I miss when I lived on campus. 11MB/second actual download speed. Now, having the fastest residential internet available in this town, it's more like 400kB.

I am shocked by the lack of understanding of terms here...

There is a HUGE difference between MBps and Mbps. Yes, the capitalization of that single letter changed EVERYTHING.

As you should know, MB stands for MegaBYTE. Therefore, MBps would be MegaBYTEs Per Second. Mb on the other hand is MegaBIT, which is what all your connections are that you are reading.

As an example, your router should be working at speeds of around 100Mbps, which when you do the math, it turns out to be only about a speed of ~11MBps

Nice I was starting to feel like the genius blonde. Your answer encompasses MORE than my actual knowlege.... But I will do a Broadband reports.com speed test since I am supposed to have 10MB down... hang one and lets see....WOW not sogreat 17142 kpbs DOWN even worse up 938 kpbs!!! I'm paying for much higher and should be able to have a little app like gamesas forum open with NO activity

It is very rare for a connection to be 10MB/sec (as in megabytes). Most ISP based connection speeds in megabits/sec or kilobits/sec. 17142 kbps is 17.142 mbit/sec so its more than 10Mbit/sec.

10MB/sec or 80Mbit/sec is reserved for top tier Internet sources. Pretty much you are only going to get that in Japan, South Korea, select areas in Southern California, or a place with a lot of bandwidth and connected to a major fiber line (College, Business, etc...)

***
My Connection tops out at ~3.2MBytes/sec, if connected at 30+mbps and downloading from a high bandwidth source (ie Steam). The maximum connection on my ISP (Comcast) is 50mbps (6.25MBytes/sec), but thats not even available in my area.

1.47Mb/s down, 0.32Mb/s up. Not bad for regional Australia, where I'm lucky to even have broadband. Definitely looking forward to the NBN being rolled out. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/08/12/2980752.htm

so, after going back and looking at most peoples results, I am 99.99% Positive that I win the thread for worst internet ever! :)

Still better than dial-up.
