Greetings!

FWIW, this is my very first post on the Oblivion side of things. I've been playing and enjoying Morrowind for some time, but I only recently upgraded my PC enough to handle Oblivion. After some hassle, I got a copy of the 5th anniversary edition (with SI and Knights) from GameStop, installed it, and took my first spin. So far, I like it, and definitely think it's pretty (though it didn't know what to do with my 5770 card!).

So, I'm now starting down the long road to mod the game. I'd like to get my hands on the DLC, but as far as I can tell, it's no longer available from Bethesda's website? I see the DL links for Xbox, but I'm on the PC, and I don't think that would help me any.

SO, a couple of specific questions:

IS the original (PC) DLC available from a legitimate source at this time, and if so, where?

Should I even worry much about it? I know that a lot of the gamesas DLC for Morrowind isn't great. Is there anything I can't live without?

If it's not available, is there any fan-made content that can take its place?

Knights of the Nine was the best smaller DLC of the bunch. You've already got what's really worth worrying about with the 5th anniversary edition.

To be quite frank your not missing too much without the official DLC's.
I note that you have KOT9. The only other IMO that's even close to a good mod standard is Mehrune's Razor.

As you've experienced Morrowind if there's a particular type of mod you enjoyed there it's almost certain that an equivalent mod exists for Oblivion.
Just expand on the type of content that interests you.
For mod recommendations the only one I ever would suggest is the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Believe it or not, for all it's vanilla shortcomings if properly modded Oblivion can be a helluva game.

It's the only place to get the DLC right now. The KotN disc includes all but one, but it's hard to find these days. That's what I meant.

If you're lucky you could find the DLC's randomly sitting on shelves at Gamestop, BestBuy, Walmart, Target ... anywhere that sells PC games.

Then there's always eBay. But, yeah... after Oblivion itself, for me it's Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, Mehrunes' Razor, and The Orrery (not really useful, but quite an eye candy show). All the rest hold no appeal for me.

Yeah the 5770 unfortunately gets confused by the autodetect as the old Nvidia FX57xx series cards which had problems with the shader implementation (Nvidia tweaked it to score higher on the benchmarking programs and it had problems in actual implementation as a result !!) causing Beth to release an Ultra-low setting with the first patch -- so every time the auto detect runs you'll need to use the launcher presets to turn it back to Ultra High instead of ultra low (some of the settings it adjusts are not easily modified in the ini files but the presets fixes things !! )

The Knights of the Nine CD, which includes everything except Battlehorn, is still pretty easy to find via online marketplaces like Amazon. (Just went and took a look, there are a bunch of options for under $20, including new copies).

Thanks for all the responses. Your thoughts pretty much support my expectations, so I'll just continue on the way I've already been going and not worry overmuch about the now-unavailable DLC. It's pretty sad though when I WANT to pay the company for stuff and can't do so...kinda poor business model, dontchathink?

Steam does not carry the DLC. You can only buy the GOTY edition or the GOTY Deluxe edition on Steam, the latter of which includes all the DLC for $24.99 USD currently.

Yes, hence the only way to get it all is via Steam...
