I feel like the events of post Oblivion lore have really clouded our views on the Altmer. In my opinion, they always been the least appreciated race, even before the Thalmor controversies. For a Mage, most people go Breton for the arguably better bonuses, and before Skyrim, the High Elves always seemed to have weaknesses that made Bretons the obvious choice.

For one who is new to the series, it easy to think that the High Elves are the cruel, evil ones instead of the Thalmor. No-one has love for the Altmer, especially since Skyrim.

I made a thread a while ago on race choices, and the Altmer came last by a running mile. So, who wants to show the High Elves some love? And give reasons as to why those of us who dislike the Altmer should show them love.

One of my favorite characters is an altmer, many of them may be arrogant, but it's part of their charm. Most of them aren't out to get Talos worshippers. If you are one who hates altmer I suggest you talk to some of the more friendly of their kind: Calcelmo, Runil, Faralda, Legate Fasendil, Quaranir, etc. Possible Dawnguard spoiler

Sure Altmer had more weaknesses in Oblivion but they also possessed the greater magical strength which is why an Altmer was one of my main characters in OB (a Redguard warrior was the other).

It's funny as I never cared for Nords in Oblivion even though Bruma was one of my favorite towns yet now in Skyrim Nords are one of the my favorite races and Altmer have taken a dive down on my list.

Showing high elves some love? Most of those yellow skinned knife-ears are nothing but uptight idiots. Take one of the owners of radiant raiment for example. She never lives long enough after my first visit to solitude on a new char.

Then there's every thalmor all of which are altmer.

Then there's Niranye and Faralda!

...and don't forget Calcelmo and Runil. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Runil is the coolest High Elf you can ever meet and Calcelmo isn't that bad either.

I know what you mean, OP. Not all Altmer are uptight pricks. But, I don't know, I don't see myself playing them. They're just too "meh" for me, I guess

I have always had a soft spot for the Altmer, they are a superior race, and have much to crow about.

I just wish they were a bit more humble about it.

As Micanis noted, the female Altmer are often easy on the eye, but you can bet they know it too!

There are two Altmer women at the College of Winterhold who are both equally attractive, (to my human eyes) and very competitive toward each other.

I think they dislike each other because that is their custom.

The Thalmor on the other hand are a different prospect altogether.

I've never really much for playing anything other than a Nord. But I just started a new playthrough where my character is possessed by Queen Potema. Being that it's a heavily magic oriented RP, what better rave than an Altmer?

The only Altmer i like is Niranye.

I'm actually doing a female Altmer playthrough, my first mage character in the whole series, actually. The rest were warriors using various weapons.

I do like Altmers. :] The non-Thalmor types, they're cool.

My current character is a high-elf. A spellsword vampire, specialising in frost magic and is level 26. She is quite the looker as well, though its not always apparent under her glass armour set. Currently exploring Blackreach with Serana in the search for the elusive Elder Scroll.

Not all WWII Germans were brainwashed Nazi followers. Some even tried to blow him up! So of course not all Altmer are Thalmor fanatics.

I might have to look into it, since I'm thinking of being a "pure" mage character sometime soon. And I've already played as a Breton, to Altmer seems to be the logical choice.

I must say that I don't like the "sharp" physical appearence of Altmer though, especially in their faces. Their facial expression is often too sharp and "pointy" for my tastes, if you get my meaning. But I suppose I can round and smoothen it a little in character creation. At least I hope so
