So... lets talk beast races.

I know I'm among the few, but I prefer the "beast races" to be just normal humanoids (like elves) with *some* special characteristics. This fighting cat and lizard thing is just way too much for me. I've never played any of these as they are just too weird for me. In fact I think they bring down the believability in the game the way they are currently portrayed. No need to flame, I know I'm pretty much alone here... :P

I know for a fact that Todd Howard wants to make each race more unique, so there you go. It's in the GI interview video.

He probably meant the face only.

You can already see that Nords are going to have a more muscular physique.

Morrowind = 3 years, 7 months of development time.
Oblivion = 3 years, 10 months of development time.
Skyrim = 5 years, 8 months of development time.

What about when Beth was doing Fallout 3, I am skeptical that they really were in full development for that long.

That's an example of a design that doesn't look as crazy (in my opinion) as Morrowind's but isn't "human with a new head and spray paint and a tail" like Oblivion's either. I can't say I'm a fan of digitigrade feet but that's a good example of a middle ground.

If the Argonians go back to looking like they did in Morrowind I'll be ecstatic. I'll still play an Argonian no matter what they look like but I'd prefer not to look like a human in a lizard suit.

I agree.... I love the beast races, but in Oblivion they looked like humans wearing an animal mask. It's like a movie with a very cheap budget for special effects.

I want kahjit to look beastly and hunched. But after all, kahjits are mammal so it bothers me less if they look so human. The most important thing is that I want argonians to have ornitischian legs and to not have briasts if they're female.

But I think Bethesda knows the fans prefer the best races to actually look like beasts, so I have high hopes for that. I can't wait. :D

I'd definitely like to see the beast races more beastly. .. but wondering how prevalent Argonians would be in cold climates. Aren't they cold blooded? I believe I remember them calling me a warm blood or something in the other games. Are there other beast races that could be making an appearance?

I thought the way beast races were done in Morrowind was the most successful. Actually I remember the animations for the khajiit and argonians seemed more realistic than the humans and elves, and therefore I ended up playing as those races more often.

I think this is the first time I've been on the forums since all the Oblivion hype. Therefore; I'd like to thank Bethesda for not announcing this game until recently so I can't waste two years getting overly pumped for a game that can never live up to what I expected it to be. Now I can be pleasantly surprised by TESV

They made Fallout 3 (released 2008) between Oblivion and Skyrim. I think Skyrim's development time is about the same as Oblivion's.

At about 2:17
Left side.

Could that be what I think it is? Looks plantigrade to me.
Oh well... I'll still reserve my judgment until I see an actual in-game screenshot of them. I would prefer for them to be digitigrade (Morrowind style), and would be disappointed if they weren't. But I bet I'll still play them, and enjoy the game.

And here's the Argonian!

1. Head tilted a bit forward
2. Looks like beast feet.
3. Hands more beast like.
4. Tail more defined.

I'm with everyone else in hoping they make the beast races more beast-like. If Argonians end up as hideous as they were in Oblivion I guess I just won't play as one again.. :(

I hope the beast races aren't people with lizard/cat faces. That was super super lame.

Ehm. The 'people with lizard/cat faces' have been in the game series since game 1. And I always like Argonians and Khajiits. Even though I always get the feeling I didnt spell Khajiit correctly.

Anyways, I really think the idea of Morrowind's beast races was great. And in that time im sure it looked pretty cool (I thought they were cool when i first seen them in like 2006.) Now using Skyrim's engine and modern graphics, it could look really awesome. And face-paint has been confirmed, so Argonians with 'face paint', which I imagine if done right will just look like an awesome pattern on your Argonian's scales/skin.

No, they still had a lot of people working on Skyrim right after Oblivion. They just moved more over once FO3 was done.

Khajiit in Skyrim should look like this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5150735
That body structure would work for a Cathay-Raht (just need to change the tiger look into a jaguar look), who are the largest and strongest of the bi-pedal sub-species of the khajiit. However, they'd probably be landed in the same area as nords, orcs, and redguards, further limiting the only 2 sneaky races as is (Suthay/Suthay-Raht khajiit and bosmer).

Now that's an awesome looking argonian!

They started working on Skyrim right after Oblivion. When Fallout 3 was finished, they moved the rest of the team to work on Skyrim.

Fallout 3 was released october 28, 2008 so between then and 11.11.11 it will be 3 years and two weeks.
