A letter to the creators of Fallout 4

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:18 pm

Dear people responsible for making Fallout 3 and 4.

First of all, I would just like to say, I am a huge fan of both the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series and have been playing them for years.
I appreciate the hard work and passion that you as a team put into making these games. From what I have experienced playing these games, I can really feel how you guys have put your heart and soul into it.
As a huge fan of Bethesda's games, you can imagine how excited I was when you announced the new Fallout 4. I could barely hold back my tears of joy when I watched the trailer for the first time at midnight when it released over here in Australia.
As the game was announced, of course inevitably everyone had an opinion to offer and put in their two cents, youtubers were at it making videos and constructing theories from what little evidence they and everyone else had.
I think that what sets Fallout 3 apart from other games, is the in-depth story, lore, characters and world. Every nook and cranny has it's own story to tell and I just loved finding out more and more about this peculiar wasteland that you had created, I was completely immersed.
Recently, people have been complaining about the graphics and that they thought the trailer did not showcase anything that was much of "an improvement from Fallout 3". A Fallout game does not need incredibly detailed graphics in order to fulfill it's purpose, to be an entertaining and immersive video game. You guys already know this, and I don't want to come across as anything negative, but I really think people who spread stuff like this and media overall just need to be ignored, you guys know what to do, you're the artists, not them. Games that boast extremely detailed graphics and fancy particle effects before release nearly always end up dissapointing because they get lost in the details and never end up coming out as a whole, rounded game and experience, but instead feel wrong overall. It's almost as if they are trying to sell us on the engine the game was made on, and not the game itself.
For an open-world game in today's generation and the amount of detail a Fallout game would have, from what I've seen in the uncompressed trailer, looks amazing, and as long as you guys stick to what made Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion and Skyrim such awesome experiences, you won't go wrong as long as you stick to what's in your hearts, and what has been in it for years.
I know you guys wouldn't do such a thing, and it could even come across as disrespectful that I even barely consider that you could do this, but please do not let the corruption and greed of modern society influence this game series in any way possible. I am confident that Bethesda is the hero that modern gaming needs, show video game companies like Ubisoft and EA what gaming really means, set yourself even more apart from these corporations by proving that there is still hope in the gaming world and that Bethesda is the one that stays strong, resists the demands of those who do not know any better, and makes a game that will be talked about for years after it's release, yet again.
Thank-you for taking the time to read this.

Timed exclusive DLC, Paid Mods, Mediocre ports, yeah they're the real heroes of gaming.

I like Bethesdas games, but it's just straight up stupid to believe that they're above the [censored] of the industry, because they have proven that they're not.

Though they could have done a better job at addressing the whole downgrade thing, just sayin'. They addressed it eventually though, I guess that's what counts, and it was all over the internet so people can only blame themselves if they didn't know about it, but still.

But hey, no dev is perfect.

Bethesda can easily be greedy with FO4 because they know the hype to this game is HUGE. But if Bethesda actually delivers and is totally not an censored (EA) and listens to the consumers I don't think people undertsand how much it would mean to all of us, the whole worlds opinion on the greed of gaming might be changed overnight.

the whole worlds eyes are upon you Bethesda.

To bad they lure the online players by giving free online DLC (love it) but makes you grind for anything online..or you can buy money...

Yeah no.. Bethesda started losing me with their last two games. They can easily win me back with Fallout 4 though. Currently the only dev I have any trust left in is Kojima.

Edit: I'm on the fence with CDPR. I think they handled a lot of things very, very wrong.

To add to this; Allowing pre-orders 'at all' when we know absolutely nothing concrete about the game apart from that it is set in Boston and that some iconic crap is thrown into the trailer.

We don't even have a list of features or even one line about the plot. And they've already put the game up on pre-order so that those caught up in the hype will toss money at them.

As to the OP, http://public.dm1.livefilestore.com/y2pxjK_fv86Y0UdHQRsndG73UwbQNhchoFrSNcCfX--Yyl55VPQPd8NwA_wLflljdIPw7Ih8q12IJNaGvqGHycrXg/yahtzee%20flowchart.png?psid=1&rdrts=46372343.

I love me some yahtzee! And also, this entire topic is just hilarious. Bethesda shouldn't really be praised for Fallout 3, considering other companies also wanted to get their claws around the Fallout series before Beth won the "I got the most money evar" game. I know a lot of people want to say "If it wasn't for Bethesda, there wouldn't be a Fallout 3", but I seriously doubt that.

In the making of Fallout 3 video, Todd Howard said that they wanted to make a Fallout game for a long time and that the original creators had no plans for a new Fallout after Fallout 2. Todd explained that Bethesda asked the original creators a number of times to allow them to work on it before they finally said yes and sold Bethesda the rights to it. Although I'm sure there is probably way more to it than that.

There were a lot of companies out to buy the rights to Fallout. Bethesda won because they had more money to offer.

I guess it couldn't have happened any other way. Bethesda did a great job despite the obvious flaws.

Meh, grass is always greener on the other side of the fence and all that. I can think of worse things then Bethesda getting their hands on FO.

It could have happened many other ways, seriously. Did they? I'd say they did a good job at taking a crack at it, but I wouldn't say great. Maybe they'll learn after Fallout 3's goof's and make Fallout 4 a great game.

Download the uncompressed trailer there is no need to be defending or attacking the graphics.

As long as Fallout 4 doesn't have micro-transactions and Day One DLC. Pre-orders before gameplay trailers and release dates is unfortunately the standard practice in gaming these days. It makes me sad Bethesda's following the trend, but as long as Fallout 4 is like the previous RPGs they've developped, I'll be happy.

Dude, when you started the talks about heroes of gamming and all that [censored] i just completly ignored your post...

Truly if anyone thinks ANY company or person are heroes of something, even if not literaly, its asking to be stabed in their butts for being so silly and naive for think that they won`t do anything to stay in buisness.

NEVER say something like that, always doubt your ''heroes'' they may suprise you in the worst way possible SPECIALY comapnies.

No offense intended, its just my point of view.

And maybe i start farting rainbows with a pot of gold at the end of each one

Once again, borrowing from an old and wise board veteran: we consumers are not the customers, we are the resource: The product is profit, and the customers are those who gain that profit

Yeah i really like bethesda too, their attitude toward mods is pretty fantastic and i wish more devs though like them. I think they really want to make a fun product, and i really enjoy playing what they produce. Granted f4 could be horrible (i doubt it) and i'd swear off of bethesda games unless es6 looked amazing.

Also i looked at some of the screen shots of the trailer, it looks pretty damn good, hopefully i can play it on high-ultra with atleast 30fps. the only thing i thought looked bad was the vault suit, but it might have been a stylistic choice to make it look like spandex instead of denim
