Let's Play Morrowind with tons of mods! In stunning 1080p!

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 12:38 am

Hi all!

So I've started a "Let's Play" series for Morrowind inspired by two other MW LPs by GixG17 and Veriax, but I wanted to do something a little different and instead of just making my way through the vanilla game I installed a metric ton of mods, got them all to run (relatively) stably. These include everything from the famous graphical overhauls that make the game gorgeous to new quests, landmasses, creatures, items, game mechanics, balancing, etc.

http://www.youtube.com/user/ReymasofAshborne

The first set is 10 videos long (just over 90 minutes total) and since they're 1080p they take a while to upload so I'm about halfway published on the first chapter. All of them should be up by tonight.

Any suggestions or feedback would be great, and if you like what you see then please subscribe and/or spread the word! Also if you get involved you can always request what you want me to be doing next and perhaps some mods that you'd like to see me try!

Cheers!

One little detail: your voice seemed a bit quiet compared to the ingame sound.

Other than that, it looks good so far. :)

Could you post your list of mods please?! :) I really like some of your texture mods as well as the face mod and others...

Thanks guys! Yeah I boosted the mic and lowered the in-game sounds after about video 6 and the current setup seems to be a nice balance. Just recorded another set and will start uploading over the next day or so!

Before I post my mod-list, I'll let you know I am having compile errors revolving around the spoken "hello" dialogue of NPCs specifically in Balmora. If anyone has any insight into why that might be please let me know. I'll post a more detailed 'help me' thread in the mod section. They aren't game crashing but they are a tad annoying (pausing the game every time I pass an npc). Also, in the set I just recorded I randomly was accused of murder and I'm pretty sure I didn't murder anyone.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, glad to entertain, ha, here's the list (merged and mashed beyond recognition, ha!):

Could you put the mod list somewhere into the playlist, too? Your audience at youtube might not want to click onto a link to a forum thread, or the thread could be lost in during forum migration or into the depths of some archives. Just shorten it down to for instance just "GCD" instead of the 8 GCD mods that we can see in your list here.

I'm curious how your LP Morrowind will turn out. Gix and Veriax are fun to watch - but the more, the merrier. :)

I am uploading some more vids right now actually! I will try to get the mod-list on the page as well. I am also going to make it a title card at the end of each set so that'll be helpful too! I am frankly amazed at how stable it has been, I could never get Oblivion to run so smoothly with this many mods!

Gix and Veriax were definitely the progenitors, heh, and I was inspired by them for sure, but as you can tell I am trying to do things a little differently. I am not coming at it totally blind like Gix but I'm by no means a dyed-in-the-wool expert like Veriax either and with all the added content it is tough for me to differentiate between vanilla and modded stuff!

Thanks for watching!

EDIT: Scratch that, I am just going to make a separate vid that is just the mod list so it can be easily accessed on the page.

Until you start your help thread, I think I'll just write this here:

GameFile8=BT_Whitewolf_2_0.esm
GameFile65=BT_Whitewolf_2_0.esp

You must choose one of them, not both.

If I find anything else, I'll add it.

Logo, thank you! I thought the ESP was reliant on the ESM, like the ESM is just a source file and the ESP calls it into action. I'll disable the ESP and see what happens.

GameFile182=Pegas Horse Ranch v3.1.esp

Same as the other, esm or esp.

@Wiz: Yeah the gamesas logo, I recorded it from the game and the game's vid is 640x480 so blowing that up to 1080x1920 does indeed make it look like crap, ha! Same with the opening cutscene unfortunately.

@Cabron: Those are just free wallpapers you can download, I did not make them, figured they'd be nice and nostalgic for people, hehe!

PS: New vids are up!

I'd guess that has something to do with VGreetings conflicting with.... something else (not sure what though to be honest :huh: )? Have you tried running your load order through http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1083121-relz-mlox-a-tool-for-anolyzing-and-sorting-your-load-order/page__hl__mlox to see if that can shed any light on things?

Hiya triffid, yes the good lads in the modding forum pointed me to MLOX (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1094715-need-help-with-modded-mw-errors/) but after I went through it's conflict list and fixed most everything it wanted me to the game is now completely broken, ha! It also never solved the compileandrun error but I had thought that either vgreetings or LGNPC was the culprit (and that even turning those off wouldn't fix it) so I'll be doing a clean dual install so I always have a clean copy to revert back to. Should be a couple of days and I'll get back to recording.

The show must go on!

Hey all, so I am back in business, with a streamlined and revised load order, and chapter 3 is on its way!

Special thanks to John.Moonsugar, Fliggerty, Hrnchamd and Neko (Emma's ES forums) for all the help in getting this LP back on its feet! They got a mention in chapter 3 part 1!

Have you seen Hippocat's version of "Let's Play Morrowind"? It's unique because he has absolutely no mods whatsoever. Now how many people can say they play Morrowind with zero mods?

Well, sure, you could play with no mods... but the right mods are just so much fun!

Actually most Morrowind LPs (that I've seen) play without mods, I haven't seen another that does to this extent. A few mod walkthroughs here and there. Veriax and Gixg17 are probably the two best non-modded LPs of MW (of which there are many). Veriax's is great because it's interactive, ie: every week he randomly chooses a suggestion on what to do next and Gix is great because he is COMPLETELY green and has never played it before: it's loads of fun watching him go through the game for the first time. Haven't seen Hippocat's but I'll check it out! The more the merrier!

I just watched through the whole of chapter 1 and liked the concept, as this is the first i have seen that looks and feels ' heavily modded' as opposed to others which feature just a few mods, anyway its a great way to showcase some of the great works the community has put together over the years.

I have one idea you might like to consider, not a request or anything just something i would like to see at some point, that is to edit each chapter down to say 10 minutes of highlights showing your adventures in a non-stop action/dramatic sort of way , with running commentary to match. Then at some point in the future when you have a set of highlights from several chapters you can join them together to give us Morrowind the action picture :). just a thought .

I have thoroughly enjoyed your play through so far. It is great to see one,finally, that is heavily modded and shows a more "up to date" version of Morrowind. I could not bring myself to watch more then a few episodes of the un-modded play throughs knowing what is currently available for Morrowind. I will certainly be checking out any future chapters.

The only thing that I don't like is that your game is way to bright and clean for my tastes. I like my game to be much darker and grittier but thats just my opinion. :) Perhaps at some point I will have to make my own "Lets Play Morrowind: Heavily Modded."

Thanks for the entertainment. Keep at it if you will. :foodndrink:
