1 less magic skills+ enchant?/ loosing skills

Post » Sat Aug 28, 2010 4:57 pm

just noticed that we are going to loose another magic skill aside from mysticism. i think i read in the mag that there were 6 skills in oblivion and that there will be five in skyrim. if we take away the extra one from the skyrim 5 that leves us with four skills from oblivion. therefore what gets cut out? alteration, conjouration, illusion, destruction or restoration?

secondly, wills redundant (in the eyes of the developers) get merged or will we loose armour skills.

if we loose armour skills- do we get armour medium back?

will our beloved pole-arms be sneaked back in?

All of those are confirmed to be in the game already (they're all in the screenshot of the skills menu), so none of them is being cut. You read wrong.

I don't think that enchant is considered a magic skill, due to the fact it can be beneficial for fighters and thief characters alike.

There were 6 schools of magic in Oblivion and now we have 5. The other magic skill was Alchemy (which is now in the "thief" category going by the screenshots of the skill menu).

Enchanting is a skill of magic.

There were 8 magical skills in oblivion.

Well sorta if you count alchemy but they did oblivion.

were gonna lose 3 skills from Oblivion, my guess is acrobatics and athletics will get merged, and sneak and security will get merged, we think that they will be specialized with perks, also the weapons are now 1hand and 2 hand I think

I am kinda glad they are doing it, getting rid of some of the redundant skills

No other magick skills are cut out besides mysticism, and enchant back in. Athletics and acrobatics must be one skill now, or none at all (based on attributes). Armorer is msot likely now smithing. speechcraft and mercantile are probably one skill. Weapons might be-one handed, two handed, dual-wielding, even though I'd prefer pole-arms, longblade, shortblade, axe, blunt, marksmans, dualwielding, but thats TOO much.

Yeah I don't think Enchant, like alchemy, is being counted as an actual magic school. A magic skill, but not a magic school, like alchemy.

There were seven. Illusion, Alchemy, Conjuration, Mysticism, Alteration, Destruction, Restoration.

Melee weapons skills are 2: one handed and *probably* two handed.

Todd mentioned if you use a one handed weapon, your skill will increase. To me, it implied there's a one handed skill.

Incorrect, it is ALCHEMY that is not considered a magical skill, because there is magical invocation involved from the user. All the magic comes from the ingredients.

He's serious, mate. It's not a bad thing though, it's a complexity through simplicity thing I believe.

It didn't, really. He was making a comment about how the skill system works in general and he used the phrase "one-handed weapon" in it, and people have taken that to mean that "one-handed weapons" is a specific skill. We don't have nearly enough to go on to say that that's the case.

This is the skill-set I guessed last night

Bold - Confirmed [through screenshot]
Italics - Deduced from article

Illusion
Conjuration
Destruction
Restoration
Alteration
Alchemy
Enchanting

Smithing (though smiting dragons and smiling are just as likely)
Marksman
One-Handed
Two-Handed
Sneak
Block

Speechcraft
Unarmoured
Armoured
Hand-to-Hand
Athleticism (combines encumbrance, athletics, and agility)

We need more info, not more speculation. And I think a good discussion on skills needs a discussion on perks at the same time (which we know nothing about). I heard attributes such as strength, intelligence are now gone? Can anyone verify

Meh. Rumours.

People are just going mental because they weren't mentioned in the article.

Although I prefer the perk system anyway.

I have a feeling that armor skills will be removed and that their effectness will be governed by other factors.

Would it be neat if everything was merged so the game is ridiculously easy?

And if they do have climbing is in, if you have a low acrobatics, manteling over objects should be more sluggish. Having a high acrobatics will make it easier for you to climb.
