Let's hear it for the PC community!

You can not circle strafe around your enemy and keep your aim at his head at the same time with a console controller.

I'm going to be playing Brink on PS3, and while I agree in principle with most of what you're saying, this part can be proven wrong.

With appropriate controller sensitivity on Resistance: Fall of Man (a PS3 exclusive from the console's release lineup), a skilled player CAN circle strafe and consistently headshot an opponent. Many players prefer to lower their sensitivity to improve precision, but if you're comfortable enough with the controls, you can aim accurately enough with the sensitivity high enough to circle strafe a slow-moving target. If they start running when you start circling, you'll have to change tactics, but that's the same on PC, you can keep circling unless you can outrun them, can you?

i'm getting it on PC and i got it off of STEAM!
i hope people will actually use their MICs for this game, most games on PC people don't use their mics (as far as i've noticed). hopefully since this game requires MASS teamwork more people will be inclined to get their mics on :)

PC gamer here, Just adding to the noise :) Gonna be getting it off of steam sometime this week I think. I cant wait to see you all through my iron sights! Also, if any one is interested in some great PC clan-play, check out http://www.clanaod.net/forums/index.php, we're planning on starting up a competitive TWL Brink team, if we have enough people, but most of all we just love teamwork-oriented games, so naturally we are all pumped for Brink!

PC gamer but not pc with my views.

If this game is what we all believe it should be then the sky's the limit. BUT we all have been burned before so all I can say is next Tuesday all shall be revealed.

Im a year older than the OP and i have to admit i'm exactly the same man, i got a major woody when i saw the SMART system in action and getting rid of TDM i can't thank the dev's enough. and as a result the community have to work together, making it on the whole a more positive experience, none of this lone wolf glory hunter crap ruining the game. Free dedicated servers is just amazing, lets hope everyone realises gameservers.com is god awfull and its stocks take a dive when everyone emigrates from black ops and stops being a bunch douchebags.

I think Brink will be huge on PC, but the only thing now that I'm apprehensive of is in fact the skill ceiling. I fear that it may be far too low.

Oh, and whoever said that TF2 is niche needs to be hung, drawn, and quartered. <_<

Man, if I could give you a high five, I would. You are absolutely correct, I also think this game may have a low skill ceiling. The fact that you understand what a skill ceiling is, and you can foresee it just tells me you're actually an experienced FPS player. Good man!

As a result though, this game's play will be more tactic focused, or at least that's what I am hoping. It should be a very much needed change for the genre. Of course, I personally am not a fan of low skill plateaus, as it just limits skilled players, but I am interested in the team play it surely will encourage.

To answer the OP:

Where you getting it? Steam, Amazon, Gamestop etc?
D2D, because the psycho pack is awesome :D

How do you think the community for this game will be?
I think we will have a little community at first, but my guess is that it will expand. The reason for this is the poor marketing from devs. If modding will be allowed then it will be huge

Do you think it will turn into a sort of niche' community like TF2?
Yep, the game is unique, so of course

Do you think this game will be competitive? Will there be clan matches? Tournaments?
I think it will be competetive, but only the stopwatch mode will be played. Again it all depends on the mod community, and if they allow modding

Do you think this game will be too consolized to reach a proper PC skill ceiling?
I don't hope that it is oversimplified for the consoles, but we will have to wait and see...

I just wanna have fun again lol. SOF II was the last MP shooter I played that was truly fun (made me laugh a lot, even when I was getting my ass kicked). I'm hoping Brink will put some fun back in to PC Gaming for me. BRING ON NEXT TUESDAY! :gun:

One of the best FPS SOF 2 that's what started it for me. I pre ordered from Steam I really don't want to get my hopes up only to be let down like for instance Crysis 2 did. But from the game play videos and because its SD who is part of this I think it will be fun.

No DX11 as it's OpenGL based, but there should be AA and some other graphics options to tweak.

Great replies to this thread to far.

I would like to chime in on the controller vs. mouse argument on page 2. I think like the one ugy said; it's less of a player constraint than it is a physical one. I have played shooters on consoles before, and I know how they work. I know people are quite good at console FPS -- I am one of them. I grew up playing on consoles, back in the day I couldn't afford a beefy enough gaming PC -- all I could play was CS and TFC.

Controllers are tedious to use, and very hard to master. Even the best console players are limited by an inherent handicap given to them by their two thumbsticks.

Guys do we really need another thread praising one part of the community and shunning the others? No? Didn't think so.

When BRINK is out there will probably be alot of sub-forums for it, maybe there will be PC, PS3 and XBOX360 sub-forums?

Might do more good than damage, yeah? :P

That would be a perfectly acceptable solution, actually.
Well until then, I would just like to keep threads opening discussion to certain parts of the community to a down low.

Heh, it's just one of many many threads on this forum. Why people like you have to post your two cents of negativity in such threads is beyond me. Believe me, as much as I'd like to trash and flame on console players -- I refrain. As you can see from my OP, there was no disrespect towards anybody.

Thanks for posting though anyway.

Again, you don't have to post in this thread or any such thread. There are plenty of people making similar posts for PS3/Xbox, so go post in their threads too -- or is this just something you specifically have against PC players?

So if this not about the xbox you can't have this thread? Even though they outnumber us at least 2 to 1. I guess it also means they will have disrespectful people by more then 2 to 1 as well. PS3 people don't seem to have problem with this thread either.
