Let us be grateful for the lack of new information.

Post » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:47 am

I think we all ready know too much, and have already had a few surprises spoiled for us, now this will not keep me from searching for new info because my excitement just won't let me. I wonder how many of you agree with me.

Now for what I wish I didn't know. I wish I did not know it starts with us being lead to our execution, I wish I did not know about the grey beards, I wish I didn't know about the 7000 steps, or that we're dohvakin, I wish I didn't know that the grey beards shout loudly dohvakin before we find out (in game) that we are, that would have had a huge air of mystery. Wish I didn't didn't know we'd find out we're dohvakin because of a dragon encounter. All that stuff has really spoiled the surprise, and while it's exciting to hear it does dampen things.

Dont you think that its logical to think that, if they release some info, its because ITS NOT a spoiler, and just something that, even though one may find interesting, its not what will make for the surprises?

Not really.... Now I know that the majority of the main quest will see me killing dragons, ruining Alduin's day and eventually saving the world. It doesn't matter what spin you put on it, I know that the player character must succeed in doing that and could probably extrapolate the entire main quest after the first few questions. Whereas for the first part of Morrowind's main quest I thought I was just some guy who was researching the 6th House Cult and Nerevarine so that we could find the Nereverine and help him take down Dagoth Ur (it was my first TES game, hence my naiive point of view)

Whereas if they had played that down a bit and emphasised the amazing Civil War and how amazing that was, then their message on the 11th would be "oh yeah, by the way. There are dragons. You're dragon-born. Alduin's trying to eat the world. Get to it." telling us the entire basic plot of the game is a little bit of a spoiler

Likewise, 7000 steps. If they are part of the main quest, and I walk up them, at the halfway point I would want to think "man... these steps MUST end soon" rather than "AH! These are the steps. 3500 down, another 3500 to go)

I like how you made this thread 1 week before the fan interview is purportedly going to be answered and a couple weeks before E3 :boggle:

I'm partly grateful. I'd like to hear much more about technical & graphics stuff. That doesn't spoil anything.

I don't want to see too many screenshots or too many locations of the game, since that spoils. Neither do I want to hear anything about the story, quests or guilds or such. Some gameplay things like how crime works is also something I'd rather not hear.

So... there are quite a few things I don't want to hear about. Too much knowledge isn't good. So I'm partly grateful.

Actually doing so was intentional. There is a two fold reason, one is to get people to think about weather they want to persue more information and consider how it might make the game less interesting, and the second is (and it's a longshot) that bethesda might consider this before they start throwing us delicious information bits that will end up hurting our stomachs. (best anology I could think of)

I'm with you concerning the story.

However, it IS incredibly intriguing to know about the prophecy, though....that was the whole point of the announcement trailer for the game, after all. It's really cool knowing what great challenge we'll face, in the same way it was cool knowing that you would be doing a certain great task or facing some great threat from the descriptions of most Action/Adventure games, FPS's, and other RPGs (linear especially). I like knowing the outline, because it makes my mind wander and I imagine what the possibilities could be for the story. The best part is that because of knowing what Bethesda wants us to know, we'll be even that much more impressed when they throw twists and turns into the story that we didn't expect.
- At least I hope they plan on doing that, based on the fact that I'm sure they want to leave their track record for poor writing in the past. I really, really hope that changes, because TES games have epic lore, but are lacking on the actual meat of the story in-game. -

I love the mystery of the non-MQ quests, for sure, but I do like the outline of a prophecy for the MQ. I mean, I knew the plan going into Shivering Isles' MQ, but I still loved it, and I was certainly surprised and impressed by the story's turns and conclusion. If Skyrim's at least as good as SI concerning the MQ, I'll be quite happy. But even so, the MQ is just the basic story, and I know that based on my experience from Oblivion, it's not what really "makes" the game, anyway.

Don't want to hear anything about story. Only interested in hearing about mechanics at this point.

What I don't understand is don't you think that even knowing the mechanics before hand might spoil the learning experience for y'all? that's something that I actually greatly enjoy.

Bethesda hasn't even shown us a third of what Skyrim has to offer.

that's a good thing even 1/8 would be WAY too much, my guess is they've at least given us 1/46th of what it has to offer, which in my opinion is enough (the ratio might be even larger)

I think it didnt spoil all that much. I mean think about it. Why would todd release all the good info before releasing the game? He wouldnt. he would only do this to excite the fanbase about the game.
Having said that, he wouldnt release the good info we all want, and will get when the game comes out. he explained the first 30 mins to a 20 hour main storyline game and 100 plus additional hours of sidequests and faction quests, with return to old and NEW factions.

I think we are going to have our minds blown, i havent lost faith :tes:

If I was given the choice between knowing everything about the game right now or not knowing anything more until release, I honestly wouldn't be able to choose. I want to save as much of the game for release, but at the same time this wait is nearly torturous, so getting new information makes it more bearable. I hope they give us a little bit more information, but only information on less important aspects of the game. Too much spoils it.

no idea where I fit into this. I certainly would not be on here much though if they gave out no information because there would be nothing to discuss.

Eh I want to know more about the mechanics, not the plot.
Most of the stuff I've heard so far has disappointed me, and I really want this game to be fun. So yeah I need more info! :P

I'm just curious (and this isn't a thread for this topic so lets keep it to a minimum) what have you heard so far that's disappointed you?
