Legion Inspired Build

Post » Sat Dec 13, 2008 2:17 pm

After my NCR character, I want to try Legion on hardcoe. The only weapons I plan on using is Cowboy Repeaters ((Till the unique one)), Machetes ((Same as Repeaters)), and Throwing Spears due to RPing reasons as a Legion. I don't know if I should or shouldn't ignore Science. It's useful and is required for some quests, but the Legion doesn't really use high tech. The special is also a unknown since I don't how good or bad Legions are in those areas. I definitely will go for the requirements for my perks. Also after 20, I can't think of other perks to add. Finally, I have the Dead Money DLC.

Tagged: Guns, Melee, Survival or Repair

Traits: Heavy Handed and Loose Cannon

Rapid Reload 2 AG 5, Guns 30
Educated 4 IN 4
Bloody Mess 6 ((If I don’t need to shoot them in the head for the bounty quest.)) or Heave, Ho!
Cowboy 8 Guns 45, Melee 45
Finesse 10
Piercing Strike would be perfect, but needs 70 Unarmed which makes no sense. Silent Running or Unstoppable Force
Light Step 14 PE 6, AG 6 ((Just because of Dead Money and my self proclaimed ADD))
Better Criticals 16 PE 6, LK 6
Tag! 18
Ninja 20 Melee Weapons 80, Sneak 80

No need to only use Cowboy Rep and Machetes and Throwing Spears.

The Cl also uses well, basically everything. Assualt Carbines, Firre Axes, you name it, everything is used. That emphasis they have on primitivity and unreliance on tech is well, not true.

I don't really see them use anything else. Other then that, how is my build?

Don't forget shotguns, they're pretty common among Legionnaires. They use all kinds of weapons though, so there's no need to restrict yourself too much.

Why take Cowboy if all you will use is a cowboy repeater? I do like that you will limit the weapons you will use, though getting more throwing spears will be tough. The only way I get them are at the beginning of the game from my Tribal DLC, and by killing CL. (Can they be bought/got at the Fort?) If you will take Educated then there shouldn't be a problem with taking the Science skill, but I wouldn't put it above 50 - unless you see this character as a spy/infiltrator. I think you'd be better off with Heave, Ho! instead of Bloody Mess.

Actually Centurion have high level lever-action on them, or even Marksman carbine.

I think what really makes them different is Survival>Medicine.

Havelock: with .357 and Cowboy, Cowboy Rifle is comparable to Sniper Rifle.

I understand that, but part of the reason to take the Cowboy Perk is the other weapons it helps. If he is only going to use the cowboy repeater, there are other Perks to up damage that help the other weapons he will use too.

If I use shotguns what would be the point of melee? Eventually I'll upgrade from the unique Cowboy Repeater and get a Trail Carbine with the scope. I know that I can a lot of throwing spears from Dead Money. By any chance if I break down .357 could I make 44 mag?

sneak I wouldn't think would be a big skill for them, not as much as melee weapon and medium ranged weapons. And if you're going to use a machette, go with perks that increase the speed of your attacks as well as the damage-- those associated with vats or those used outside of vats, depending on how you usually play. Pick up all the hand to hand perks you find from different characters, and if you've got dead money dlc, don't give the silly BoS woman the added perk.

Why not? He can pretend to be a gambler as his cover. Data collection with some fun on the side. I only see it being a problem if he is very bad at it and won't quit - gambling addiction. Could get him in big trouble with the Legion. RP possibilities abound.

You can use the lead and pistol powder from the .357 for the .44.

However to make the full .44 round from scratch you'll need.

Primer ( large pistol ), Breaking down a .44, a 10mm or a 12.7 are where you get these from*.
Lead, scrap metal or any gun ammo broken down will give you lead to use.
Powder pistol, .22, 9mm, .357, 10mm, .44, 12.7 and the 12 guage and 20 guage broken down will supply this ingredient*.
Shell casing .44 looted, found or recovered from your shots*.

So my advice stock up and keep 10mm rounds to break down later, as they're cheap and very common.

* Any marked by this are also available from merchants sometimes, the gun runners are your best bet.
But even they carry quite limited amounts of base ingredients.

Well since the legion members specialize in hand to hand and melee weapons, I would go for 9-10 endurance and strength. Maybe high luck, or charisma, or perception, or intelligence or agility? Or you could make them all 3 ish. I think the other specials you chose would determine what kind of person you were, where as strength and endurance are traits the legion would train into you.

S7 P6 E5 C5 I5 A6 L6. So far I am either level four or five with fifty Melee and Guns. After fifty Repair, I am getting Survival, Medicine, Lock Picking, Science, and Speech to twenty five.

I would reccomend sneak for a legion playthrough. If you want to actually be able to use melee without dying instantly, the best way is to sneak up on an enemy and stab him with liberator.

Melee is pretty much my shotgun. Once they get to a certain range, I am taking out my Liberator.

Cool but still. When doing my legion playthrough on hardcoe, i found that sneak got me past those instances when you ran out of stinkpacks or bullets very often. NCR tend to shoot you from a distance, much easier to kill them one by one.

Might get it to at least fifty. Since I only have 5 Intelligence, I can't waste skill points.
