Lessons of Life
Chapter 1. Falling
Blood roared in his ears, his heartbeat drowned out all other noise. His grasp held firm, faltering wasn't an option. He glanced over his shoulder, down to the ground below him. Secunda and Masser were fully lit. The Ordinators could be heard storming the ledge he dangled from. Crimson eyes searched the ground below him, no where safe to land. His tattered pants flapped in the wind as he began to pull himself up. It had been weeks since Tharasn had seen the sky, being held in the Ministry of Truth wasn't his best experience but neither his worst. Being starved for so long had sapped his strength, he could barely heave himself to safety.
The Ordinators had taken their search elsewhere. He placed his hand on the Wakizashi's grip. It had been no easy task taking out that guard, but now he had a weapon and that was well worth his trouble. Then they spotted him, he had to make a mad dash for the exit. He lept from the ledge, his hands had barely found the ledge before gravity had claimed him. Now here he was, out of breath and arms to weak to fight. He pressed his body against the rock wall opposite of the ledge. A lone Ordinator came out of a near by door. The scaffold creaked as the masked figure stepped out into the cool night. Tharasn could feel his magicka slowly begin to pulse in the back of his head. The affects of the food had finally worn off.
A small flame flickered in between his fingers, he grimaced as he felt a tug at his reserves. He focused harder and the flame became a large burning ball. The guard turned and saw the Dunmer. "Stop there sc-!" the flame found its way to his face. His helmet flew from his head and he stumbled backwards exposing the Dark Elf underneath. Now with a chance present Tharasn drew his Wakizashi and charged. The Dunmer felt cold metal enter through his chest, Tharasn felt gore splatter across his arms. The Ordinator let out a scream as pain surged through his body, his feet retreated as fast as they could. The blade slid out with gore coating its surface. Soon the guards heart dropped as the solid ground disappear. His vision began to black, he could feel gravity's tug as he plummeted downwards. Tharasn stood on the ledge and watched as he fell towards Vivec...
With renewed vigor he turned and ran across the scaffold. The wood creaked as he raced around a ledge and stopped dead in his tracks. A Dunmer in Ordinator armor stood with his blade drawn...
"Duldar, how are you?" Tharasn croaked out weakly, his humor still evident in his voice.
"Tharasn, your weak, hungry and drained of magicka... You'll never get out of here alive." The voice was strong, and rose above the roaring wind.
"I would rather die than give up."
"Looks like your about to get your wish." Duldar pointed behind the escaped prisoner. Tharasn turned his head and a mob of Ordinators came around the bend. He was trapped, no way out but down. He looked over the ledge and saw the dark waters below him. Duldar knew what he was thinking.
"Don't, its to shallow." But it was to late, Tharasn was already over the railing and falling, falling fast...
