In the Fallout series of games, particularly heavily modded games, it is a smart move to save OFTEN since you can often crash for no apparent reason. The problem I find is that Fallout only saves the time/date, I think time-played, zone name, and a screenshot at the time of the save. The problem is that that means I will have like six save-games with, for example, "Capital Wasteland" as the location, and my character in the open wasteland... and no idea why I saved each of those games.
If we could NAME our Save-Games, then I could name one "Pre-Level 10" so that I would know I could always load that save game and it would be RIGHT before I dinged level 10, so I could load up that save and pick a different perk, for example, if it turns out the perk I originally chose did not work out like I wanted. Without being able to name the save-games, I would have to keep a separate ledger detailing that save game #235 was the game right before I hit level 10...
Things get even more complicated if, for example, you save game, save game, save game, as you are adventuring and then realize you've screwed up some quest or for whatever reason want to go back... so you load up a save game from five saves ago and then going forward start making new save games... but then you decide you want to load an earlier save game... are you loading a save game from "timeline #1" or from "timeline #2" that extended from the time you loaded up the old, old save and started going forward again?
It seems to be a toss-up, which games let you name their save-games and which do not. I'm sure there's a reason for choosing one method over the other, but in a game where we're likely to use the save/load game feature a lot, it looks like they should make it a bit easier for us to distinguish which point each save-game represents.
