Lets talk tattoo's in F4

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 10:33 am

So I was just wondering, with the warpaint option in Skyrim, will Tattoo's be present i Fallout 4? It about time

in my opinion. And yes before anyone asks, there where tattoo's both in the navy and many other places in the 1960(fallout is based on a split timeline from he 50-60's US for those noobs that didnt know) Im European by the way, if I know, you all should know

So how would/ should tattooing work in F4? should you pick a set of tattoo designs right att the get go, in the body option in the character creation meny?. Or should there be vendors / tattooist's that all have unique design all spread across the Massachusetts wasteland, and you have to find one that suits your needs in the art of tattoo designs apartment ? Let's discuss

Tattoos are one of the oldest forms of artistic impression, not just dating back to the 50s. It's also a very likely thing to (re)develop in a wasteland setting with a lot of mixed cultures, so I don't see why there wouldn't be tattoos, lore-wise. Whether they're in the game is an entirely different matter.

Man I would love for tats in Fallout 4! Maybe we could find an artist somewhere in the world who will ink you up. I would like to see tribalish facial tats or at least some kind of war paint for after we leave 111. This would require a system for changing these surface options after we are done editing our characters' appearances (what would the neighbors think if they were living next to a grungy savage looking person in the pre war section?), so I'm not really sure how they would do it unless there were barbers, tat artists, or maybe a mirror where you could change your hair, war paint, etc., somewhere in the world.

I'd like to see tattooists in game and a limited choice of tats for character build, from an historic point of view tattoos have been common in the military since the 1700s

I know man  , but many of those cultures and their artform didn't find their way to the west before the 18-1900's. Oh yes there was of course some exceptions. But I just used the 50's since that is the time of the split in timeline in the Fallout universe :)I really do hope they include tattoo's in the game though, I would not flip out if they turn out to be a no show, but still would be nice :D And yes, tattoo tool's would be an easy making in the wasteland, I have seen prison tattoo equipment made from junk and less than scraps :P so in a Fallout setting they would be easy to make :) or maybe even go old schol with real needle sticks tattooing by hand

Changing the face was possible in Skyrim via the Thieves Guild(after patch/dlc?) so I would think several tattoo artists in the world would be entirely possible to pull off :)

I still like the idea of finding unique tattoo artists spead across the wasteland with all different tattoo styles and images. One more thing making it worthwhile to explore everything :)

This is a type of mod that is probably going to be possible on consoles. So, even if tats aren't in the vanilla game they may come to both PC and console via mods.

Its a great idea dude.
How would they be implemented, though?
The fallout series stems off from our timeline somewhere around the 1950's to the point where - in 2067 - social style, status and form is basically just a futuristic John F kennedy era. Assuming this, back then tattoos were alot less accepted; fair enough military tattoos, ID numbers, cult followings and the like would still use them to some degree but you'd not see someone strutting around with 2 full sleeves and eyebrow tattoos.
So for cannon, id prefer that tattoos werent in character customisation at the start.

But that you could either pay to get inked or earn them by getting enough reputation with a certian group or character karmic style for identification.
I dont want a badass, war-torn character that looks rugged as hell to begin with. I want an innocent guy that gradually changes as he either becomes a savage murderer or a pre-war savior

I like the idea. Maybe some basic tattoo's to start, and access to others as you discover different wasteland settlements.

I was thinking that your character has some form of ID imprinted on him to begin with so that he can be identified by a faction, be it tech based or simply a tattoo, wouldnt be unusual.
Otherwise im curious how say, the brotherhood could believe a man in a blue suit saying "im 230 years old and pre war military" without some proof that he surely wouldn't have brought with him by hand in the chaos of the war.

Theres the whole "immersion" which bethesdas pushing - wanting you to feel attatched to your character. That you lost something prior to the wasteland and that you'll change when you enter it..
Be it cybernetics, dirt, tattoos, scars.. Your character wont look all nice and pretty after 400 hours

Huh? When have looks been a cannon concern? Plus the PC per the leaked docs and some clues from demo have the PC being a veteran, ergo by your def the PC could have tats.

Yeah I think tats would be great for character customization. I want a "KILROY WAS HERE" tat.

...Actually I can believe a player would select that as an option...

And you're forgetting you were (as is believed) on ice, so you'd be perfectly preserved.

Would be a big fan of tats in game. Especially if your access to certain designs was limited to your faction standing.

Fair enough one or two and not in places for your face or completely covering your arms and body at the start of the game.

For cannon, erm. Example; a pre-war (baring in mind the futuristic 50's setting, so the prejudices are still there that nowdays arent) military veteran wouldnt have a full-face tribal tattoo and "svck here" with a massive arrow down his chest.

You want to EARN a badass look, not just have it there in one go.
If all that changes as i get through the 400 hours of fallout 4 is the loot gets better i'll be a little dissapointed..

"After 400 hours" asin the length it takes to play the game, bethesda claim. Not the 200 years your characters frozen.
Yes, you're perfectly preserved. Thats the point. A completely normal person with a military career thrown into a hellish wasteland.
Once youve done everything you can in fallout 4, he shouldn't still have the 100% prestine skin he did when he woke up and, if the player chooses, he should have tattoos or other accessories that mark ventures

I definitely hope that they have something like tatoos/warpaint in the base game. Maybe from a wasteland vendor, or something, so it makes more sense with the story.

Tattoos make sense. Raiders/tribals/sand people really ought to have some tattoos this time around.

Ideally, we'd be able to pick out some 50's-ish tattoos that fit the idea of being a military vet at character creation, and other tattoo options open up post- nuclear apocalypse.

If given the choice, sure, fair point.

If not....Meh.

However when it comes to Tattoos, I choose whether not I get those.

And maybe I wash my face in the rivers.

If you got shot in the face with a fatman and lived, even with power armour on?
Im pretty sure washing your face with irradiated water wouldn't help

Again, its harsher realism.
They've done it with zombie survivals - you can spend 2 years on one guy on dayZ (you wont) and if you die.. Well, tough. They've started to make western RP's similar, look at witcher. Its specifically designed an economy to make the player never too well off.
If you want that baby face to stay the same, keep off the rads and from taking too much inflicting damage on your body

i cant imagine that there wont be tatoos given Skyrim introduced body paint

dont see beth just getting rid of that little level of customization

adds a lot, doesnt take a lot to put in, so i cant imagine it wont show up in the body tab

Well, face paint could very well be a possibility.. There is one shot of an armored female, in the middle montage of the e3 footage, that appears to have some sort of paint across her eyes. It's at around the 14:15 mark here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5esyZPt5Jo

We have yet to see anything that resembles a tattoo but it would be pretty cool. The thing is, there probably won't be many places to put a tattoo. The "underwear/under layer" skin will most likely be a full t-shirt and boxer short combo leaving nothing but forearms, calves and face to put a tattoo on.
