I don't think you need permission to make a Let's Play video.

When you get the game start recording and add a bit of commentary and such and play.

Then post on youtube.

Simple.

Um, you don't need "permission" to upload video game videos to youtube.
That has never been the case, so I don't really see what you're talking about.

Ok there are a bunch of movies on youtube called "Let's Play " Where basically a person or group of people play a game and provide live commentary on it while they film. Rock* went and removed Let's Play videos of GTA4 and RDR for a long time before allowing people to post them.

I think BGS will be cool about it, I plan on doing it from Day One, I'll just wait to upload them or get permission if they get removed.

If you want to watch some of these, go to Youtube and search for TheKholdOne or Tatsudoshi, They both do a lot of this kind of stuff. Tatsu is doing a Let's Play of Bioshock 2 and Khold is doing a series called "[censored] This Game: Sonic 3d Blast"

Unless it says so in the contract, but lulz, that would be silly.

If it actually says so in the contract for Oblivion, then show me.

How were you able to understand any of it? O.O"...
You'll do fine reading the Dragon letters on the walls of the ruins in Skyrim...

I'm afraid I'm not following. Was there a time Beth didn't allow user vids before big boys in the press posted "exclusives"?

No, but some companies will go to great lengths to prevent their content (or videos of their content) from being posted on YouTube (kind of like how Prince won't allow his music on the internet).

Bethesda does not have a history of having user content removed, so I doubt anyone needs to worry about this.

As long as it doesn't make any bit of sense, I can make sense out of it. Its like magic.

No, there hasn't. You could post lets play videos from Oblivion the day it came out. I really have no clue what the OP is talking about.

Thanks for the clarification mt_pelion. Bethesda is great in many ways compared to those control freaks in the industry. :tes:

It has happened before with other games. There was a certain period of time where no one could post videos of Metal Gear Solid 4 that spoiled the plot at all.

Regardless, it's silly to do a Let's Play series of a game the second it comes out. Enjoy it on your own and make people go buy it if they want to see it! Anyone curious about gameplay will look for a gameplay video, not a Let's Play.

Rockstar was pretty uptight about it for a little while, that is the only one I can think of who has done it. I know Zenimax has had a few copies of exclusive Podcasts and trailers removed from Youtube about Skyrim but that is a different matter.

I've watched quite a few "Let's Play" videos and never had a problem finding a game. ALL of TES games have "Let's Play" series posted by numerous people. I was watching a Morrowind one last night with the Morrowind Overhaul-Graphics and Sound mod.

It's your personal opinion that a Let's Play when a game first comes out is silly. I disagree.
I also disagree that "no one would look for a Let's Play when a game comes out", I did when Crysis 2 comes out. Trailers = not real, Let's Play = the actual game. I'd like to get good evidence of a game being good before I buy it, so I intently look for LP's when I want to buy a game.

Well, that's nothing like posting actual footage you record yourself from your legally purchased game copy. As long as it's intended for personal use, and you don't benefit from Bethesda's IP (with advertisemants in your YouTube channel or whatever) you should be okay.

I agree, plus if you watch the right people they can be very entertaining. I never though I would sit and watch someone play through ALL of RE5 but the right series makes it worth it.

Edit: I probably won't upload my LP for a month or so, or at least until I see people uploading their own. Just a tip for people: If you use Fraps and record your voice with the game (you have to change some microphone settings in Control Panel), record in hour long sessions, then save and exit, turn off and restart the recording to prevent laggy dialog. Or just have a beastmode sound card.

And if you want to do it but play on Console, buy a Dazzle for the love of Mike. Don't just put your camera on a tripod and aim it at the TV.

Which is why I said gameplay and not trailer. When you go to a Let's Play to see a new game, do you sit there and watch the whole game from beginning to end, or do you just pick a random video? I pick a random video because why watch the whole thing if I'm going to play it myself. So what's the point of doing the whole game right as it comes out? I doubt it would be helpful since the player would be going through for the first time, fumbling through everything, and it certainly wouldn't be informative. There are reasons a lot of organized Let's Players--like on Something Awful where the trend started--enforce rules of waiting a certain period of time before making a series for new games.

As others have stated in this thread after me, people do look up LP's before they buy games to get a feel of them. It's a pretty common thing.
Don't really know what else to say bud. It's very useful, and I hope someone does an LP of Skyrim when it comes out. Because after I get done with my first 24 hour gaming session of Skyrim on 11-11-11, I'll probably get on youtube to see others experiences.
