A Let's Play Heavily Modded Skyrim

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2016 3:48 pm

I plan on doing a Let's Play of a heavily modded Skyrim (over 60 visual mods installed, including RealVision ENB), and I was wondering what the community wanted to see.

I personally think a "let's play" from just a blank character starting the game is cliche and overdone - I want to do something original. I could either premake a character or set out to be a specific type of character doing specific questlines or something, just what people want to see. Does anyone have any ideas?

I could also just do a regular Let's Play, so long as people would be interested in it. What say you!

(For your elaborations, for the structure, please denote what questline you'd like to see, etc)

No vote from me - I can't watch stuff, not having the bandwidth. I save bw for mod downloading....

My suggestion. Just do whatever will make you have fun playing the character, If you are not having fun it will show and when you are not having fun the viewers will not have fun either.

Also be yourself and do things that are natural for you, especially if you are doing commentary.

I've watched a lot of Skyrim let's plays. The ones I've enjoyed most have been unique characters played with light roleplaying. Where what quests are done and paths taken are based on the character's personality. Not just do everything and be the leader of every faction and great at every skill.

I'd be interested in a modded let's play. Any unique, different character type is cool. An alternate start would be more interesting. Any of the quests would be fine. Though since I never play the Dark Brotherhood quest line, I'd be a little more interested in watching that, I guess.

Just so long as you have a decent voice and don't get overencumbered every twenty steps (seriously, that's just really annoying to watch).

I don't watch to many of the let's play video's, most just don't peak my interest... ( plus my data runs off my cell phone...I'm picky)

The ones I do like tend to be light to mid Role Plays, Interesting characters.... and while I have nothing against semi skimpy armor...I would rather see armor that makes sense for the character. For example a "paladin" style character in Deadric?? makes no sense at all...

You say "heavily modded"...have the mods make sense for what is going on.

You can even change them ... though I am not sure about ENB's... but you could go from a Hero for good and the Light.. using say an "ultra real" type ENB to an Anti-Hero out to take over Nirn, using something like "Grim and Somber"... if of course you can't change ENB's like that... then Imaginator would be a good mod to use and high-light...as it would allow for that kind of change. ( even has some pre-sets to make tweeking it easier). Back-ground music would help in that aspect also... The type of Armor, Something like SPO armor for the "good" side and something like the "Evil MasterMind Armor" for the "dark" side. The right "home" will help set the mood also.

Their are plenty of "new location" and "quest" mods, that would give your character something to do... So following the "vanilla" game or DLC's isn't really needed. I mean I have had "Northern Encounters" downloaded and checked on the majority of my characters for the last 6 months, but most of them have only "explored" a tiny % of the mod's contents. I like some of us here, tend to make my own stories, using the game and/ or Mod's to make the RP work.

Tell your own story... that is probably the most interesting thing one can do at this point... It may use some of the quests.. or not

The visual mods are purely to make the game look as realistic as possible. I've not added anything absurd or outlandish; it's all lore friendly. It's RealVision ENB and every mod suggested to go with it on their nexus page. It's quite extensive. I also added a few others of my own choosing.

The type of character I am making is a Dark Elf Assassin who uses stealth, marksman, illusion, and destruction to defeat his foes. His spirit made a pact with Clavicus Vile after being slain in combat by a target. In return for giving Clavicus Vile his soul, Vile grants the character with enhanced abilities to track down his target. But first, he must find him. Taking on work in order to track down his enemy, that's where my character begins. I'll decide later on who my target is and incorporate that into my RP.

Oh...right.....so you are making it up as you go.

I thought it was real

Chuckles

He or she could be ex Dark Brotherhood.......kicked out for crimes against the fraternity......which explains the occasional DB assassin attack upon you!

Since the character is a Dark Elf (Dunmer) it would likely fit better that the character is either a Morag Tong or was expelled from them. I think it would fit better to part of them.

An update:

I started the Let's Play, and realized I recorded a video longer than 15 minutes. I made a new youtube channel and the limit is 15 minutes. Well, I figured out you can request for longer lengths and I did, but after rewatching my first video, I have decided to just start over. It was only the first 20 minutes, and my character started at level 1, and in my next video I'd have to manually increase my characters abilities (because of the RP) so I plan on doing a alternate start mod placing me somewhere in the world that fits the RP, and then give my guy a few leather pieces and maybe a iron bow or something, and then start the Let's Play from there.

I also didn't explain my characters backstory at all in my first episode, so I feel like I can just do a better job. The video will be available in a few hours hopefully.

Are your mods going to be purely visual, or are there gameplay mods as well?

There are a few gameplay mods, including UI and added spell mods. But EVERY mod I have is purely lore friendly, nothing out of the ordinary. For instance, I have a mod (can't remember the name) that redoes the perk system making it much better. But that doesn't effect gameplay much or make it OP at all. Just better in every way. Much better of life perks.

Just finished the first episode, compressing and uploading now. :D Man, those damned spider caves almost F'd me up..:D You'll see

The video is still uploading. I started about an hour ago. It's only 2.5GB (was 7.8, but HandBrake helped me out), but I don't have very fast up speed. I'm really not one that cares about super hard encounters and things, so I'll probably be playing on Adept for now and increasing it to Master eventually as I get higher level and better gear.

I present episode 1.

I'm really sorry for the drastic quality loss, but that's all that's to be expected with Youtube compression. It shreds high quality videos. =/ It still looks good, but my original file looks soooooooooo much more crisp it's unreal. Nothing can be done though. I compressed it myself before uploading with handbrake, taking from 7GB to 2GB almost lossless quality. I ran both side by side and they looked great, the same. But Youtube on the otherhand..

Just checked out the episode and left a comment/sub. I'm very impressed with this first upload! The game looks beautiful, and your commentary is very natural.

Out of curiosity, what perk mod are you running? That can drastically change what sort of playthrough we'll see. Ordinator/PerMa/SkyRe?"

Bit of a rough start :D

Your game looks really good. Don't know how you guys can play with that DOF effect though. It would drive me crazy.

Is your character primarily a stealth archer or magic user? You're probably aware of it, but the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/60796/? mod adds a lot of spells to allow a stealthy offensive magic play style. Check it out if you haven't.

I've only been in that cave on its related quest so it's interesting to see that the usual residents are replaced with piles of spiders.

Good first episode. Keep going!

Oh, and set up your quick keys :)

Thanks for the kind words so far guys! I had fun making it, it was a rough start haha.

I believe for the perks I am running SPERG. Thanks. I appreciate that!

He's going to be primarily stealth and magic, using both. Mostly illusion as far as magic goes, and using a bow/some destruction spells to take out certain foes. That lost Grimoire mod actually looks cool. I'm going to look into it, it says it's compatible with Apocalypse, so that's awesome.

Thanks a lot, appreciate it! Episode 2 is coming guys!

Update: Episodes 2-4 have been recorded and my death toll rises. XD Compressing and uploading now.

"Probably wearing his mom on my head." :D Pretty funny. Those two episodes were amusing, gotta say. Your character... well, looking forward to watching him grow from falling off rocks to being a badass. :)

(You do know you can assign favorited things (spells, weapons, items) to the 1-8 number keys to switch to them instantly? That's what I meant by using your quick keys.)
