I agree that scrapping isn't going to give me all that much in the way of raw materials comparatively speaking, but, meh...
I hesitate to start yet another new build though, but, that may be my only option at this point.

If you never pick the lock on the one door, and leave the chains on the other door, there's only ONE entrance / exit, along the shoreline. Of course, when your settlers Spidey-Sense bad guys on the city-side of the settlement, they all rush through that one door and then run around the block to get to the bad guys.
The thought has crossed my mind, OP, but I definitely don't want to kill all of my settlers. And I am very attached to my Olivia - she has a heart of gold and would never do something like that anyway.
I love the settlement building and am hopeful with the latest patch that it can be much better. I've seen some of the improvements they've made and it really helps. What I would really like, is to be able to scrap some of the partially destroyed buildings on the properties, or at least be able to fix the roofs.
The idea of making a pent house in the over pass by Finch Farm is fantastic! I am definitely going to try this.
As I understand it, you have to be within three "squares" of a settlement for the Minutemen to show up. I got them to show up once just outside Finch Farm. Everywhere else that the extra support would have come in handy I was either too far away or just didn't even think about it.
The trick with the artillery, aside from being in range for it, is to have enough stealth skill to sneak in and toss your smoke grenade. If it works, it does a really good job of softening up the target. Trouble is that if you're detected then the enemy follows you out with a good chance of putting them outside the strike zone.
I don't like your post, so I'm going to call you a troll and get the entire thread locked even though nobody else is being unreasonable.
I really, really like this idea. I think I currently have 4 or 5 beacons. Time to get scrapping or storing I think
Honestly, the only settlement I'm happy with is Sanctuary. No wonder they've had 90-95% happiness for ages.
*Let's scrap everything and begin again*
that's what me and Piper need to do..
I brought her along to 'reset' a few settlements...she hated every minute of it..I thought she was on board with cleansing the commonwealth..who knew she didn't like the murdering of settlers..
I don't think she's into me anymore...
If you feel like scrapping everything, my advice would be: DON'T!
Just create a sub-directory in your C:\Users\Seamus\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 directory and move your save files there. Maybe use a compression app to archive most of them . . . leave the first and last couple that you have out of the archive . . . start over and do it differently.
Similar here, except I would tabulate mine like this:
1st: ~5 hours-> getting the feel for the controls and combat
2nd: ~15 hours-> getting a feel for the role that interactions, perks, specials and difficulty have in the game
3rd: ~50 hours-> true attempt at a DiD playthrough on Normal, died at about level 20. Learned much about pushing the envelope "too far"
4th ~300 hours ballpark -> a nearly successful DiD playthrough (only one death of slightly debatable 'validity') on Normal. Made it to level 74 and it got boring, but got into all the factions enough to see what they are all about, and quite far in a couple of them
5th through present (8th or 9th?) ~10 to 50 hours each -> various haphazard explorations of highly specialized, theorycrafted, evil and roleplayed "min-max" and modded playthroughs.
In my latest play, I've died a couple times, as I was exploring the Hard and Very Hard difficulties (and still do not like them) but have continued to play the character up to about level 28. No sneak, no rifleman, or any other damage boosting perks (but crafting) and it is still getting easier and easier as I level.
In this one I have yet to speak to Preston or kill the Deathclaw and may never do it. I've managed to get Piper, Cait and Strong to max affinity and now working on Codsworth. Mainly just fiddling with the non-faction quests.
I have over 800 settlers spread around the map.
They are already doing a great job of scrapping resources.
What i am doing at the moment is going around making renovations.
I am going to drop the defences to bare minimum, getting rid of lasers and missile turrets.
Also drop food production to the bare minimum and put even more settlers on scrapping duty.
Without turrets I may get an opportunity to join in battle again without the risk of being damaged by my own defences.
I had done many times, but the cow of Carla miraculous always end on my new building.
Tip for everyone:
Despite how many people think you need to use the stairs to stack foundations, you actually do not need to use them. Instead, you can simply use the doubled floor/ceiling piece beside the foundation pieces in the list. Much cheaper on resources and works just as well if not better than the full stairs piece.
I'm not touching the minuteman stuff until I'm ready to beat the game. Settlement defending is annoying. I'm not going to stop whatever I'm doing to help a bunch of people with armor, mini guns, traps and turrets everywhere. Taking out raiders should be a cake walk for them.
It got so annoying for me that I now use the No More Attacks on Settlements mod and don't worry about it anymore. While the settlement idea is a really good one, its kind of sad that you need about 6 or 7 mods to make it really great, and more fun then annoying.
I'm just happy I never got into that settlement crap at all. Best gaming decision I made in FO4.
