Level cap beter or not?

Do you prefer having a level cap to limit the perks you can receive? Or use the "Legendary" method.

I dont care.

so long as the make getting all the perks stupidly hard without massive exploits like they did in skyrim.... I really don't care.

As long as they don't have Skyrims "You can be the best at everything" rubbish I don't mind. You want to be a sniper and get sniper related perks? Shouldn't have picked 10 charisma then. Re-roll.

I prefer a level cap to none at all. You're not supposed to be a God-like person, and having a level cap where you focus only on certain skills, adds to better replay value, I think.

You can be the best at everything in:

Daggerfall

Morrowind

Oblivion

Skyrim

Fallout 3

Fallout: New Vegas

...

See where I'm going at? Just because you can be the best at everything doesn't mean you have to... It's usually just an optional thing you can do in Bethesda's games so who cares if you can or cannot? As long as it has a good perk and level system, tis fine with me. (I enjoy Skyrim's the most myself).

When all your stats are completely maxed out, the gameplay becomes trivial. Soon even the strongest enemies are little more than an annoyance, like the dragons in Skyrim.

I don 't want the gameplay to become boring and trivial because my character is too powerful. At that point, the game becomes more of a chore than a challenge.

That's why I would like a level cap.

I'm actually quite split on the idea. We don't really have a frame of reference to work with here. This new leveling system is an unknown. If we go by the poster from the reveal trailer, there'll be 70 perks. We should assume that we're going to get a new perk every level, because given the apparent lack of skill points, leveling up would be rather boring and unsatisfying otherwise. We don't know what the level cap is going to be (I would be happy with 35), so only the folks at Bethesda know what's going on with that. I'm personally inclined to believe that we're going to get extra SPECIAL points every 4 or 5 levels, since the Vault-Tec salesman footage showed us that we'll be starting with 28 points instead of the 35 that we've gotten in previous games. Honestly, it's far too early to know how this is all going to work out, even though the speculation can be fun. I think level caps are necessary for completely open world games like Fallout. If we get increased health and AP upon leveling up, we would eventually end up with simultaneously overpowered characters and boring leveling.

Eh, the whole maxing-out-everyting/get-all-the-perks thing has never been my scene. Never bothered with any "more perks per level!" mods for FO3 or NV. Heck, I don't have Broken Steel installed currently (not just because of the extra 10 levels and silly perks, also the bullet-sponge monsters).

Making new characters to try a different build/playthrough is fun. Having it all on one character takes that fun away. :)

No Legendary, I don't want a MOAT. I'll take a level cap at 50 and leave it there.

This. Just don't give me the Skyrim system and I'm fine.

I don't know if I've ever hit the level cap in any Bethesda game. I invariably end up role playing every character I play, which means I always end up "gimping" my characters in some way anyway....plus I just don't get how playing a god -like super human is any fun. That said, if being a super human that is good at everything is what you like, it wouldn't bother me one bit if there is no cap.

I hit cap in FO3 pretty easily, but not NV. I think I have one playthrough of NV where I stopped at around level 45 or so. I would be fine if they followed NV's level cap of 30 with the base game and added 5 levels per DLC.

I don't think you will have to worry about that in this game. I just don't think the game will be as stat driven if they are handling skills differently than they did in Fallout 3.

Only hit the Level Cap once in both F3 and NV. I would prefer to have a high one such as New Vegas.

yes and no, a level cap ok, but it svcked in NV depending how you played not being able to do certain things for example, youve read all the books and lockpick is stuck at 90.

stuff like that svcks.

does not matter. If the story line is good and NPC's are interesting. The level cap can be whatever it wants to be.

Personally, I hope it has a soft level cap of about 30, if the leveling system is similar to Fallout 3/New Vegas. But, after level 30, you can still level up, but no new perks or stat points, just 1 AP and 1 HP a level. Even if you go another 20 levels, how much different would those extra 20AP/HP be? Maybe 1 extra VATs attack, or surviving 1 more enemy hit. At the same time, for those like me that hit the level cap well before completing the main story lines in both games, there is still the feeling of advancement and getting better.

I've played quite a bit of Skyrim, and with the Legendary system, it doesn't really change how you play. I tend to play a sword/shield, light armor and bow. After 10 levels, I still play the same basic way. To keep things interesting, I keep resetting Lockpicking, Pickpocket and Speechcraft, so there is some challenge at all levels. It's not like it is a required function.

To prevent maxing out everything, yes. It should definitely have a cap. Kills a lot of RP factors when everything can be maxed.

In Fallout 3 I'm able to max out everything at ~25 roughly. Last time I played New Vegas I maxed out everything at 45.

i personally enjoy a level cap. it helps make each pc feel more distinct if each is limited by the total number of perks they can take. plus it also encourages replaying and trying out different builds. if theres no level cap and i can effectively max everything out, then whats the point in making more than one character?

playing new vegas with the jsawyer mod and the modified logans loophole perk that caps your max level to 21 is so, so good.

I would prefer an soft cap, that is at level cap you now need 5-10x as much xp leveling up, this enables you to fill holes but not redefine you caracter.

Good example you focus on quests and exploring until done with the main quest lines this rank up xp fast and you reach cap, at this time you want to build but you lack crafting perks.

Personally I want to be able to max out everything, or at least get everything stat and perk/skill I want. My main LW has 10 in all SPECIAL and 100 in all skills and close to 50 dmg res without armor, and it was awesome. I want to be a totally broken Wasteland Goddess
