Let's switch things up

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:43 pm

A little introduction:

They started releasing information again last week Thursday with a new Dev Diary and the Choir of guns video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQ7L6T_gZFc
Assuming they continue the flow of information like last time, we should be seeing the next piece of info today around 3-4 PM GMT. It's an educated guess based on past experiences with their Dev Diaries. (Don't be disappointed if I'm wrong)

But, let's switch things up for now.

I want to know what kind of player you are and/or which traits you have as player. I'll give some examples:

Usefull Types:

- The Commander:
He knows everything that's happening, and commands people do certain actions. He is mostly a person who can influence other people to do what he says.
- The Strategist:
An important player for every team. He comes up with strategies, looks for things to trick enemies and works closely together with the Commander.
- The Scout:
A Light player who prefers Speed over Power. Constantly on the move, informing the team of the enemies positions and defences.
- The Supporter:
A valuable player that will mostly be a high priority target because he keeps his team going. He can achieve this by buffing or aiding teammates in any way.
- The Soldier:
Not the class, but the guy who blindly follows the orders of The Commander, trusting is his knowledge.
- The Wraith:
Named after the best Spy of all times. He will disrupt enemy defences, spot landmines and hacks command posts.
- The Engineer:
Not the class, but they guy who completes the main objectives. He blows things up, fixes others or hacks objectives.
- The Shield:
Not the Archetype, but he who soaks up damage. Mostly a heavy guy with buffed health, preferably a soldier equiped with the shielding ability.
- The Crowd Control:
He does not do major damage to single targets, but tries to hit as many enemies as possible with one shot. Preferably equiped with a nade launcher or any kind of explosives.
- The Firepower:
He seriously packs a punch. All he does is shooting, mainly around the frontlines or defending core objectives.
- The Assassin:
Closely related to the Wraith. The assassin focusses on taking out priority targets, preferably with his knife.
- The Rusher:
A Light guy who always tries to get to the objectives before the enemy does.
- The Harasser:
Someone who pokes in and out of cover to get a few shots on enemies and then disappears. He does not focus on finishing enemies off, he only damages them.
- The Fortress:
Not the Archetype. The Fortress is a strong defensive unit who is great at covering and surpressing fire. A minigun does great on this guy.
- The Finisher:
Focuses on killing incapacitated enemies, rather then the ones who are still running around.
- The Immortal:
Always around on the battlefield. He never seems to die and helps the team out.
- The Pusher:
He tries to push the enemies back to a certain point, so that his teammates can easily complete the objective
- The Distraction:
Uses his lack of skill/talent to benefit the team by making sure that the enemy is shooting him and not more skilled players.
- The Napalm:
You are the Pyro, or the Explosives Expert. If theres something to blow up or burn, you're gonna do it and no one is going to stop you.

Useless Types:
(Note: What follows is just a part I made up for fun):

- The Noob:
Someone without map awareness, can't kill a single enemy, fails to do pretty much anything and is probably new.
- The EGO:
Thinks he's the best, trying to get as much experience every match, without thinking about the team.
- The Rater:
Focuses on KDR and is thus useless for this game.
- The Hacker:
Hacks the game to be the "best" while he's obviously lacking skill to play the game.
- The Cheater:
Probably also a hacker. Also lacks skill to play the game.
- The SMARTer:
The only thing he cares about are UBERNINJAPARKOUR moves. He doesn't contribute to the team in any way.
- The Screecher:
He's the guy that causes severe ear damage by screeching into his microphone.
- The Betrayer:
Teamkills because that's the only way he can get attention.
- The Ragequitter:
Quits because he rages due to several random reasons like getting killed or killstealed.
- The Cheese:
He only uses cheaps tactics to get what he wants. Dropshotting, Bunnyhopping,...
- The Complainer:
Always complains when he dies. It's never his fault, it was because of the LAG, the teammate who runs in the way, ...
- The Pro:
Thinks he's the one guy who can change everything. Everyone else is a noob (See above) or has luck when killing him.
- The Annoyer:
Closely related to the Screecher.
He uses his microphone to annoy people and calling names.
- The Coward:
Always runs away from battles to heal himself.

That's all I can make up for now. So tell me forum, what kind of player are you? *RWJ Spoof*

Awesome descriptions of glasses and very true with most online fps games. i like to think im the firepower but my team mates may disagree

- The Firepower:
He seriously packs a punch. All he does is shooting, mainly around the frontlines or defending core objectives.

my personal favourite term
E-PEEN "internet slang for ego, pride, or attitude in the virtual world. long standing net definition for the age old "bigger [censored]" arguement."

A mixture of The Fortress, The Firepower, and The Shield.
Always. Every game I get a chance to play a guy like this in, I do.

Plus, I'm like that IRL. I hate it when people hide behind me, but it gets the job done.... sometimes.

im a little bit of everything but more of:

- The Commander: He knows everything that's happening, and commands people do certain actions. He is mostly a person who can influence other people to do what he says.

- The Engineer:Not the class, but they guy who completes the main objectives. He blows things up, fixes others or hacks objectives.

- The Supporter: A valuable player that will mostly be a high priority target because he keeps his team going. He can achieve this by buffing or aiding teammates in any way.

- The Immortal:Always around on the battlefield. He never seems to die and helps the team out.

i know whats going on and like to coordinate my team but at the same time i get things done, i take out the objectives and get us through, i also help with the front lines by backing people up and staying alive long enough to keep the team on there feet.

The only time i got to do any of this was in a battlefield game, mostly BC2 and KILLZONE2.

scout, commander

knowing where the defense is helps the offense get around them without a need for fighting...IRL soldiers have family's. on both sides.

back in chromehounds i played pretty much those two roles. i ran a lightweight soldier scout combo which i'd rush out to catch combas towers to establish comms. i'd find the enemy hounds and relay co-ordinates to the artillery hounds and only engage distracted enemies using speed and maneuverability to stay behind their guns. crippling their legs and finally destroying their cockpits.

then the ddi players discovered you could mount four artillery cannons and use them as a huge AoE shotgun as friendly fire was mitigated enough to prevent that being suicidal, they completely steamrolled the game and made it unbearable. so i quit.

hopefully snipers wont be the problem i envisage they'll become.

but this game has a commander who does that built into it. so scoutting using smart moves, something i'll be practising to do manual rather than the smart button to get mah speed up. possibly as an operative or engineer so i can open those pathways up and get people ahead faster.

The Built-in commander doesn't really say what to do, he's more an announcer. They're both usefull when playing with friends or in competitive gaming. You need players like that ^^

I am probably these two with abit of The Finisher, since I like to play a speedy type with a sniper, so I can recon the area quickly and pick off any targets I see

#EDIT# Oh yeah, and I'll will probably go as a engineer so I can place turrets on high ground for support to my team

Based on my previous gaming-experience, I'd combine the following ones:

The Commander, because I tend to tell the right people what to do instead of doing it myself and possibly failing at it.
The Scout, because I like to run&gun, regardless of how effective I am with it.
The Harasser, because my KDR is not so important to me. If the enemy follows me, he's distracted, which is usually a good thing.
The SMARTer, see "The Scout".
The Ragequitter, because I ragequit if things annoy me too much. Even when playing with people I know.

Added to the list.

If you can come up with a good and unique description of The Revoluzzer, then I'll add you to the list as well. ;)

Is "awesome" a good and unique description?

- The Revoluzzer:
Fighting in the same manner as everyone else is not his style. Take a different route, sport a different gun, do not make use of common tactics. It's not about being pro, it's about being different.

Not sure wether this is a pro, or a noob type, though.

I'm not particularly like all of these every game, but that's pretty much what I do in general. I guess I'm The Syithe (an older screenname)

Well, I always tell my friend that it's not that good to be that different (talent-wise, gear-wise, and all)

So.. It depends on what you're doing different :P

Well I do most of these.

- The Commander: I can be if people have the sense to listen

- The Strategist: Preferable to the commander but same problem.

- The Scout:
Comes with the job of hanging out behind enemy lines.

- The Wraith:/ - The Assassin: Nuff said

- The Rusher: All your CP's will be belonging to me, then firewalled :flamethrower:

- The Harasser: All part of the modus operendi

- The Finisher: While flanking

- The Immortal: Occasionally

-The Distraction: Of the skilled variety.

I am the god**** Wraith :batman: Accept no substitutes!

my list, depending on situation. i put "the pro" in it, because i'm a liar and i have to keep up appearances of being truthfull.
i'm starting to hate myself for it, but since i got into the noob-crowd of mw2 i started to feel so superior...

anyways, as i said, it all depends on situation:
i'm mainly a strategist outside of the game=>can't get on the game? think of strategies to abuse weakpoints, break bottlenecks, etcetera.
soldier when i'm absolutely sure the commander is capable and does indeed know best.
the shield whenever a objective is hard to complete, i'll soak up the damage for the guy trying to do it
the firepower, standard. i'm always going for dps in the past one and a half year :toughninja:
the rusher when i'm not sure if my team is going for the objectives. non-stop objective rushing, making sure i take out at least one enemy each rush, trying new paths, tactics, hoping my team will eventually notice my efforts and join in.

Indeed. Rambo medics were the annoyance of public gaming. They were mostly skilled shooters, capable of killing multiple enemies in a row, carrying the team.
It's generally used as a negative term, because most of them only cared about killing, KDR and they only healed themselves.

I mainly try to focus on where I am most valuable - playing Medic, but I don't just blindly choose Medic every match and stick wth it. After I choose my team, I check to see how many of each class we have.

- If we 0-1 Medics, I will play Medic.
- If we have 2 medics, depending on good they are and/or how quickly our team keeps dying, I still may play Medic.
- If we have 3-more, I consider this a good amount of Medics, but still, varying factors apply and I may or may not go Medic.

So when I play Medic, I am The Supporter. When I'm not playing Medic, regardless what class it is, I am The Engineer. And seeing how I enjoy playing supportive roles, and The Shield and The Fortress have a supportive/defensive nature to them, I incorporate them into my playstyle as well. I am actually planning on building a Soldier that specializes in support and defense.
