Less dragon encounters

Post » Thu Mar 14, 2013 5:26 pm

Bethesda mentioned in their list of changes for the next patch, that you will be less likely to have random encounters with dragons. What do you guys think of this? I personally don't like it, because I don't see enough dragons as it is, and now that we have perks reset from Dragonborn, the souls will become even more useful, aside from the fact that on my rather new character (3rd playthrough) I still have plenty shouts to find and unlock with souls.

I'm not pissed or anything, I will adapt to it for the sake of everything else the patch offers but i'd like to know what you guys think of it and whether or not you think it will affect your gameplay.

You don't see enough dragons? I finished the main quest and they're still showing up everywhere. I'm getting real sick of them. Dragons are like Oblivon gates were in TES:IV, but worse because they follow you around and show up in towns.

I don't know, on some playthroughs they're popping everywhere, other times I unlock word walls way faster than they appear, which is a bit annoying.

Dragons aren't even a threat to me. Just Dragonrend and hit them with a bow from afar.

They're just annoying.

Just to clarify, it's not less dragons overall, it is actually quite specific: Less chance of a dragon encounter following fast travel after the main quest. It should not make any difference if you don't fast travel, or haven't finished the main quest.

That actually sounds good.

Had had so many dragon encounters with my characters (one game finished with 189 dragon souls) that I installed a mod that reduces appearances during the MQ and stops appearances entirely after completing it.

Way to state the obvious. Yes we know they are easy to kill. read my thread again, it has nothing to do with difficulty of killing dragons.

Ahh so it only affects encountering them after fast travel (after main quest of course) ? Thank you for clarifying this for me! I appreciate it

They're very hit and miss for me. I can through 5-8 levels and not see 1. Then, They start popping up almost consistently for a few levels. Then again, I have had 2 or 3 appear at the same time after a long drought with no no Dragons. Then you have the Dragons that tease you by appearing, circling about for a little while, and then flying off into the wild blue yonder. Yes, very hit and miss...

This is good news. Dragons are nothing but a pest. I don't need the souls anymore and even if I did I could always go to a roost and kill one there.

I would like it if random dragon attacks were very rare, forcing me to actually seek them out and hunt them, and use their souls carefully.

Rafwaster approves this change.

if you've already been to a "roost" or word wall where a dragon usually was, you can't take their soul a second time around right? I think that's happened before i'm not sure if its a glitch or not

its not like the random dragons are gonna be a rare encounter that some may never see now
its stated they are making them less frequent
random dragon spawns are based to a timer, so this will not really change how likely you are to find one, theres just gonna be larger (but roughly equal) gaps of time between appearances
so youre still guaranteed to run into them when the timer says 'make a dragon', youll just have more relaxation time between them
i love the idea
i could reset every skill 10 times and still have souls to spare, so its a blessing to me

I never saw a difference in whether you traveled or walked. Back when people used to complain not to fast travel to places and there would be less dragon attacks was utter B.S. I personally tested the theory and found even if I walked to a open town or orc camp, it still triggered an attack as if you fast traveled. Also even if you get there and as soon as you go inside a house or whatever and then come back out. The loading is about the same as if you fast travel and dragon attacks happen. So in closing for those who keep screaming not to fast travel, It still happens even if you don't.

Don't forget the ones that laugh at Dragonrend and go flying into orbit or sailing off into the distance. :gun:

For sure! And I have a couple land in a town (Riften and Windehelm) while I was outside of said town once the Dragonrend took affect :)
