So true. All I have to say. So true, and I cannot find a Smiley to express my opinion. Which is weird, since I litter my sentences in smileys.

This, my friend, will soon be adapted into my bible.
I wasn't trying to be a smart [censored], but really, it will.
And to be honest, people tell me "Fill out the story, descriptions, and you'll have something"
*Sigh*
End on a positive, who are the up-and-comers?

Sorry to be a downer, but in my eyes. There doesn't seem to be any new "up-and-comers". It just seems to be the same stuff from everyone still. You can't become great or start becoming great over night, first you need practice. And I really wish that Strangelove would post a Rp on here again, and show you what a Rp can be?

I am still new to all this but i find this to be extremely informative. I do find myself referring more and more the the "So you think you can RP" thread.

Now iI do not claim to be a great writer, but I do enjoy it and find that am happy with what I write and post. I have had to kick myself a couple of times for posting without proofreading and then go back and edit. I try to make every post something I want other people to read and I do truly like the work I produce.

This is where my only real major concern comes into play. I don't know if anyone else likes it. I write for enjoyment, and although I do hope to possibly have a career in it. I find myself getting nervous at the thought os others reading it. I'm just not sure if people are liking it or if they are laughing there asses off at me.

Now I don't really know if this is the type of place where people wouuld give you an honest opinion without being insulting. I am a newcomer to the Fanfic section of the forums and am only participating in my first ever role-play.

I guess what i'm most worried about is not thinking that my writing is bad, but that no one out there thinks it's good.

To be Honest, I just think its a bad time for RPs, everyone and there brother has one out.
I think I'll stick to straight up FFs, they tend to be way better, for me at least.

Steam makes yet another amazing point, but i was a little dismayed at Mad Max's reply, I don't mean to be presumptuous, but im trying to be at least what most would consider a "good RPer" i recently even started an RP sign up topic entitled "http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1040385" here and have been disappointed when people have shown little interest in it, save for Nazguljcg, i spent quite a bit of time fleshing out the idea and thinking of different plot devices i could incorporate into the storyline, i don't know if its because of the multitude of other RP's or for some other reason but i was hoping that it would be a decent RP, though i really wish i could see Strangelove's work first hand, i know all RPG's have their up's and down's but it svcks to come in here while in its slump lol

Honestly Inferno, I love all of your character, bt I just haven't found the time to read all of the backstory and information on your RP. It was detail overload!

@ShadowStrike: You are right about Rps, it's just not a good time for them, but then again if everyone lays off making Rps. Then the forum will be flooded with FFs, which in most cases become terrible as the writer doesn't take the time and just spouts them out like a terrible Rp.

@Nazguljcg: The important thing to think, is that you write it for the people. Not just for yourself. And as long as you keep pumping out what you love to do, it shouldn't matter who's liking it or laughing their asses off. It's those who enjoy it that will most likely post criticism and continue to enjoy it. It is those who just look at it, that you shouldn't care about. Which brings me to a problem I want to bring up.

Since people do post FFs, those who read them, it would be nice to just say "Good job" or "Nice work, keep on this." Something like that, and then the writer won't get down and stop. As this being the internet, and the writer not knowing what you are thinking, it is sorta hard for them to tell if you are enjoying it or not. So just leave something so they know their work is appreciated, even if you don't like it. Just say why?

Very right, I don't want comments for my ego, but more for reason, if people like this, who am I to say no.

I see what you guys are saying. I joined just when the veterans were starting to retire. At least I was able to see some of their work before they packed it up.

But I got to say, ever since they left, I've been trying to earn the title of "veteran" myself. Though something tells me I still have a ways to go.

I have to say that I agree with everything Stream said and with the stuff he posted from Ambrose. I know I only joined the forums just over a week ago but the one place I really gravitated towards was the Fan Fic forum.

Now I know I'm not the best writer in the world but the first thing I read was 'So you think you can RP?' with the intention of maybe getting involved with an Rp somewhere down the line, but with the amount of RP's I've seen spring up while I've been here that have not been thought out etc I began to wonder why I came in here. This was before I stumbled upon The Comedian's Addiction Fan Fic. Now I'm not the biggest fan of Fan Fic but this really caught my attention as it was well written.

What I'm trying to say is that a lot of the RP's and Fan Fic's posted in here seem to be the writer having an idea and going "I like that, I think I'll post it now" without sitting down and thinking about it, and also not bothering to sketch out a plot line or end point of the RP before hand and this is what seems to be pulling down the forum.

The majority of people in this section don't give that in-depth reviews, but settle for simple "Nice Jobs," or "Keep up the good work!"

Now, admittedly, this is something I have done more than once in the past, but being a TESer, (What? I can make up words.) I subscribe to the belief that comments should always have criticism in them as well. That said, I don't review here without cause, usually in the form of a message, and I only review in TES when none of the better critics have posted. Not that TES is much better in this respect either, honestly, but there are a few people that do in-depth reviews, and I feel that makes up for it. So in a sense, this forum is also very similar to FF in that regard. In all the stories I've posted there, with the exception of one person, I've never had a critical review. Well... I have, but it was more of a bashing and flaming than anything else. Consider yourselves lucky the mods are so strict here with things like that, or I would never, ever visit.

I'm afraid I've never RPed with you, and all I've done recently with this section is glance over a few RPs quickly. Not enough to remember names. Sumimasen. I'll look out for you in the future.

lol, Thanks Steam, that's a HUGE relief, i kept dreading that i was just adding onto the clutter that was piling up here, and its a major breath of fresh air to know that my RP might just be too detailed haha, kinda surreal

On a sadder note: MAD MAX always seems to "overlook" my posts :(

This is a perfect example of what I meant. Wasteland Scholar, you've worked hard at doing what you can, and yet you feel you still have a ways to go. That is a perfect train of thought to go with. Becoming what the "veterans" were, didn't happen over night. No one can be the next up and comer without A LOT of practice. I don't think Dr. Strangelove became what he was over night, no one can do that.

So Inferoo, my statement of seeing no up-and-comers still stands. You, I can see working hard to become a good Rper. But don't expect to become great in the next week. I highly doubt anyone could become a good Rper in a week unless they were on here 24/7 and lived a life of solitude?

Oh i know Mad, Its just you kind of made it out to be that the newcomers were akin to kindergartners, I know im not some godly RPer who can whip plot's out of his ass but I assumed i was at least "tolerable" lol, and in an act of hubris i may go so far as to even say im "decent" yes i said it! ill say it again to! DECENT. MWUHAHAHAHA!

Fan Fics, Rps, they should both be for you and everyone. It would be selfish to just post a Fan Fic for yourself. Each time you write something in the Fallout Universe that you would want to submit, it shouldn't just be for you. If it was, then why even bother letting others see it. If I started on a Fan Fic right now, I wouldn't just write it for myself, but for you, and everyone else to enjoy it as much as me.

EDIT: Sorry for double post. Just thought I'd get it out of the way :P

No, not at all. In fact, Strangelove was just barely above the level of some of the new RPers here when he first joined. No offense to him, of course. As a matter of fact, I do believe you and Strangelove both participated in the first RP on this board, didn't you Max? I'd say both of you were about on the same level then. New, but eager and willing to learn. I myself started with an already sizable amount of experience here, but I was still nowhere near the level of a writer I am now. One glance at my earliest posts should show that. Although, I think my character sheets might have actually gotten worse with age. They seem to be getting smaller and shorter as the quality of my writing in general gets better. I'm not quite sure what to make of that, actually.

*Gives a Clint Eastwood stare, pulling cigarette out of mouth.*

I don't even remember? But when I did join here, I was willing to learn about how the Rp worked etc. and I was always trying to make them better. But (I think for the better) Dr. Strangelove overshadowed me :violin: :P

I understand what you are saying, but when I write for an RP, is that also not for myself? I wouldn't be able to post anything that I wasn't happy with.

Maybe i'm wrong about this, but i feel like an RP is kind of like an interactive "choose your own adventure" book. In this case it's not just a story for me, but for everyone else involved. It is a living, breathing story where the characters speak for themselves.
Everything I write is for myself and no one gets to see it until I am truly happy with it. I write for my own enjoyment and do hope that others enjoy it as well but I don't expect everyone to.

Any thoughts?
