Mods are useful and sometimes needed and it's a very good thing that there are fans out there developing them and development studios allowing them.
This makes games better and the survive longer on the market.
If a mod is a cheat, block it. There is no discussion about this. But if a mod is no cheat, use it, if you like,
And there is one really good thing about mods and addons: If you don't like them, don't use them. That's the trick. Win/Win for everybody.
Guides: If the improve the quality of game play and/or the game, they are useful. That's it.
Mods should never be needed. I might use or make some, but only after I have dozens of hours under my belt without them.
True as long as your mod cannot see anything whatsoever about another player. The moment you can examine another player's dps, healing output, his gear, his build, anything at all about him, mods are no longer optional and impose on other players in a very big way.
If they just display data for your own character, no problem. Otherwise, big problem.
If the game provides everything needed, yes, you are right, then they are not needed. I think everybody will agree. Some mods are useful, some mods are just for fun. It's freedom of everybody to decide how to get entertained in a game and to which degree he wants to get a support. And for some mods, especially in MMOs, it's clear, that the increase gaming quality.
Like Skyrim or
Those games would be utter garbage in the long run without any mods.
*pops another bag of popcorn in the microwave*
To each their own i guess. I still play Oblivion and Skyrim on my console and have fun.
I can partly agree. To be more precise:
- In my opinion I like and need a "scrolling combat text" for me personal and the increase of the quality of my (combat) gameplay - and the combat gameplay of my opponents, which leads to better PvP. So showing healing, damage (bot incoming and done), buffs/debuffs (with duration and so on) and whatever needed to increase quality of combat. It's a bad illusion if somebody thinks he can SEE everything in a PvP fight because of animations, this thinking is so absurd and just a result of lack of experience (or just knowing bad pvp).
- I (personally) don't need a "damage meters" showing me what is happening in detail in a group fight in terms of DPS, HPS and so on. Some challening encounters in some MMOs need this information to be more precise and to increase the group play. It's also an indication if there are bad players ore players gimping themselves. This is the main issues BAD players don't like. GOOD players don't have a problem with this at all. Again, I personally don't need this, but I have no problem if a group leader / "raid leader" will use it and I have also no problem to get feedback to improve my playstyle. I'm not so egoistic to think I'm alone in the MMO world, because that's a wrong view of the world if playing a MMO. I'm open for feedback and I'm open if somebody can give my a good advice. I don't want to be a burden for my group, my friends. And I expect that they are thinking in the same direction - or I expect that evry MMO player thinks so, if not, it would be a great idea to skip MMO playing.
I like to modify design/optic, if allowed (ESO allows it). So, better nameplates and so on are very nice and useful (moving them to other positions, showing more information like % of health and so on).
Get used to mods, they are usual since decades and they are usefull and they increase the gaming experience and quality.
If you don't like them, don't use them. Just think about this in self reference / reflection.
This topic is moved(read head of page) but other topic got no love and sank to the bottom, lol.
No, it's just because there are numerous threads from the mod haters, which is exhausting.
They are in, they are good. There is no problem, seriously. Just read my text above.
