Let's be honest; did this game fail?

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 8:08 am

I have not played the game yet on pc, been playing it on the xbox 360....

Must say alotta of lag... think they should have had an open beta on the game to be sure how it would run. I'm not as happy with the game as I hope I was going to be... On pc ... its not so bad being and keyboard is much easier to control than a gamepad..

but i believe the developers just didnt take alot of things into concept when using a controller...
Its awesome how they made a custom layout option and you can put anything anywhere on the buttons..
but the fail on somethings i noticed...

I used to play rainbow six 3.. and to lean on the was just to tap the dpad left or right... not hold the dpade left or right like brink... That to me is FAIL. Tap is much better than holding...

Also... Having the option to aim/zoom with the thumbstick to me is a plus.. I've never been a fan of the COD aim with the left trigger. Being able to zoom with by clicking the thumbstick is a plus. But sadly they FAILED at that also by making it so you have to hold the thumb stick click down to zoom... not making it possible to toggle... That is why its a FAIL.

Just for somereason... I get the feeling england and splashdamage dont really know what is efficient when playing with a controller...

brink needs bots removed and pre lobbies for parties put in place. they failed at merging SP n MP, this is like counter strike and battlefield offline in the old days...its nothing NEW. other than that brink actually is a good game! just freaking delete the bots completely from online play

this is the thing. the reason they kept the bots in is so the teams are balanced. lets say you go in a game against a full group and its you verse them and there are no bots... you are screwed. they are gonna bend you over a table and spank you some might even comment on how pretty your mouth is and youll have noone to protect you. BUT if you have the bots with you they will help you if you get in that position... just sayin

If you looked at every video for how it was, the game isn't a disappointment. Most of the people complaining are people who made up unrealistic expectations that SD never mentioned.

Where is this game? - where is the darkness? - The color? The gameplay? The funny/sarcastic security cinematics....

Where is this Game SD? Is this Brink 2? Or possibly the "real" version of Brink?

This is what got me into brink in the first place - I wanted too know "Whats that green glow at the end"....

Well - Where the hell did you guys go wrong.

Umm... pretty much everything in that video is in the game. The only difference is they lightened up the level and the objective wheel has less things when you go to a command post because you dont have to pick a load out anymore, you can pick whatever guns you want. I say its an improvement. That being said, they need to fix the lag issues and tune up the game some more.

to anyone who thought that there was gonna be a supper immersive story: how the heck did you get that idea.
to anyone who thought that this is gonna be a competitive multiplayer game with some story elements to tie the maps together: good job you are smart!

Edit: and what Metaknight said

Like you said, its fun, I still play it every day, but to me, it did fail.

Just how bad they managed to screw up in turns of performance issues and bugs alone is staggering. Not to mention the balance issues, things taken out, lack of game modes, strange design decisions, and inability to set up games with people effectivly.

Its good, but this game was released untested and unfinished, im sure some problems will be fixed in coming patches, but it wont be soon at all to deal with most of them. They're having free DLC, why? Because the game was sent out unfinished, and thats what they're going to try and piece in the holes with. The performance issues are still rediculous though, regardless of if other games do it (very few do) for anything that costs money, to be put out so bad is truely astounding and should be constantly berated on that issue untill its fixed

Mine actually looked like that, that is until I went into the options and MADE my screen a tad bit lighter. I hate when its real dark, I cant seem to tell things apart...btw Im running HDMI on the 360.

This game is great, it takes the whole FPS to a different level. Instead of just going for kills, you actually need smart team mates to win. Only problem now (at least with 360) is 1) LAG and 2) lobbies I believe. Aside from that though if you want to dig deeper, more missions, customizations, and more weapons.

I'm not a PC gamer (well, not for BRINK anyway) so I don't know what is going on with steam servers but Xbox live has a lot of matches full of people for me.

As far as PC servers. Because this game supports dedicated and is competitive. You end up with a lot of empty servers for training and testing by clans.

Brink isn't a failure, I saw this so long ago, people saying this game would be a dissapointment, it isn't. New DLC for FREE is going to be here in less than a month, new maps and possibly new customization. SD is patching the horendous lagging already( for xbox users), yesturday I could barely play due to it. Today I actually managed to play a couple hours uninterupted by lag. Thats the problem with people who over hype a game, only to say it svcks later. Give it some time people, in a few months we could get double the maps and customization, maybe new missons, but saying this game is a failure after just one week, is being ignorant and impatient.

I honestly think this game should be an Xbox Live Arcade game, not a standalone game. It has about as much content as other FPS games in the arcade (Breach, Blacklight: Tango Down, etc.) and they have pretty much the same customization. I thought this game would be huge but meh, hype is hype.

Is still enjoyable for a while, kudos SD & gamesas.

There have been worse launches....

I haven't experienced any of the problems people are discussing with the 360 version...other than the bots being terrible...but I seem to get less bots when I go big team or old skool. Actually the biggest problem I have is no one using mics! I need some friends with some damn mics!

I would say I have had 1 game of bad lag after a respawn that lasted 2 minutes, but that was it. I will say this....I AM honked off about not having lobbies. It is very difficult to get all human fights from jump. Usually within the first couple of minutes the games round out, but lobbies would have helped with this.

To the people saying this is some great game, I really have a hard time believing you're not being biased. This isn't your child, you can admit that's nothing special. In fact for the 360 it's down right broken in a lot of ways. And the solution to lag is to make games 4v4? LOL what a crock.

Everyday I pop the game and try to get a couple games online. It generally goes like this. 1st game unplayable to do lag. 2nd and 3rd game are the same as the 1st. 4th game might actually be playable but hey look, there are 5 real people out of 16 and I'm playing with 11 bots.

And the reason I'm so pissed off about this game is that I still want to like it and want it be worth my time. But it's simply not.

The servers seem to be laggy on all platforms, and the classes are still somewhat unbalanced. Medics only have to escort VIP's because most people click respawn before medics get a chance to get to them and revive. Engineers have a ton of buffs, side/main objectives, and the best defense abilities. The game just needs a strong recovery.

I think it failed on the basis that it didn't achieve the goals that it set out to accomplish, for example combining single player story elements with multiplayer gameplay. Left 4 Dead 2 did it much better than Brink, and it also came out a year ago.

The bots are there for team balance. If you start your own game, would you rather spend 10 minutes waiting for someone to join and NOT being able to play, or being able to play with human-like bots? Often, it seems the bots play better than the people i've met... Most people think this game is a disappointment, but it isn't. Its DIFFERENT. I went back and played halo, and I kept sprinting into walls like, WHAT TEH EFF!? And not vaulting over... If you can aim, shoot, and move, Brink is good. If you can't do all these, you're the ones whining about how you want your money back.

OH, but I DO agree with the graphics issues... It definitely could be better. Mine seems to have horrid graphics. But Halo: Combat Evolved had horrid graphics, and it's still the best game ever.

Wow, not the Brink I know and love. I like the darkness of the map, Hmm seems like it would have been cooler if they had made the game look a little more along those lines, not to mentilon the gameplay of that seemed a little more exciting that I'm used to online lately (dang people being boring) But all in all they did a pretty fair job with what I expected.
