legendary Edition of Skyrim on steam:

Id like to see an upgrade we can purchase for the Legendary Edition of Skyrim for those of us who own Skyrim base game. Meaning right now if a user purchases Legendary Edition who owns Skyrim they only get the DLC while the base game is not added to the account due to steams sales policy. Would people who dont own the legendary edition or if you didnt have the DLC would you purchase an upgrade to the Skyrim Legendary Edition if it had a discount removing the base game cost from the overall total for customers on steam who already own Skyrim?

People can currently buy the DLC separately but seeing that Legendary Edition tag, just feels good.

So, you are saying that a Beth team member suggested that you make a thread about how they can lose money?

Lose money? Did I explain the upgrade poorly? The discount for the upgrade only applies to people who own Skyrim, if they dont own skyrim they get no discount. On steam all games are saved on the users account, so when going to a store page it recognizes customers who own the game offering the legendary edition at a discount removing the base game cost adding it directly to the account. Steams weird that way. Games such as say Farcry 3 also offer this upgrade ability on steam but only for people who own the base game, buying DLC or upgrades to games a customer does not own is not allowed.

The Legendary Edition includes the Base game, meaning those of us who own the base game and buy legendary edition also pay for the base game but do not get the base game since its a product already owned:

Why not just buy them when a sale comes around?

Not at all. The Legendary edition is not anything special. It's just a GOTY with a fancy name. You don't get any extra content. Almost every person that previously had the base game, purchased the DLC content as it came out.

Exactly.

Otherwise, you do save $7 if you get the Legendary.

So you want discounted DLC and the word "legendary" in your library. I don't see the point, not to mention that Jesuis is right, Bethesda would lose money.

Just wait for the autumn sale.

I suspect this part is a typo.

Why would Bethesda ask an unknown person to come to the primarily gamer populated forums to ask about the possibility of something that wouldn't really gain anything beyond what a small discount?

The DLc separately isn't that much and yes, the legandary version is nothing special. Just GOTY with a different name.

edit: And while some other games do have such an upgrade, the DLC with those games isn't even on a par with that of Skyrims.

Can I ask why you start your request with the statement that someone from BGS suggested you post it. I mean, it's fine to ask for something or post about what you'd like to see offered, but please don't attribute things to the company, okay?

Nevermind, I edited the OP for clarity.

The cost of the base game is removed meaning bethesda does not lose money since noone would buy the same thing twice.

Selling the upgrade to Legendary edition, adds only the DLC to the users account for those who are unfamiliar with what steam is which is an online digital retailer of games for computers.

Legendary Edition on Steam is just shy of £30.

DLC together is about the same give or take a pound.

How is that going to work? Bethesda is going to lose money on DLC sales if there's a discount on the Legendary edition.

And please answer the questions regarding the first line of your first post.

the first line? that is what I was asked, so there ya go discuss away...

Bethesda has a long history of selling digital games on steam so would be well equipped to handle the pricing.

By who?

I very much doubt that someone from Bethesda asked you to post this.

edit: And what really would be the gains of this since you can get all the DLC anyway on Steam?

Price of DLC sold separately: €45.

Price of Legendary Edition minus base game: €10.

If you want this type of upgrade, at least tell us what price you have in mind so we can discuss if it's reasonable. Right now it doesn't seem to be.

IMO the Legendary Edition's price is fine. People who have no DLC can buy it and actually save €5.

That's how it was for Morrowind GOTY, Oblivion GOTY and Fallout 3 GOTY too. It was cheaper to buy the big bundle than the game and expansions/DLCs separately. And it's generally how it is for all kinds of products too, the "bigger pack, better value" mantra is very common, especially in grocery stores.

It was more expensive to buy the game early and the DLCs separately but then you had the luxery of playing the game early. Now it's a 2 year old product, and thus the price gotten cheaper to attract new customers.

The gains would be for those who own the base game obtaining that DLC in a package.

Most games with DLC, often offer all DLC in a package as seen in games such as Warhammer or Saints Row 3 for example.

The legendary edition is an example which also includes the base game called Skyrim which is not added to a users account if they already own the game Skyrim.

I wouldnt figure out the price, and I have no suggestions there, that would be Bethesda who have a team that have a long history of selling Bethesda titles on Steam a digital marketeplace online for purchasing digital goods.

The discussion was for the Legendary edition upgrade for customers who own the base game Skyrim, for those who maybe dont own the DLC or if they do own the DLC what are their thoughts, etc...

Very true. Of course, all us svckers bought the game early and the DLC as it released and paid way too much. hehe.

And then we'll say, ooooo I'll wait for the GOTY next time, save some money.

And repeat.

The whole purpose of the GOTY/Ultimate/Legendary/etc editions are to give new players a luanch straight into the full experience.

Then you are already getting what you are asking for. You get all DLC for a discount compared to purchasing them separately.

The Legendary edition was not available at launch, as a fan of the series, I preorderd the CE with the dragon statue which is not the legendary edition. Of course this means I got to enjoy it right away which was a great experience. I wouldnt imagine anyone is a svcker if they enjoyed the game and had alot of fun playing it.

Having STEAM and my OS on a 256 Gb SSD, the 1.3 Gb dedicated to Dawnguard is an unnecessary storage of unused data.
