Lets play a drinking game...

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 9:42 pm

I'd be bladdered in about 5 minutes.

But seriously, CTD's. CTD's everywhere. They come in all wonderful shapes and sizes. Sometimes I CTD when finishing a trade, sometimes when entering a new cell. Sometimes I get no actual error message, and the game mysteriously vanishes and im back at my desktop. If I blink I could miss it and wonder what happened. Other times I CTD and get a whiteish screen, any further attempts to start the game result in a message about the gamebyro engine not being able to render something, and I have to restart.

Id post my dxdiag, but I dont think theres much point, there are plenty of people who have posted that already. I have tried the nvidia .dll fix, latest drivers, disabling steam cloud save, disabling steam ingame panel, running in windowed mode, standing on one leg, and sacrificing goats upon an altar of my own blood.

Anyone else in the same position as me? Shall we start a support group?

I only get one CTD, walking across Hoover Dam. Every time, doesn't matter if I do a clean save, new character, whatever... same spot, almost to the footstep. So I'm waiting for them to investigate so I can actually finish playing this game I paid for and put 100 hours into

This drinking game wouldn't be fun for me, cause I'd never get even a sip. Now, a drink everytime I see a scorpion stuck in the ground...

I rolled back to the 185.85 drivers with the DLL trick have not had a CTD in quite some time.

Crosses fingers. ;)

Prior to this, I would have been drunk in 45 minutes in New Vegas, start crash einse and repeat.

Its alright, you guys can just delegate some of my turns. Ive literally lost count how many times ive CTD anyway.

I heard rumors of an ancient legend suggesting that the the chosen one, a registry file concerning virtual paged pool memory, would appear and heal our CTD stricken games.

Anyone know anything about this?

I'm getting less now but I'm crashing or dumping to a white screen a lot. Unfortunately for me this game has so many thing happening all over the place that all I can do is say "Please fix my crashes s'a" If you walk around the wastes in this game there is a lot more than the map markers.

There is an insane amount of stuff in this game but I'm cranky because they have FUNDAMENTAL, SHOW STOPPING bugs that they could have found quite easily if they had have had a test bench with ANY nVidia card.

I would quite happily replace their main tester that authourised all their TCSs as long as the main tester wasn't crippled.

no CTD's that weren't self inflicted  . Not a single one in the last week though.

When you say self inflicted?

Ive tried the usual things, but had no luck really. Peformance hasnt been an issue, it just always seems to have a x/10 chance of crashing whenever I do a particular actioin (trade with vendor, load new cell, etc).

To the OP: I'd be completely drunk if I followed your advice :D But, if you haven't tried it already, try running the game in a window and with no AA. That's what did the trick for me and today I played for 3 hours straight with no crashing. Who knows, maybe it'll work for you too.

3 hours, good heavens. Thats about 20 restarts for me at least.

Ive been running it windowed, but I will disable AA (think its set to 2x at the moment). Shame really, because I dont care about graphics, but a little bit of AA to make everything not look like it was cut out from paper by a child with ADHD.

Yeah, I don't like the fact I can't use AA, but the game is really good in non-technical aspects :D

Uh, and I'd recommend NOT using the radio, my experience is that radio is also crash-inducing.

Some more info: these 3 hours of crash-free gameplay I ran the game with no AA, with HDR and AF on, with all water options turned OFF because I read about it on the technical support pages.

Lowering screen resolution and running the game full-screen does not work in my case; it has to run in the windowed mode. Bugger.
