Let's raise our spirits by thinking of quest ideas :)

Okay, sometimes I see the forums a bit gloomy, or angry. I've thought we could avoid this by thinking of small little ways to improve the game, and ideas for the quests that Bethesda will make directly into the game.

I'd like to see some more intricate inter-faction quest intrigue. We had a little of that in Morrowind and more of it in Daggerfall (Kill a high-ranking mage in the Mages Guild for the Dark Brotherhood, choose whether to return a wizard's research notes to the Mages Guild as ordered or give them to the Dark Brotherhood on pain of death, etc.)

Like perhaps having to act as a double agent for one side of the civil war, but then having the option to actually be on the other one's side and become a triple agent. Stuff like that.

I would also like to see many faction quests upped in their "epicness." This reminds me of Daggerfall (especially with the CompUSA patch). Example: In Daggerfall, the Mages Guild could give you a quest to eliminate a renegade mage. Simple enough, right? Not so simple when the renegade ends up not being as evil as made out to be, and gives you an offer to fool the Guild and join him in his unsanctioned magic. Or when the Mages Guild wants you to retrieve a scholar's research. Simple, right? Until the Dark Brotherhood sends you a letter telling you you ought to give THEM the notes, or the wrath of Mephala will fall down on the player's head.

In short I'd really just like the side faction quests to be a little more interesting. Throw in a twist or two to spice up the plot, make the quest optionally longer, or give the player more than one choice about how to finish a quest. Make me care about the factions and side quests more than just as a way to gain more exp to better tackle the main quest.

A friendly lich!

Think about it: why are all necromancers and subjects of necromancy deranged and/or evil? Why not a friendly one who just didn't see anything wrong with defiling the dead? Then he ascended, and is being terrorized in his undeath by the Mages' Guild, who constantly send assassins (or heroes, in their eyes) to re-kill him. You're tasked with faking his demise, or finding him a safe place, or dealing w/ the mages, etc.

There definitely needs to be a quest about a serial killer loose in Skyrim.

Thought process of Skyrim pessimists.

Good A + Bad B + ? C = ? D
C must be bad, because B was, therefore D will svck

Thought process of Proditus.

We play a wonderfully made game and grin at the thought of the silly suggestions we made while we waited. The Speculation Game is fun, mate! You should play it sometime.

I want a whodunnit quest for the dark brotherhood..

Nothing made me laugh more than killing someone and seeing the reactions of everyone, and then turning everyone on each other... only to restart and do it another way.

How about a really big assassin quest where you have to kill someone important like the leader of a city or something.

I'd like quest that require you to work alongside an npc. I've had this idea for awhile now so here it goes

You've been contracted by the dark brotherhood to kill the counts mage who always resides in his quarters deep within the castle. You are to be assisted by a shadowscale. The shadowscale will walk into the castle and stab the count's bodyguard with a paralysing blade ( so that he doesn't die) and then run out of the castle bringing all the castle's guards along with him. You are underneath the bridge to the castle (think the bridge to skingrad only with a river below it) and as the shadowscale runs away he jumps off the bridge cast an invisibility spell and dives into the river onto the shore. The guards give chase and as they run away you sneak up the bridge and into the castle. The count has been evacuated on a carriage and the rest of the servants have been moved to the barracks protected by the now mobile bodyguard. You have two hours to find and kill the mage. From there i don't know how it goes but the main thing that stuck in my mind was the argonian jumping off the bridge casting an invisibility spell as he dives into the river.

You know I have always liked to see a quest based around something similar to Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman or something like that. Your character is called to a small town to investigate a bunch of murders that have happened in the area only to hear a bunch of wild stories about a headless horseman (or Werewolves, Dracula, Bobby Kotick, take your pic) from some rather superstitious townsfolk. However upon investigating the murders and having a near death experience with the horseman you find out that the rumours are in fact true and are then tasked with finding a way to end the curse. The quest would involve the player investigating the curse by day but dont get caught outside the city walls at night as that is when the horseman comes out to hunt.

Not sure if such a quest would fit in Skyrim with the Norse theme and all (perhaps if it were werewolves) but still it would be interesting to see.

"Whodunit?" and "Paranoia" are my all-time favorite quests out of any RPG I've ever played.

I just hope there are a few quests in Skyrim that rise to that level of brilliant writing and great voice acting.

And I concur with Cosamar that it would be great to see more quests relating to factions in conflict with one another. It's much more memorable when the PC has to make a difficult choice between which faction to support, losing the opportunity for additional quests and unique rewards provided by the opposing faction.

I want all crime to be like a whodunnit thing. Imagine being in a town of 50 and the mayor dies, everyone would really act like that quest, however with Oblivion logic the psychic guards would come running and tell the killer: "STOP, you've violated the law, pay the court a fine and serve your sentence. You stolen goods are now FORFEIT!" Speaking of courts, courts would make whodunnits even better. Note that I would like it if this was implemented, but I would not care if it was not.

I want to see you come across a settlement under attack by raiders and you help join in but then they retreat and you have afew objectives to prepare the town with weapons and fortifications then you and the NPC' s of the town defend the town from a mini army of raiders. Kind of like the first mission in NV only Skyrim style and a larger scale fight

I'd like to see a twist in the story of the Dragonborn narrative that offers the following plot or something close:

In the middle of the storyline you enter a city and hear tales of a dragon being captured in a cave nearby. You follow the crowds and discover a horde of men holding a dragon captive, how they caught it is a story subject to many versions of the same thread. And they are torturing the dragon for sport. Its cries are resounding. For the first time in your epic quest to kill all the dragons, you are faced with feeling remorse for this one dragon. Its inhumane what they're doing, and its even (your internal sense tells you) a bit dangerous, since if this got out to the dragons, they would all descend upon this town and rain fire until nothing of it remained. You are able to just barely talk some sense into them, and convince them to let you finish the dragon off. They leave and you are alone. The dragon has a moment to speak with you in its weakened, battered state, and you learn that its own kind turned against it because it's the only dragon who doesn't want to harm the humans.

The story goes on from there with many twists and turns that threaten to make you out a traitor to the dragonborn legacy as you defend this dragon. And for a time, you are allies, and you can summon the dragon to help you once a week or something and it teaches you something special for helping it. But then comes a very tough decision needing to be made the particulars I leave unknown because otherwise if I tell it all here why would they ever use the idea, but let's just say based on your actions, the story can go one of two ways with the dragon remaining your friend, or going back over to the other side. That much would be obvious anyway. Part of the problem might be some kind of rule in the dragonborn legacy that stipulates that you cannot Ascend unless all the dragons are gone, so you have to also choose between power and friendship, or friendship & loyalty, or the safety of the people of Tamriel.

I want a quest where you help build/rebuild a town. Much like the quest in oblivion east of the impereal city. Maybe you could come across a town that's been burned during a civil war battle (remember all the burned houses in oblivion, I always wished I could have bought and repaired them) and some of the residents are still living in their crumbling homes. Maybe some of the buildings are burnt to the ground (think Kvtach is the fire had fineally died) and you can invest money to help rebuild or go and gather lumber, or maybe ask the nearist city for aid. It would also be cool if you were given a home (preferably the biggest/nicest one in town) that would be unique and only offered if you help the town. Quests like this are in several game series like fable and assassians creed. I makes me feel like I'm affecting the world, like things in the world are physicaly changing because of my choices. I want to make it clear that I don't like the idea of a (sims) town, I don't think we should actually build the town or choose everything about. I like the sims for what it is, but that just doesn't fit with TES. I prefer the way it was done in assassians creed 2...but that's just me. Anyone else like this idea?

I agree that the "whodunnit" quest for DB was one of the most fun. I loved getting everyone to turn on eachother. I saved the young nobleman and the dark elf girl for last since she was sweet on him...he killed her and then realized it was me! Pricless.

@OP:
I can't think of anything yet....but it's a nice change to see something positive.
I think some people need cheering up.
I can get frustrated with some comments i read, because i have great excitement for this game.
Some people are negative because they care for the game too,but i think some comments are a bit too over the top.
But that's just my view, but everyone's view counts, not just mine,it's what makes the forums interesting, evryone is different.
There are times i've typed something i shouldn't,but it's just how we are sometimes.
I post a quest idea,if i think it's ok,but for now my mind is blank.

The serial killer idea is great! It would be cool if it turned out to be the leader of a guild or maybe the ruler of a city. It should be a major NPC in the game.

Damn, what a great idea! It really inspired me. Another way to help the town would be as a celebrity influence, since you are the Dragonborn. You could do public speaking engagements where you talk victoriously about the changes coming to the town. You could meet with other cities and help negotiate trade to and from the towns to boost its economy (again, all roleplaying and some quests you have to do to win the help of each town.) And then ....

What would make it even better would be a crisis about that time. Since the player is doing a good deed, real life says there is always someone around to spoil it for you. So about the time the great work is really beginning on it, some Outlaw (a politician with another agenda like leveling the town to make a coal mining operation cause the land is built over some coal mines) rolls into town and begins to tinker with your good deed, paint you in a negative light, and you have to do damage control, fight for what you started, and stick in there with it, to overcome the battle.

In the end, and with a lot of secret wars that hopefully the town never sees come to light, you win back the town you were building AND are the one who gets to tell the town they are sitting on top of a major commodity (untapped Coal Mines) which will help to make the town a very wealthy city practically overnight.

Sorry if I got carried away there, man, but I really love this plot idea!

A young bosmer sharpshooter is trying to prevent the imperial Beth Thesda from releasing the Sixth Elder Scroll to the public. Meeting up with him he tells you that the Sixth Elder Scroll is garbage compared to the story of the 4th Fall Out of a great war that he had a vision of. Its up to you to either end his madness or help him.

I'd like to see quests available under certain circumstances from normally hostile NPCs.

For e.g.: With a high enough infamy level, marauders and bandits know well enough not to waylay you for a measly 100G. A leader may offer you a reward if you help them attack caravans or even lay siege to a settlement.

I'd like to see self driven quests for power.
E.g.: You join a Local Lords army. Work for him and eventually rise to a position of some power. You systematically eliminate all your rivals and set yourself up as the 2nd highest in rank. You engineer the Lord's murder and frame it on someone else. Voila! Youre rewarded with lordship over some lands and a castle (plus its services.. armorer, stable, etc...) Doubly fun if you can force his wife to marry you after you've killed her husband. Triply fun if you can persuade her into helping you commit the deed and later backstab her.

Ah! No! I don't. One, you're supposed to be the only one who can (successfully) fight dragons. Two, dragons are the bad guys. No exceptions. They work for the world-eater. Three, you're supposed to get dragon shouts from ruins laying about (as far as I know). Bob, the friendly, weakly, summonable dragons just cannot be.
