What say you?
In general, I don't mind quests being added to my journal because I overheard something (as in Skyrim, or many situations in FO4). I certainly don't have that completionist/"gotta clear out my quest log!" impulse.
But yeah, the constant stream of stuff from Preston does get a tad annoying.
Ditto. Sometimes I feel bad staying clear of Preston. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, and I'd love to get his perk, but...
They just need to add a dialog option to Preston for the quests, rather than having him just giving them to you if the two of you so much as go near each other.
Heck, even BoS and RR characters won't give you another of the never-ending quests if you don't ask for one!
Preston is the NIghtmother of the Commonwealth.
I don't want things added to my journal and/or map because I ran by a conversation in progress and heard two words of what was being said. Preston, settlers, and the associated radio station need nuking as well. This sort of thing is way out of hand in FO4.
I don't find it any worse than any other game I play. I just ignore it. Just not important to me and, sometimes some cool stuff comes from those random quests.
I can't see a world where everybody and everything is silent unless I indicate that I want to listen to them. I overhear stuff in real life all the time. Don't see why Fallout should be any different.
JMHO.
Player agency. There's less and less of it with each title Bethesda releases yet it remains Mr. Howard's mantra. If I have to keep scrolling through my unwanted quests or if something is added to my map I can't really ignore it, can I?
MILA...does it end? Tinker Tom keeps pushing them onto me everytime I turn in the previous quest...no option to say no..
They can only be placed at a certain number of locations, so it eventually ends. Thank goodness. I was about to rip Tinker Tom's head off.
But anyway, if it were actual quests like say a conversation between NPCs that hint at the Railroad that lead to the Road to Freedom quest then I have no issue with it. If it actually leads to that sort of discovery of something worthwhile, sure.
But when its the radiant crap that is getting shoved down my throat, it needs to stop and the player should have the option to say no. That's already the case with the Brotherhood of Steel radiant quests with Haylen and Rhys where you can do them and not do them at any time. I really don't know why that doesn't happen with the Minutemen. Both with Preston and whoever thought Radio Freedom was a good idea.
Ah, well I guess in my defense I didn't do too much of the RR quests... I just based my statement on what I had experienced.
EDIT: Looked it up, and there are only 11 MILA quests. The locations just are given to you in a random order. So that's good to know.
Meh. Not really important to me. I always end up with too many quests anyhow. I'm used to scrolling.
ok good...I've been ignoring the one I'm on recently currently cuz I didn't know...
Because it's repetitive as [censored]. Also because it's annoying to be asked for the uptenth time if I'm with the minutemen, if I was at the exact same spot dozens of times already.
Aww... give 'em a break. It's not like your all that recognizable.
This.
There's a fine line between "fun to have" and "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"
Preston crossed that line long ago. Tinker Tom is bearable because his actually, you know, end. Everyone else has some variation of "You done? I have something else for you right now. You ready to go at it?"
Doesn't work that way. I didn't clear out Jamaica planes for ages. Yet Preston comes up with all kinds of repetitive stuff. Raider here, Ghouls there, kidnapping wherever.
The worst thin about it, as has been mentioned in another thread. Sometimes it's just one ghoul, at the exact same location, creeping out from behind the same set of boxes. Erase and rewind, as they say. Or it's a low level location, not giving you any challenge. Only the nuisance to have to run through the same location to reach the spot where the unchallenging clear flag triggers.
