Let's talk Orcs

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:37 pm

I thought they svcked in Oblivion. I don't mean to be negative, I am just being honest. I didn't feel like playing as one at all. I hope they are grizzlier, harder, and more savage in Skyrim. I thought they were pretty cool in Morrowind, but because of the lack of graphics capability, it is hard to compare them to Oblivion's. I think Oblivion failed at pretty much every non human race, and also the Nords - but damn is it fun dungeon crawling in Oblivion.

I completely agree. The orcs should look somewhat like the ones from "The Lord of The Rings" movies.

They just looked a little too clean for being an orc in Oblivion... :shakehead:

Who said anything about uncontrollable beasts? I just mean they should seem more beastlike, and grizzlier, not just dainty Bretons with a lovely green hue and some well polished teeth.

I agree. They need to look and feel more brutish and savage. They should be taller than the typical race and more muscular.

They're already roughly the size of a nord, and more durable.

I do hope they better balance the races in Skyrim. I love Argonians, but they pale in comparison to Bretons, Dunmer, Nords, and other actually good races from Oblivion. And yes, I agree that Orcs were underdone in Oblivion. They don't need to be savages or anything, but some scarier faces would be nice.

The Orcs could be done a little better in Skyrim, but I think the were fine in Oblivion. Remember Tamriellic Orcs are elves, not brutish beasts. However, they were still a little too civilised in Oblivion.

I think part of it is going to come through how the orcs look, but about 70% in the appeal of playing as a orc is going to come through interactions with the orcs in the game. They need to be so barbarous that Nords seem like High Elves in comparison.

They're elves that were cursed to be swallowed by a giant demon and what the behemoth crapped out was "orcs".
What's the point of having orcs if they aren't orcish ? Who wants a fourth elf race??
Make our orcs more orcish in my opinion. Bigger mouths. More teeth. Hairer. Eviler eyes. Scars. Long gorilla arms. 3 fingers 1 thumb, per hand... hmm... maybe 1 finger 2 thumbs per hand...yeah...that's goooood.

EDIT: Also it would be sweet lore wise if they sometimes ate their young.

Orcs in TES are not all mindless savages. This is not Tolkien.

eat their young?! That's going a little far, IMO.

I would like them to come off a little more brutish, yeah, but not gorilla-like.

Don't Orcs call themselves the pig folk. I think they should be more like pigs, they way Kajits are like cats and Argonions are like lizards. Perhaps that's just me though.

I like them how they are, just with better facial design (though not too different, they're not supposed to be LOTR orcs) and more grey-brown than bright green.

No they don't, that's racist imperial propaganda during the ages when they were treated as monsters.

Also, they're orsimer. Orcs is this game's short way of saying orsimer. They're mer, elves, http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1182290_99060209121_O&GGrimgorMain_873x627.jpg, http://www.dqshrine.com/dq/dq2/orc.jpg, http://www.freewebz.com/lord_ofthe_rings/Orcs2.jpg, http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3026/3033809202_86a5ac1280.jpg, or http://www.about-world-of-warcraft.com/images/Orcs.gif. They should look more like http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/races_mw_orc.gif

Orcs a my favorite race in Morrowind. In general, TES orcs have much more honor and dignity than that of the traditional orc. I like Beths take on them, but they could look a little more "orcish." Actually, I think the addition of beards will suit them well.

*gasp*

Orcs with beards!!
It's about time...

No. Boethiah tricked the god Trinimac into entering his mouth so he could speak with his voice. Boethiah ate Trinimac.
And Malacath is the the outcome.
Trinimac's faithful the Orsimer were transformed in what they are now because of that.

this, tamrielic orcs were also known as corrupted elves, so they are not as dumb or aggressive as orcs from lord of the rings. still, orcs from oblivion didnt act like orcs

fixed. Orsimer doesn't mean corrupted elves, it means pariah folk. If anything, it's the dunmer who are closer to the definition of corrupted elves in their name.

Did you read anything I said? The whole pig thing is just imperial propaganda during the times before the orsimer were accepted into the empire, instead of being hunted down as monsters.
