Let's talk Orcs

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:14 am

I found the MW voices appropriate, especially when they coughed. I always felt welcomed when I entered that orc home in Caldera and the first thing I heard was one making that huge cough...and also being told "Fight well!"

fixed. Orsimer doesn't mean corrupted elves, it means pariah folk. If anything, it's the dunmer who are closer to the definition of corrupted elves in their name.

thanks for the correction, but the orcs are still known as corrupted elves, oh and i would also like the orcs in skyrim to be a little less green, orcs during the day in oblivion blinded me :bonk:

Did you read anything I said? The whole pig thing is just imperial propaganda during the times before the orsimer were accepted into the empire, instead of being hunted down as monsters.

Well is there any hopes of a pig-like race in TES future ? Personally Sloads (playable some day maybe?) are the coolest thing I've seen so far. Or else if we could play as one of those man sized (at the shoulders) quadropedal khajits with battle armor kinda like that heman cat... and it could talk... Bit wood elves in two... Pounce on a flying dragon from a mountain above it and wrestle it, blood flaiing from jugglar, into a frozen lake crashing through into the friggid water in a pink froth and smoke and flames and screeching. That would pone.

The Oblivion orcs just looked [censored]. They were so much cooler in Morrowind.

I think that the orcs, should look a little more elven, considering that they are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Orsimer.
I'm not saying they should be beautiful or anything, just that they should look closer to human/elven.

I agree with everyone saying that Orcs should look more elven. Not a lot, but enough so that you can tell they were once elves, and so that Bethesda can have another relatively unique race. They obviously wanted to makes their Orcs different, but I think they need to change them some more to make them their own. Make them look a little more elven, tone down on the green (even a lighter shade than in Morrowind in my opinion), and flesh out their lore a little more.

Orcs are awesome, and they are my favorite race.

No to generic fantasy Orcs.

I love how in Elder Scrolls it's the Orcs who are some of the best smiths in the world, instead of just stupid brutes.

EDIT: Also it would be sweet lore wise if they sometimes ate their young.

The Altmer sometimes kill their young, is that close enough?

I never said we should make every elf race look the same, all I said was that Bethesda should actually mold the Orcs in their own way, since they were obviously going for a different kind of Orc. It's just my opinion pal, no reason to fling around insults.

They're called pariah folk (orsimer), not corrupted elves. The dunmer is closer to corrupted in their name than orsimer.

I think the Orsimer should be tougher looking, but not as beastial as some people seem to want them to be. They just need to be bulked up ALOT, and made a little bit less neon green, as well as given facial hair, and they'll be good.

But.. They are called corrupted elves. Sure, Orsimer means "Pariah Folk," but that doesn't change the fact that they can be referred to as corrupted elves. Just like Altmer can be called High Elves. Altmer means "Cultured People," but you don't see people calling them that, you see people calling them High Elves.

I love orcs! they're awesome! they make the best barbarian characters!
the ONLY thing that bothered be with them in OB was that they were lime-green. I mean, I'm supposed to play some kind of cursed barbaric badass "beast", not a neon light lol

I never played Orc characters in Oblivion or Morrowind, but I'd love to play a race that look a bit like this:

http://www.alicia-logic.com/capsimages/LOTR_Fell002_Orc.jpg

or this
http://rwizards.org/Applets/orc.jpg

the green skin thing seems a bit outdated

I hope the devs give them lots of dirty facial jewelry

Even though the origins of Tolkien Orcs and TES Orcs are similar (They were corrupted by an outside force), I don't find them to even be similar in any other way. Just like TES Dwarves (Dwemer) and Tolkien Dwarves have similarities, but aren't even close to the same.

Quite honestly, i feel like almost every race in oblivion (including orcs) were only physically different, but they all acted the same. orcs should be more brutish, generally a bitter, and yet strong people, and certainly less lime-green.

Also, for those who wants stereotypical orcs, quite honestly go play them in another game. If you can't respect the individuality and creativity that is present in the races of The Elder Scrolls series, then don't try and push your own opinions on it. Quite honestly, its refreshing not to have the same fantasy races copy and pasted into these games.

how to fix orc apearences to everyones taste!

orcs should either have dark green skin, or pale green skin. the skins should also apear less skin like- maybe leatherlike or orcs could have tiny bumps on them.

orcs should have baddass jewelry and tattoos- but no chains or giant rings.

orcs should only share one feature with elves- pointy ears. else their facial shape should apear human with an ape like nose. oh- and the teeth should have the lower teeth infront of the upper teeth, and there should be SMALL tusks

IMO, the depiction of orcs in Oblivion with piggish faces, tusks and bright green skin was pretty similar to what we have already seen many times over in fantasy literature, art and RPGs over the past few decades.

I have not gotten very far yet in my Morrowind playthrough to comment on the Morrowind orcs.

In the Peter Jackson LOTR films, he tried to do something a little fresh and take the orc appearances in a new direction.

I would hope the devs would not directly copy the LOTR orcs, and obviously they will not do that. TES has its own lore and racial motifs.

That said, I would love to see the Skyrim orcs updated to be a little bit more gritty and "badass" as jack254 puts it. They can still be just as intelligent, contributing members of Tamriel society as they were in past TES games, but their physical appearance in Oblivion was IMO the stereotypical cuddly piggish green-skinned D&D orc that has already become outdated in 2011.

EDIT: I have never played WOW and in fact, I can't think of any non-TES RPG I've ever played that had orc characters, so forgive me if there was some wave of LOTR-copycat orcs that tainted the RPG community and turned everyone off to gritty updates for their orcs.
