Legion Role Play Character help.

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 11:03 pm

Alright now that I've gotten bored with just following the main story, I have decided I want to get down and dirty and do some real Role Playing. For this I've decided to do a Legion Role Play character, but I need some help. Mainly I need suggestions on what SPECIALs should be, what perks should I take, as well as Skills. Note I will be playing on hardcoe, and I will be taking my guns to at least fifty so I can use the Sawed Off Shotgun. (I've always been a svcker for the Sawed Off Shotgun, plus I can make some entertaining Mad Max references.)

Also if you have any suggestions for what exactly I should role play as I will gladly take them. (E.G. Lowly Recruit, Augustus to Caesar's uh...Caesar.)

I quite like that setup but I will be definitely be having Melee maxed out and tagged, so I may modify that SPECIAL set to give me a good Strength ranking probably by taking a point from Luck. Also note Guns will not be tagged, and I will only be bringing it up to fifty at the max.

I have a Legion assassin RP. My tag skills are melee weapons, unarmed and sneak. Note, that if you want to use melee or unarmed, you should take both because many perks for one either requires both or the other. As for your SPECIAL, I would do this:
S8
P5
E8
C1
I6
A5
L7

Traits: small frame and kamikaze, loose cannon or trigger discipline.

Don't use any chems or stimpacks. Get rid of radiation with either caravan lunches or doctors. I use doctors bags, but I sleep if I can.

I am doing the same thing. If you wear cl uniform alot to stay true to Ceaser, then NCR actually treats you like you are villified.

I pretended this guy didn t know he was going to love cl, so I have to mold him into cl. I would take the perk that makes you throw things farther as well. Throwing a spears are sweet to NPCs arm in vats.

That is a lie, Savages have to be very skilled in order to survive a savage lifestyle.

Well my guy "Dahmer Bundy" was already a smart sneaky cunning guy, so he has skills. A real cl would have serious survival skill I d bet, big time melee, about 3 int that could grow to 5 over time.

Ignoring the facts will only make you seem as though you are too biased to be taken seriously, Ace. Legionaries are very skilled, very well trained, and very deadly.

Bahahaha that would actually be a pretty fun play through for some looking for a challenge. So far I'm liking the following SPECIAL Setup the most;

S8
P5
E8
C1
I6
A5
L7

However I would most likely modify it to look more like this;
S8
P4 (5 with Glasses or a Hat)
E8
C1
I7
A5
L7

Now as for Traits I'm weighing in between taking Heavy Handed (I don't intend to rely mainly on Crits.) or Small Frame. I will definitely be taking Loose Cannon with the perk Heave Ho! to offset it's negative affects.
Finally as for Roleplaying I am most likely going to be doing a set-up where I go on Legion Raids against the NCR once every two weeks, or once a month or what have you. While in my down time I go on Assassination quests and make sure all of the Legions affairs are in order with regards to the slaves, casinos, ect.

My Tag Skills will be so far as follows;
Melee
Unarmed
I am still debating whether I should take Survival as I will be playing hardcoe mode, or if I should take Explosives to have a nice bit of pyrotechnics with me wherever I go.

Intelligence seems awfully high for a CL? I'd say 4, maybe 5 for a centurian/praetorian.. Because lets face it, the legion aren't exactly the smartest cookies i the jar?
Maybe you'd be better switching a few into the agi. They do seem to run around quite a lot.

True, okay here's my final SPECIAL;
S8
P5 (or 6 if I take a point from Luck or Agility)
E8
C1
I5
A6 (5 if I take a point from this to put in Perception)
L7

Tagged Skills;
Melee
Unarmed
Explosives

Secondary Skills I will level;
Guns
Survival
Medicine

Traits Small Frame, and Loose Cannon.

I play as a private contractore assassin. After getting the safe house i'm more of the joshua Graham. Unkillable and can burn a single town by myself.

After having completed 2 Melee build Legion playthroughs on Very Hard + hardcoe, I'd have to say that a melee character with 10 luck and Super Slam perk is insanely powerful. Almost every hit is critical.

I'd suggest taking a point or two away from Agility. You don't need to use VATS very much for melee character.

Also, I highly recommend Rad Child perk - if you keep yourself at critical or deadly rad poisoning level that is roughly 60-80 times more powerful health regeneration than the monocyte breeder implant.

Here were my starting stats for the last one:
S:7
P:4
E:7
C:1
I:7
A:4
L:10

tagged:
Melee
Survival
Repair or Guns

First areas for focusing skill points were to build melee to 45 (Super Slam), survival to 70 (Rad Child)

Hmm... Yeah. Topic tyle doesn't read "NCR vs Caesar's Legion". We know how much you love the NCR but let's try to stay on topic. Currently I'm roleplaying a legionarie as well so here my SPECIAL build:

S:7
P:6
E:7
C:2
I:7
A:8
L:3

I should note I'm not roleplaying some brand spankin' new recruit by a hardened veteran well on his way to Centurion, so I tried to make his SPECIAL stats reflect that. As for what I'll put "Intensive Training" points into, probably Strength and Intelligence, as those are two things an officer who fights on the front lines would need in abundance.

I've decided to not use Hard Core mode, because after two hours of it being on I've found food and water and sleep to be not realistic, but rather tedious and annoying. That said I am having great fun, I've decided on my back story I am a Legion Explorer who was shot outside of Goodsprings by Benny, after waking up I begin a long voyage back to Nipton. Currently at Primm where I have wiped out the NCR outside of the town, and left everyone there under the protection of Slimm Primm for my following reasons;
A.) When the glorious Caesar does roll through this area of the Mojave Slimm Primm will be very ineffective at protecting Primm from our wrath.
B.) I do not want that town to rot yet.

My only regrets so far is neglecting to kill the Poweder Gangers, after they took over Goodsprings. As far as my SPECIAL set-up goes, it's so far so good.. though I would have liked to have a bit more Intelligence so I can actually distribute a better amount of skill points each level but 'eh its a minor complaint. :/

I've been puzzling how to play another Legion playthrough. My last Legion courier was a daughter of a former Enclave officer in hiding who taught her to hate the NCR and left her with the tag skills of Science, Speech, and Energy Weapons before dying and leaving her with nothing forcing her to work as a a courier for Mojave Express (enter Benny and the Platinum Chip, stage right). It was satisfying, and I roleplayed that the Caesar's Legion ending allowed my female energy-weapon-toting courier to influence some of the Legion ideals about feminism and technology, presumably for the better (especially when a coin with her face on it is spreading through legion territory)

as for the second playthrough I can thank this thread for allowing me to settle on a playstyle atleast, being some kind of ninja-sniper hybrid using sneaking melee crits in close quarters and a fuly upgraded, scoped hunting rifle (my favorite weapon in the game) for scouting long range kills. It would also allow for some finesse and greater choice in quest options. The first Legion charcter I mentioned above pretty much just did everything anti-NCR which closed off alot of quests to me after my reputation with them dropped too low, too early or forced me into "evil" choices like helping Powder Gangers take Goodsprings. With this playstyle I could do something like side with the Powder Gangers in the prison and then alert the NCR to their plans leading the NCR to send troopers to attack the prison, all with the roleplaying rationale that forcing a conflict between them would weaken both!

Man I love roleplaying in this game, and thanks for this thread for giving me some good ideas :D
