"Legendary" weapons

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:11 pm

Does anyone else hope to see special weapons in skyrim? I know Oblivion had Umbra but that was about it. there isnt anything as satisfying as getting lucky and discovering an awesome weapon that gives you an edge over your enemies. or simply finding an above average sword as a prize for braving a challenging dungeon or cave. Same idea goes for armor. finding a unique helm or shield would be great also.

Staff of worms? chillrend? debaser? those were pretty awesome and unique. also i think there was dawn/dusk fang but that was expansion. And all those daedric quest items, skull of corruption and wabbajack. though i would like to see the return of some of these and new ones in skyrim.

Not just Umbra, how about dual wielding the Ebony blade and Goldbrand, that alone would be worth the price of the game.

One of the things I liked about Fable I & II was that the legendary weapons actually felt legendary, and that they were once used by strong warriors. I hope Skyrim can pull this feeling off :D and I hope that not all the legendary weapons are from Daedric shrines.

Oblivion had far more http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Unique_Items#Unique_Weapons than just Umbra

As far as "legendary" goes that would be http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Artifacts There are many in the TES universe that were not in Oblivion, but it had quite a lot.

Maybe the Blades still have the Armour of Tiber Septim. Proper gear for the Dragonborn.

that was exactly what i was thinking. when i got the solice greatsword in fable 1, i felt unstoppable. and yes there were all of those unique weapons but they were all obtained through quests. im talking about battling your way through and undead-infested dungeon for three hours and chancing upon a weapon that makes you feel like deciding to explore the dungeon was worth it

Oblivion had plenty of unique weapons. The Dragonsword of Lainlyn was my Redguard's trustiest companion, worth ten times more to me than the horrible Umbra (I prefer the Masque to that demonic sword anyway).

That being said, there were also much too many generic enchanted items; they really became a horrible bore to see in dungeons :sadvaultboy:

I feel like Umbra and Goldbrand will return. Seeing as they've been in snce Morrowind. I really hope they bring back Eltonbrand though.

There is not one game or game series I can name that has as many truly legendary weapons as TES does. How did you come to the conclusion the only legendary weapon in the game was Umbra anyway ?

Maybe it was based on which weapons they used (swords compared to staffs/maces) or based on raw stats bonuses.

Chrysamere!

Edit: Chrysamere, the Paladin's Blade and Sword of Heroes, is an ancient claymore with offensive capabilities only surpassed by its defenses. It lends the wielder health, protects him or her from fire, and reflects any deletory spells cast against the wielder back to the caster. Seldom has Chrysamere been wielded by a bladesman for any length of time, for it chooses not to favor one champion.

Now that was a weapon! And it fits the feel of Skyrim so far.

hehe, maybe im a little weird, but I never used legendary weapons very much in Morrowind and Oblivion. I like to play with high quality weapons instead, daedric dai katana and so on. Maybe im just one of thoose guys that don't want to be a master in everything, using all legendary armor and weapons all the time. I really liked Ice Blade Of The Monarch though, used that one a little bit.

Legendary Weapons = Fable
Artifacts = The Elder Scrolls

I hope getting Artifacts won't be so formulaic this time like in Oblivion, it was just a grind of find a shrine, follow the quest marker and return to receive your item.

In Morrowind it was great to read about artifacts and get some rumours about their location (yes I used the internet), then set out and see if your character was tough enough to get the weapon (eg: Umbra fight).

Im just talking about randomly finding them. like i said, i dont like how alot of these weapons (dawn/duskfang, umbra, mehrunes razor, staff of worms, crusaders weapons and armor) are obtained through quests. Does anyone remember the sword of white woe? does anyone remember the satisfaction of reading its stats and realizing how much better it was than your equipped weapon? (i chanced upon the sword very early and at the time, only had an iron longsword.) i just like that holy S*** feeling of finding an awesome weapon in that beat up old chest in that room you almost decided not to bother exploring.

and P.S. never tell a TES fan that they dont play much TES. its like telling a muslim that he doesnt pray to mecca

Wasn't the Sword of White Woe a generic Morrowind magic weapon?

Anyway, I know what you mean. It would be epic to stumble upon some ancient lair of undead abominations, and at the end of the long road to discover some ancient artifact of Tamriel in the deepest bowels of the dungeon.

These are a staple since Morrowind! Not just weapons but armour too. There will most definitely be named legendary weapons.

Edit: Since Morrowind for me, never played an earlier ES game.

I want Goldbrand and the Daedric Crescent! And it would be nice if Trueflame and Hopesfire would reappear. But in general I didn't feel there were too few artefacts or unique weapons and items in Oblivion...

Azura's Star
Chrysamere
Ebony Blade
Goldbrand
Ebony Mail
Helm of Oreyn Bearclaw
Savior's Hide
Skeleton Key (was in 1-4 so no reason it shouldn"t be in Skyrim)
Eleidon's Word
Trueflame (prolly will never appear again really)
Hopesfire (same as above)
Daedric Cresent (would love to see the finishing move for it)

alot of the artifacts was obtained without quests prior to OB

I don't think you should be able to find above averaged weapons, but I think you should make them.....

Example:

Lets say you want the best sword.... First you would need to get a really hard to get gem from a spire..... Then you need to go to a dungeon and get another really hard peice of the sword and another peice somewhere else.... Then craft them together with a soul from a soul gem to create the overpowered weapon...

A weapon i would like to see again is umbra....
