I have a horse mod request. A quick dismount function.

(Senario) I'm riding though a lovely field of flowers enjoying the moruning sun. When a wolf sneaks up (bettermusicmod) and starts biting my mounts butt.

I slowly dismount (lalalal) and proceed to get attacked from behind and die at my mounts feet. (dukes geometery mod). Oh how nice it would be to be able to Leap from my horse wipping out my blade and spank the wolf for disturbing my bliss.

This obviously fits in the 'just an idea' category, because I haven't put much thought into how it could be implemented, but...
One thing I've always thought was lacking in the game (with regard to horses and realism) is that the stables have little real function other than to sell horses, and in one case, to give away horse armor. After you buy your horse (and I only buy one per character/game), they're nothing but a free parking lot... nothing to see here folks! ... when realistically, it costs money to feed and maintain horses. There aren't any farriers, either--when the horses very obviously wear shoes. Surely the stables would have to charge for their services, and would be more than willing to tap into the overabundance of money in the game... keeping horses is a business, after all. An adventurer's horse should be kept fit, with its equipment in good condition--swords and armor wear down, why not saddles?; not to mention those live in town have to have someplace to house their horses when they're not using them. And I suppose those that don't have money enough to put their horses up would probably end up leaving them at a camp outside the city (and risk having them stolen).

I'm not sure if this sort of thing would rightfully be called part of an Economic overhaul or a fatigue mod (I've just been playing Betrayal at Krondor, where the quality of rest depends on where you sleep, so I suppose it could), or should be something else entirely. But with OBSE and all the awesome scripters onboard these days ... any thoughts on whether or not this kind of mod would be possible?

Just a quote regarding compatibilty from my RELz topic:
I have checked the following mods for conflicts. Everything looks peachy, none of these mods replace the default Oblivion meshes. All use an esp file. Likewise my mod will have no effect on these mods for the same reason. They should be fine. :)

Now not only you can have Slof's horses for every mod that adds horses, but you can remove Ulrim's mod Tamriel Travellers Horse Retexture (save a slot)
However, I think you need the newest mart's monster Mods_Slofs Horses.esp as it adds to the game both Solf's Horses 2.0 and the Slof's Extra Horses pack.
besides, if you play Bartholm or Aesgaard 2 and so on, now their horses will be Slof horses!
How about that? :D

One would think with this being a role-playing game, there are enough monks, pilgrims and ambulants out there who would ride a humble donkey or mule rather than a war horse...

On page 1 in the Controls section the first listed mod (Mounted Combat OBSE - link included there) does to great extend what you just want.
Install, pres W and enjoy the ride.

Edit: good news for donkey riders:
1. Mondstein made http://www.mediafire.com/?0ngjzjqznyl which you can find at Weynon Priory. After you've installed the mod :D. Thanks, Mondstein!
2. Mr. Siika has made ridable donke available in his mod mod Castle Seaview.
3. Corepc took note of the fact that the MMM donkeys have the horseshoe icon but lack the idle animation allowing us to ride them. But he says: No saddles, you will have to suffer a bumpy ride :D

I like horses. A lot.

There aren't many sights sadder than a dead horse or a horse staying next to their slain riders...
Tried to resurrect - usually they stay down on the ground...

My paint horse on xbox360 died and i dno why but i really felt a bit sad knewing i could'nt ressurect on xbox (only with the staff of worms i think but i did'nt have) Then about 2 minutes later i remember i had an autosave and then i reloaded my game to avoid the enemies that killed my horse and i felt happy again. :lol: P.S I have oblivion on my PC too.

Slof's Black Unicorn comes as a stand-alone mod and AFAIK she never included unicorns in her Slofs Horses Base or Slofs Horses Exrta Pack. First post has link to get the unicorn.

Deadly Reflex 4 (2008) included horse combat, so I guess that would be the newest. But note that the mounted combat portion of Deadly Reflex was disabled in v.5, with promises that it will be re-enabled in v.6 when it is released... should be soon, I would hope.

Deadly Refloex is out and while still in beta state, it allows dedicated riders to enjoy horse combat and spellcasting.
