Lets go back to the first day you played Oblivion

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:47 pm

Did you go to a guild, raid a dungeon, go the main quest, join a guild, or wander around wondering what the hell was going on till you figured it all out?

For some of us, the first day was the day Oblivion was released... and can't remember. :P

Me: Wow! So pretty! *swims to ruin* Heeey, where's the Imperial City!? *turns around* Ooooh....Drat. *swims back*

I remember killing that Kvatch guard in the Kvatch Oblivion Gate by accident, then sleeping in the Tiber Septim Hotel where Lachance visted me. I had no idea what he was saying and didn't want to murder this dude he was talking about. However, I went to the place directed, took one glance and said "Nope, not here. Sorry."

Months later, I beat the game and decided to find out where that dude was.

He was right where I left him all those months ago, just not in the ground floorl XD

It took me forever to figure out how to obtain a horse. I had no gold, so couldn't buy one. Then I walked to a horse and realized that I could actually steal one.

I was so stupid in the beginning.

Played on release day.
Spent most of the time just wandering in awe of how great everything looked.

The very first time, I was over at a friend's house during the Superbowl game. I had not played a game in over 20 years, and knew zip.

While everyone else was down watching the game, my friend set me up with the tutorial and showed me how to use the keyboard and mouse controls. He then went down and watched the game while I fumbled around, trying to hit rats with a short sword. It was pretty sad as I flailed and spun, mostly whacking mid air. I finally managed to kill a rat, by pure luck at this point. I stopped exploring and started clicking things in my armor inventory and then everyone heard a shriek of laughter from upstairs, and the inevitable, "Oh my God! I'm naked!!!"...which caused some interesting comments from the gallery below... :hubbahubba: ... :blush2:

A few months later, when I finally had my very own copy of Oblivion, I did a little better getting through the tutorial. Once outside, I managed to bag some crab meat (still flailing, but a bit more accurate). Then, I just wandered around outside of the Imperial City until sunset. It was all so scary, but incredibly beautiful! I eventually spotted Vilveren in the distance and saw some folks warming themselves by a campfire. People! I decided to go over and say hello...

...and died.

Try to get away as far as possible from The Imperial City

I mean, hey, I'm a freaking prison escapee! Someone out there must be looking for me, right?

Right?

Then I accidentally found a guard, and somehow he forgot I'm a prisoner escaping from a prison :/

I was fooled for I don't know how long there

Also tried to talk to the bandits at Vilverin, also got killed. Good times.

As someone above me posted, I was afraid of the IC for the longest time, seeing as how I was an escaped convict and all. I don't think I visited it for the first time until Martin sent me to the AU as part of the main quest. Then I thought that, since no one knew I was an escaped convict, crimes were forgotten after a while. So I ended up with a bounty for attempted pocket picking (or something, this is all a bit fuzzy with time), spent a few weeks out in the wilderness, went back to a city and "Hold it right there Lawbreaker!".

That's right about the time I discovered mods.

The first thing I did was look for mods. It had already been some time since Oblivion was released, and I wanted to look for bugfixes. I have yet to play beyond giving Jauffre the amulet.

I made an Orsimer warrior, stole a horse outside the Imperial City and genuinely believed that now that I had broken the law, I would have to spend the rest of my playtime as an outlaw, hiding in the woods and constantly running from the law.

I'm surprised that so many people thought their characters escaped. That never occurred to me. Baurus lets our characters go. Baurus not only lets our characters go he gives our characters detailed instructions on exactly how get out of the sewer. He then instructs our characters to travel to Chorrol once they get out of the sewer. Our characters are not only freed, they're actually given a mission by Uriel Septim himself to deliver the most important artifact in all of Tamriel to his most trusted confidant. ;)

I had no idea what was going on, and headed for the ruins across the water. A very nice swim. Then I was greeted by some fella with a club who played some very dramatic music, and then all turned dark. Before I knew it I was back at the sewer gate =)

After that I decided those guys at the ruins were bandits and even though it took me a couple of tries, I made those ruins mine. Then I proceeded to investigate the immediate area and do a lot of swimming, which for some reason I thought was really cool.

Seconded. After that, I have no idea what I did. I played on release day, and that's too long ago to remember. :P

I remember facepalming at being killed by the mudcrab, though, because that's the first thing that happened to me in Morrowind too (an even longer time ago...). You'd think I would have learned not to go mess around near mudcrabs first thing by now, but noooo.

Coming from a game with a totally different set of controls, I didn't make it out of the sewers on day one. I got killed by rats and goblins while I was hitting the wrong keys, casting heal spells when I meant to throw fireballs, blocking when I meant to swing my sword etc. Most of the time I was rooted to the spot, attacking the point I wanted to move to, or vice versa.

First thing I did after I crawled out of the sewers was swim across the lake to the Ayleid ruins, Vilverin I think. Then I perished, swiftly murdered by bandits. <_<

The first thing I did was almost get killed by a mudcrab. Then I went to the Imperial City, worrying that the guards were going to arrest me.

I don't recall exactly, since there were a lot of early starts until I got a satisfactory character going, but...

...I think my first attempt survived the first few rats in the tutorial, and was killed by the zombie. I had been playing Morrowind for ages, and I remember it took me a while to "unlearn" hitting the right mouse button to get to the menus.

I can't really remember what I did the 1st time I played Oblivion. The only thing I do remember is playing as a Female Imperial with Pink Hair. Then a couple days later when my one friend came over he's like "What are you doing" and he was right so I restarted and went with a Male Breton.
